Orioles adding from Triple-A roster

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(9/2/2013) With the Triple-A Norfolk Tides losing in their bid to get to the playoffs Monday, that means the Orioles' roster will have some new faces on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Manager Buck Showalter said Monday that Baltimore can expect to add the likes of outfielder/designated hitter Henry Urrutia, pitcher Josh Stinson and top position prospect Jonathan Schoop from the Tides.

Schoop recorded a hit in Monday's loss to Durham. He's batting .222 over his last 10 games with a homer and two RBI. Schoop hit .255 at Norfolk this year over 267 at-bats with nine homers and 34 RBI in a down season marred by injury.

Urrutia spent some time with Baltimore earlier in the season and will likely be used as a pinch-hitter or designated hitter. Stinson made a start for Baltimore earlier this year and will be used in middle relief.

Henry Urrutia is 'going to be a good one'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/14/2013) Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he's been impressed with how rookie outfielder/DH Henry Urrutia has transitioned to the majors.

"It's kind of tough on him right now, all the things that have been thrown at him like the new country, different leagues, new ballparks and new teammates, but I think he has handled it real well," Showalter said, per MLB.com. "He's very personable, his English is better than you'd think it might be, he's sharp. He's very engaged; you can tell he likes what he's doing."

With the Orioles playing in NL parks, Urrutia has received only six pinch-hit at-bats since Aug. 6. Despite not starting every day, Showalter envisions a bright future for Urrutia.

"He's going to be a good one," Showalter said. "He keeps the bat in the zone a long time, those guys that carve the ball down the line; I'd rather see that than those guys that are in and out of the zone and roll over balls. He's been impressive, he cares. He's going to give himself a chance to be good."

Henry Urrutia officially brought up

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Keeping expectations in check with Henry Urrutia

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/19/2013) Orioles general manager Dan Duquette's take on recently promoted outfielder Henry Urrutia has a certain logic to it:

"He hit .365 in Cuba," Duquette recently told CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Danny Knobler. "He didn't play for a couple of years, so we sent him to Double-A, and he hit .365. Then he went to Triple-A, and he hit .365. We don't have too many guys who hit .365."

So yeah, maybe Urrutia will just keep doing what he's always done and hit .365 in the majors. But he doesn't have much to fall back on if he doesn't.  He didn't hit a single home run in 60 at-bats at Triple-A Norfolk before his promotion, leaving him with just seven in 260 at-bats all season. Maybe if he was 21, you could cut him some slack for the low total, but at 26, he doesn't have much room to improve. He's also a non-factor on the base paths.

I'm thinking Urrutia plays mostly against right-handed pitchers and finishes the year, optimistically speaking, with a .310 batting average and six or seven homers. Those numbers would make him relevant in deeper Fantasy leagues, but nothing you have to rush out and grab right away.

Orioles to call up Henry Urrutia

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(7/18/2013) The Orioles will call up outfielder Henry Urrutia, according to FoxSports.com.

Urrutia is hitting .365/.427/.531 in 260 at-bats in the minors. He had been mentioned as an option by manager Buck Showalter recently. No corresponding move was announced.

Henry Urrutia becoming worthy stashee in deeper formats

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/18/2013) It's good to see Fantasy owners start adding Orioles prospect Henry Urrutia (owned 8 percent of leagues) to seasonal-league rosters. AL-only owners should particularly be aggressive in stashing Urrutia, but if you are in deeper mixed leagues, then it might not be a bad option either.

You have to be amped to hear Orioles manager Buck Showalter say Urrutia is "getting closer to being an option." The kid is hitting .365 with a .531 slugging percentage and .958 OPS in 67 games between Double-A and Triple-A. The Orioles brought him along slowly this year because he sat out a few years trying to defect to the United States, but it seems he's shaken off the rust.

The Orioles weren't overly happy with Urrutia's defense and base running earlier in the year, but he's shown improvement. Even if they think he's a liability in the field, Urrutia could always come up to DH.

Urrutia has the potential to be an impact bat in the second half and appears deserving of a roster spot in deeper formats.

Henry Urrutia 'closer' to being 'option' for Orioles

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/11/2013) Orioles manager Buck Showalter hinted Thursday outfield prospect Henry Urrutia could be close to his major-league debut.

"I think he's getting closer to being an option," Showalter told MASNsports.com.

Urrutia has continued to perform well since his promotion from Double-A Bowie. In 14 games for Triple-A Norfolk, Urrutia is batting .357 (20 for 56) with a triple, four doubles and six RBI. He is batting .363 with a .531 slugging percentage and .957 OPS in 66 games this season.
