Adrian Nieto the only standout Sunday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5/19/2014) White Sox catcher Adrian Nieto was the team's only offensive standout Sunday against the Astros.

Nieto collected a hit in all three of his at-bats. He drove in a run on a single in the third. He later drove in another run on a run-scoring double in the seventh. He drove in the only runs the club scored against Houston. Nieto finished 3 for 3, with zero runs and two RBI.

The right-handed batters have been included to combat Royals southpaw starter Bruce Chen.

Adrian Nieto earns opening-day roster spot

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/24/2014) White Sox catcher Adrian Nieto has won a spot on the team's initial 25-man roster, MLBDailyDish.com reports.

Nieto has hit .250/.318/.350 with two doubles, five RBI and two walks in 20 at-bats this spring. He was competing with Josh Phegley and Hector Gimenez for backup duties after Tyler Flowers was named the team's starting catcher.

Tyler Flowers wins starting catcher job

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/17/2014) White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Sunday that Tyler Flowers will be his starting catcher this season "unless something drastically changes," MLB.com reports.

"I'm glad they recognize I'm healthy and I've been working hard to get to this point," Flowers said Monday. "It was kind of questionable in my mind for a little bit during the offseason, 'Can I be ready for the season?' Not to be a starter or anything but can I be ready just to play, I guess I'm proud of myself in that respect, but it's still a long road."

Flowers has batted .231 with one home run and three RBI in 11 games this spring. Josh Phegley, Adrian Nieto and Hector Gimenez will compete for backup duties.

White Sox add Adrian Nieto to catcher mix

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/12/2013) The White Sox selected catcher Adrian Nieto from the Nationals organization in the Rule 5 draft Thursday. He'll join Tyler Flowers, Josh Phegley and Hector Gimenez in the battle for two cacher spots.

"Any time you take a guy in Rule 5, you are rushing his development a little bit, so it's a longer shot of it working out," general manager Rick Hahn told MLB.com. "But this kid made some real nice strides in 2013 in terms of development. We figure bring him in and give him the shot and have some competition. It doesn't mean by any means we are done in terms of our search for potential upgrades. This is another avenue to try to bring in some talent."

Nieto hit .285 with 11 homers and an .821 OPS in 390 at-bats at Class A Potomac last season.
