Dodgers SP Mike Bolsinger impressive again in loss on Friday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Bolsinger (3-1) gave up a run in the first and one in the third, but was outdueled by Cardinals starter John Lackey in this one.

"He did a nice job," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said of Bolsinger, per MLB.com. "Didn't look like he had a real good curveball tonight, but he hung in there, kept pitching, mixing. I thought he did a nice job for us."

The 27-year old still holds an impressive 1.15 ERA as he heads into his next start, scheduled for Tuesday in Colorado.

Mattingly: Starters will remain in line for weekend series

The result is that Mike Bolsinger, Carlos Frias and Brett Anderson will be the starters in the weekend series against St. Louis, per the Orange County Register.

"We haven't really talked about the doubleheader yet," manager Don Mattingly said to MLB.com. "We don't plan on moving anyone up [before the doubleheader]. We're going to keep everyone in place. If there are extra days in place, we'll give everyone an extra day."

Bolsinger worked efficiently through his start, needing just 85 pitches. He allowed just one runner to advance as far as third in the game. But Bolsinger worked through it and struck out the next two batters he faced.

"Mike is more of a finesse guy, but he's a guy who can really spin a breaking ball," manager Don Mattingly said to MLB.com. "And, he can do a lot with it. He's able to pitch off of it. He doesn't get into a lot of trouble.

"Guys come in, and have opportunities. He's pitched good three times now."

Bolsinger, now 2-0, lowered his ERA to 1.04 in 17 1/3 innings of work. He will look to keep rolling Saturday against the Padres.

Bolsinger was recalled from Triple-A earlier on Tuesday to make the start for the Dodgers.

The right hander made one other start for the Dodgers this season, again allowing one run in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision.

Dodgers could seek a No. 5 starter as Ryu remains without a timetable

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/24/2015) The Dodgers could be in the market for a No. 5 starter, as South Korean hurler Hyun-Jin Ryu remains without a timetable for return in his recovery from a shoulder impingement, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

Ryu was limited to two spring starts and has not pitched since March 17 due to the issue. The Dodgers have used swing man David Huff for a spot start on April 14 and Mike Bolsinger on Thursday to fill in that role.

Dodger SP Mike Bolsinger will start Thursday vs. Giants

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/22/2015) With the Dodgers in need of a fifth starter for the second time this season, the team will turn to pitcher Mike Bolsinger for Thursday's game at San Francisco, according to the team's reporter.

In 2014, Bolsinger went 1-6 with a 5.50 ERA for the Diamondbacks, but he said there's something different about this promotion, MLB.com reports.

"It's not like the first time you got called up," Bolsinger said. "But in a way, it kind of was because you're playing for the Dodgers. There's only a few teams in Major League Baseball that you can really be blown away with, and Dodgers is one of those. It's an awesome feeling. Very honored."

Bolsinger last pitched Friday for the team's Triple-A team. While in Triple-A, Bolsinger went 2-0 over 11 scoreless innings. He said his offseason work on his slider has paid off in a big way.

"It was a pitch I didn't think was going to be as good as it was," Bolsinger said. "It's just been working out really well. Obviously, throwing that fastball inside to righties and lefties, it just opens up the other side of the plate so much. That's what the slider kind of complements, that inside pitch."

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Wieland has allowed one run in nine innings this spring while striking out nine. Other options include Mike Bolsinger and Carlos Frias, and the team could fill the rotation hole externally, as the Dodgers remain open to acquiring starting pitching depth for the back end of the rotation.

Mike Bolsinger pitching much better in second stint in majors

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/23/2014) Diamondbacks starting pitcher Mike Bolsinger has gone winless in two starts since rejoining the rotation June 17. However, he has a 2.57 ERA with 10 strikeouts and just one walk in 14 innings since rejoining the rotation, which manager Kirk Gibson considers progress despite the absence of wins.

"I just think he's matured a bit," Gibson said, per The Arizona Republic. "He was up here the first time, got a taste, went down and worked on some things. It's all about locating your pitches.

"You can see there's something about him hiding the ball. You're looking up there seeing 88, 89 mph, but the swings tell you that it's something different. He has some deception about him. He has some movement about him. He's pretty good at moving the ball around as well."

Bolsinger said working more with catcher Miguel Montero has been a huge factor in his turnaround from his first stint in the majors earlier this season.

"For me, I just gotta keep staying focus like Miggy's (catcher Miguel Montero) getting on me about," Bolsinger said. "I think that's something that's been helping me. I thank him for that. He's made me a better pitcher."
