Angels send RP Mike Morin to Triple-A

(7/29/2015) The Angels are sending reliever Mike Morin down to Triple-A, per the Los Angeles Times, giving the team an open roster position. 

In 29 contests for the Angels, Morin was 1-1 with a 7.43 ERA, including a disastrous outing Tuesday in which he allowed four runs and five hits.

(7/1/2015) The Angels activated reliever Mike Morin off the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. He has been sidelined since late May due to an oblique injury.

Morin spent four games on a rehab assignment between the Rookie League and Triple-A Salt Lake. He went 1-0 with one save and a 9.82 ERA. He had three scoreless outings to begin his rehab assignment before allowing four runs in his final appearance for Salt Lake.

(6/29/2015) Angels pitcher Mike Morin has completed his rehab assignment and rejoined the team, reports MLB.com.

The Angels open a three-game series against the Yankees on Monday and Morin is expected to be activated during the series. Morin has been sidelined since May 23 because of a strained oblique.

"I don't think about it at all," Morin said of the injury, per MLB.com. "It has not crossed my mind one bit. That is nice to know that it's healed up. Now it's about getting people out."

(6/28/2015) A pair of Angels pitchers continued their rehab assignments with Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. 

Right-hander Cory Rasmus, working his way back from abdominal surgery, made the start for the Bees. He went 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five. He was lifted after throwing 31 pitches.

Meanwhile, Mike Morin pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save on Saturday. Morin is recovering from an oblique injury.

Neither pitcher has a clear timetable to be activated from the disabled list at this point.

(6/25/2015) Angels relief pitcher Mike Morin picked up a win in a Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday as a part of his rehab assignment.

Morin struck out two batters in the eighth inning of the game and didn't allow a hit with his team trailing 4-2. Salt Lake scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth and Morin was awarded with the win.

Morin has been on the disabled list with an oblique injury.

He will move on to Salt Lake City on Wednesday and appear in about four rehab games altogether before returning to the Angels.

Morin pitched in 20 games and compiled a 6.00 ERA before going down.

Morin is recovering from an oblique strain that landed him on the disabled list.

"If he is throwing, it's the first stages of the progression, and he's got a ways to go," manager Mike Scioscia said.

Morin was placed on the disabled list in late May due to the injury and will likely be out at least a few more weeks while recovering. He owns a 6.00 ERA and 13:5 K:BB ratio in 15 innings.

Morin left Saturday's game with the injury. To replace him, the Angels called up Cam Bedrosian from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Morin was forced to come out of Saturday's game after facing just one batter against the Red Sox. 

"I've never dealt with anything like this," Morin said. "It's frustrating. It's been frustrating."

Morin has a 6.00 ERA in 15 innings of work this season.

"It varies," Morin said. "It just felt kind of weird. No timetable right now. I'll just hope for the best and do everything I can to get it right."

(5/18/2015) Angels pitcher Mike Morin allowed three runs on one hit in just 2/3 of an inning on Monday in Los Angeles' 10-6 loss to the Blue Jays. Morin walked two hitters and allowed a single to load the bases before getting pulled.

Russell Martin then singled home two runs for Toronto. 

"I can't remember the last time I've thrown eight balls in a row," Morin said to the Orange County Register. "Usually I'm pretty good at throwing strikes. Walking two guys in a row on four pitches is frustrating. It's something mechanical. I'll work it out with (pitching coach Mike Butcher)."

Morin is now 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in 14 innings of work.

(4/23/2015) Angels relievers Fernando Salas, Cesar Ramos, Vinnie Pestano and Mike Morin all had poor outings in Thursday night’s 9-2 loss to the Athletics.

After Jered Weaver went six innings and gave up one run, Salas put runners on first and third to start the seventh. Ramos came in and immediately gave up an RBI single to Stephen Vogt.

Pestano then took over and immediately threw a wild pitch that scored a runner. He then gave up a homer to Billy Butler and later gave up an RBI single to Brett Lawrie.

Salas was credited with the loss. He's now 0-1 this season. 

Morin then allowed three runs in the eighth inning.

(4/19/2015) Angels pitcher Mike Morin lasted just 1/3 of an inning Saturday in Los Angeles' 4-0 loss to the Astros. Morin served up a three-run home run to Robbie Grossman on a 1-0 pitch in the seventh, leading to the Angels' loss.

"We know the dimensions of the ballpark," Morin said. "I didn't execute the pitch -- bottom line."

Morin has posted a 4.91 ERA in 3 2/3 innings this season and may be fighting for a role with his struggles.

"I trust Sosh completely," said Morin. "It has nothing to do with that. I'll be ready day in and day out, whether it's the second inning or the 10th or the seventh. It's not weighing on my mind at all."

(2/23/2015) Angels pitcher Mike Morin is hoping to earn a spot in the team's bullpen, according to Los Angeles Times.

Morin is hoping to claim the seventh inning role that was held by Kevin Jepsen last season. "Once Jeppy got traded to Tampa Bay that was my goal," he said. 

In order to prepare for the job, Morin acknowledged that he needed to improve against left-handers. "I watched a lot of video this winter trying to diagnose what, when and why I struggled against left-handers," Morin said. "A lot of it had to do with the two-seam fastball I was throwing." He's been working on improving his sinker and slider during the offseason, and believes that should help against southpaws. 

The 23-year-old posted a 2.90 ERA over 59 innings last year.

Morin came in for Tyler Skaggs with two outs in the sixth and struck out Torii Hunter for the final out of the frame. The Angels scored two runs in the bottom of the frame, which proved to the difference, giving Morin his third win of the season. He owns a 2.61 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP over 38 innings of work this season.
