Royals, Athletics agree on LF Ben Zobrist trade

(7/28/2015) The Royals and Athletics have agreed on a trade that would send left fielder Ben Zobrist to Kansas City, CBS Baseball Insider Jon Heyman is reporting.

Kansas City sent one of its top prospects, Sean Manaea , to Oakland in the swap. Manaea was a concensus top-100 prospect by MLB.com and Baseball America. In addition, the Royals also parted ways with pitcher Aaron Brooks in the trade.

For the A's, Zobrist will initially play in the outfield to help fill the void of the injured Alex Gordon. Upon Gordon's return, Zobrist can shift into the infield.

(5/29/2015) A groin issue has Royals pitching prospect Sean Manaea stalled in his rehab from an abdomen strain, the Kansas City Star has reported.

He must now wait until third week of June to join Double-A Northern Arkansas.

Manaea has not pitched since last August. He put up some impressive numbers at Class A Wilmington a year ago, allowing just 102 hits and fanning 146 in 121 2/3 innings despite a 7-8 record.

Manaea is still in extended spring training rehabbing an abdomen strain. Expectations are for Manaea to join Double-A Northern Arkansas once he's healthy enough to begin his minor-league assignment.

(3/13/2015) The Royals announced Friday starting pitcher John Lamb was optioned to minor-league camp.

They also reassigned starting pitcher Scott Alexander, pitcher Miguel Almonte, starting pitcher Christian Binford, pitcher Chris Dwyer, catcher Zane Evans, catcher Cam Gallagher and starting pitcher Sean Manaea to minor-league camp, per The Kansas City Star.

Manaea and Almonte are among the team's top 10 prospects, according to Baseball America.

(3/12/2015) Royals starting pitcher prospect Sean Manaea, who is considered Kansas City's second-best prospect by MLB.com, has been slowed this spring by an abdominal strain. He began long tossing this week, per MLB.com.

"It has been frustrating," Manaea said. "But the main thing now is to get better, take it slow and not hurt it worse."

Manaea said he hopes to be back throwing in games by early April. He will start the season in the minors.

Manaea was selected with the first pick in the competitive balance round as the 34th overall selection in June's draft.
