Pitcher Michael Roth elects to become free agent

(11/25/2014) After being designated for assignment by the Angels, pitcher Michael Roth chose to become a free agent Tuesday, reports MLB.com.

In 2014, Roth made seven appearances and went 1-0 with a 8.76 ERA.

(8/30/2014) The Angels recalled pitcher Michael Roth from Triple-A Salt Lake Saturday, in order to provide some depth in the bullpen.

Roth appeared in two games earlier in the season, allowing four runs in 6 2/3 innings of work. He is likely to remain with the team through the end of the season, with rosters expanding Monday.

(8/3/2014) The Angels placed reliever Joe Thatcher on the 15-day disabled list Sunday after he suffered a sprained ankle Saturday against the Rays. 

The Angels made a few other changes to their bullpen. They optioned Michael Roth to Triple-A Salt Lake, while recalling Cam Bedrosian and Fernando Salas.

(8/1/2014) Left-hander Michael Roth has been promoted by the Angels from Double-A Arkansas. He pitched two shutout innings for the team in early July.

The 24-year-old Roth boasts a strong 9-6 record and 2.59 ERA with the Travelers this season. He has struck out just 62 in 114 2/3 innings.

Roth, who's spent the season in the minors, struck out two over two perfect innings while the offense erupted for eight runs in the seventh inning to take the lead. Of his 23 pitches, 16 were strikes.

(3/10/2014) The Angels made five cuts Monday, with pitcher Michael Roth optioned to Triple-A and pitchers Justin Thomas, Jarrett Grube, Michael Morin and Mark Sappington being re-assigned to minor-league camp, MLB.com reports.

Roth pitched one scoreless inning this spring, while Thomas threw two scoreless innings. Grube surrendered two earned runs in four innings, and Morin gave up one earned run in two innings. Sappington retired the only batter he faced in his lone appearance.


Michael Roth has minor surgery

(11/8/2013) Angels pitcher Michael Roth underwent a minor procedure to have a cyst removed from left thumb, according to the Los Angeles Times. Roth spent much of the season in Double-A and played in the AFL. He went 6-3 with a 4.20 ERA in 17 appearances (15 starts) at Double-A.

(5/16/2013) The Angels optioned pitcher Michael Roth to the minors Thursday, MLB.com reports. Roth lowered his ERA to 9.00 with two scoreless innings Wednesday night in a game in which the team called upon the bullpen to record 21 outs.

Roth struck out 14 batters in 14 innings with the Angels before being optioned.

(4/25/2013) Angels pitcher Michael Roth made his first major-league start Wednesday against the Rangers, and after three scoreless innings, Roth was unable to make it out of the fourth, finishing the day with five earned runs allowed on six hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Roth had made four relief appearances for the Angels before throwing 75 pitches in this start. His ERA rose to 7.56 in the loss. If the Angels give him another start, it'll likely come on Monday in Oakland against the Athletics.


Michael Roth gets nod for Wednesday

(4/24/2013) Angels manager Mike Scioscia made an unexpected switch on Tuesday night in the matter of who would start Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Jerome Williams had all but assumed he was going to start but Scioscia has decided to go with Michael Roth instead, MLB.com reports.

Roth has been pitching in relief for the Angels since mid-April. He's seen four appearances and has allowed two runs over five innings with seven strikeouts.

Williams will remain in the Angels' bullpen.
