Yankees promote RP Branden Pinder, demote RP Chris Martin

(6/19/2015) Struggling Chris Martin has been dispatched to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre by the Yankees, who have promoted fellow reliever Branden Pinder from the same team.

Martin has allowed seven runs on 12 hits in his last five innings pitched.

"He will help us probably in the later innings,” manager Joe Girardi said of Martin. “If we feel it’s a matchup for a right-hander. As we’ve said all along, our lefties get lefties and righties out, and we’ll use that, but at some point he’ll be in the back end like he was before."

(5/31/2015) The Yankees activated pitcher Chris Martin from the 15-day disabled list on Sunday and optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Martin has been slowed by elbow tendinitis. He opened a rehab assignment with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday and will continue to pitch at that level.

"We want to get him back on a roll, then we’ll go from there," manager Joe Girardi said, per LoHud.com. "At the end (before the injury) it was a little bit of a struggle for him. We’ll see if we can get him back on a roll, and then if we need him, we’ll call him."

Martin has posted a 3.55 ERA and 13:3 K:BB ratio in 12 2/3 innings with the Yankees.

Martin has posted a 3.55 ERA and 13:3 K:BB ratio in 12 2/3 innings. He gave up two hits and a walk Friday but was able to escape the outing without being charged with an earned run.

"After the Tampa series, felt a little fatigue," Martin said. "Tried to battle through it and thought I could get through it, and obviously I wasn't able to."

Pinder has tossed two scoreless innings in a pair of appearances with the Yankees. He owns a 2.63 ERA and 15:3 K:BB ratio in 13 2/3 innings with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

(5/5/2015) The Yankees bullpen has been outstanding all season but showed some weakness Monday as relievers Chris Martin and Dellin Betances allowed three runs on four hits in the eighth inning against the Blue Jays in an eventual loss, reports NJ.com. 

"It's a lot of innings they've had to log," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said after the loss. "We've had a couple long stretches that are not helping."

(4/28/2015) Yankees relief pitcher Chris Martin worked a nearly perfect ninth inning in New York's 4-2 win over the Rays Tuesday. 

Martin allowed a single with two outs to Steven Souza, but forced Asdrubal Cabrera into a ground out to end the game. Martin, who earned his first save of the season, lowered his ERA to 2.70 in 10 innings of work with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

(4/21/2015) Yankees closer Andrew Miller (S, 5) came into a save situation against the Tigers on Tuesday, leading 5-1 with two on and two out, and walked two batters, allowing one run to score, before getting the final out via a strikeout for his fifth save of the season.

"I need to be better than that, but it ended up with a win," Miller said. "I wasn't missing by much, so I'm not worried about it."

Reliever Chris Martin began the ninth inning for the Yankees with the 5-1 advantage, but put two runners on and got pulled for Miller.

The 28-year-old made his debut in 2014, registering a 6.89 ERA, a 1.66 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB ratio over 15 2/3 innings with Colorado. The right-hander has a 4.50 ERA this spring.

(12/18/2013) The Rockies traded infielder Jonathan Herrera to the Red Sox in exchange for reliever Franklin Morales and minor league reliever Christopher Martin, according to MLB.com.

Herrera hit .292 in 81 games for the Rockies in 2013, playing mostly in a utility role.

Morales made 19 relief appearances and one start for the Red Sox, and he recorded a 2-2 record and a 4.62 ERA. Martin went 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA and two saves at Triple-A Pawtucket.
