Astros promote two promising prospects to Double-A

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/4/2014) The Astros announced Monday they promoted outfield prospect Teoscar Hernandez and starting pitcher prospect Josh Hader from Class A Lancaster to Double-A Corpus Christi.

Hernandez hit .294 with a .376 on-base percentage, .550 slugging percentage and .925 OPS in 96 games for Lancaster. He also had eight triples, 17 home runs, 33 doubles and 75 RBI.

Hader pitched extremely well in the hitter-friendly California League, going 9-2 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 22 outings (15 starts). He also had 112 strikeouts in 103 1/3 innings.

Astros acquire Josh Hader

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(7/31/2013) The Astros have acquired prospect pitcher Josh Hader from the Orioles as part of the deal sending starting pitcher Bud Norris to Baltimore, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports. Hader, a 19-year-old 19th-round pick from the 2012 draft, owns a 2.65 ERA in 17 starts at high Class A Delmarva.

Josh Hader 'in perfect spot'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/24/2013) Orioles pitcher prospect Josh Hader didn't garner a lot of attention as a 19th-round draft pick in 2012, but his performance on the field is changing his outlook. Hader is 3-2 with a 1.94 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 11 starts for Class A Delmarva.

Hader, who made 17 relief appearances between Rookie League and low Class A in 2012, is 5-2 with a 1.92 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 28 career outings. He is striking out 10.5 batters per nine innings.

His performance certainly could warrant consideration for a promotion in the minors, but the Orioles seem content to let the 19-year-old develop at Delmarva, according to MASNsports.com.

"Right now, Josh Hader is in a perfect spot," Orioles director of player development Brian Graham said. "He's pitching well and making progress. There are so many parts of his development process that are continuing to improve. Right now he's in a very good spot."
