Dodgers send pitching prospect Julio Urias to minor-league camp

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/14/2015) Dodgers top pitching prospect Julio Urias has been assigned to minor-league camp as a part of the team's first wave of cuts this spring, reports MLB.com.

Urias, along with Chris Anderson, Ryan Buchter and Josh Ravin were all sent down. Although Urias is considered the top prospect for Los Angeles, he will begin his season in the minors.

"Our standard answer right now is that we won’t see him (in 2015). He's 18," manager Don Mattingly said last month. "Nobody wants to retard his development at all. He’s moving forward. He had (87 2/3) innings last year. He’ll get more this year. There’s a plan to continue to build his innings and get him ready for the big leagues."

Pair of Dodgers' prospects make pro debut

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/27/2013) Dodgers pitching prospects Chris Anderson and Tom Windle made their pro debuts for Class A Great Lakes Wednesday.

Anderson, who was the 18th pick in June's draft, allowed one hit in two scoreless innings and struck out five.

"Strikeouts come. I mean, I'm a power pitcher," Anderson said, per MLB.com. "I know strikeouts are going to be there. But the goal isn't to strike out every hitter. I just want to attack the zone -- throw strikes -- and if I do, I'll get guys out."

Windle, who was selected in the second round (56th overall), tossed two scoreless innings as well, allowing one walk and striking out two.

"Strikeouts and groundouts come usually for me," Windle said. "Right away I had the ball down in the zone, and with this good defense behind me, they're going to be making those plays every time."
