Towers exercises opt-out option

(5/21/2010) RP Josh Towers was released by the Dodgers on Friday. The veteran pitcher had an opt-out clause in his contract, which could be exercised if he wasn't called up to the major leagues. Towers was pitching at Triple-A Albuquerque and was 2-5 with an 8.05 ERA.

Dodgers may pick Ely over Towers now

(4/27/2010) The Dodgers need a spot starter Wednesday and 23-year-old right-hander John Ely, obtained with Jon Link in the Juan Pierre deal, is the leading candidate, according to MLB.com. Josh Towers had been rumored to be the likely fill-in, but that was before the Dodgers moved up Charlie Haeger to start on three-day's rest and Monday's game was rained out, forcing a Tuesday doubleheader.

No word yet on Towers recall

(4/26/2010) MLB.com reports the Dodgers are considering three candidates to take Vicente Padilla's spot in the rotation on Wednesday against the Mets. The candidates are Double-A right-hander Jesus Castillo, Triple-A right-hander Josh Towers and Triple-A left-hander Scott Elbert.

Towers to replace Padilla?

(4/26/2010) The Los Angeles Times reports that Dodgers RP Josh Towers could be called up to replace Vicente Padilla in the rotation this week.

Dodgers weighing rotation options

(4/26/2010) The Dodgers-Mets game on Monday was cancelled due to rain. The game will be made up as a doubleheader on Tuesday, with the first game starting at 4 p.m. Dodgers SP Hiroki Kuroda and Mets SP Oliver Perez, who were slated to pitch Monday, will pitch on Tuesday. However, the Mets will send Johan Santana to the mound in Game 1 and Perez will pitch the nightcap. The Dodgers will decide between Charlie Haeger, who could pitch on three day's rest, or Josh Towers, who is expected to be recalled from the minors to take the roster spot of Vicente Padilla, to pitch in the game Kurdoa does not.

Dodgers finalize pitching staff

(4/4/2010) The Dodgers will carry 12 pitchers on their opening day roster. Those pitchers are: Chad Billingsley, Jonathan Broxton, Charlie Haeger, Clayton Kershaw, Hiroki Kuroda, opening day starter Vicente Padilla, George Sherrill, Ramon Troncoso, Cory Wade, Carlos Monasterios, Ramon Ortiz and Jeff Weaver. That means that RP Ronald Belisario, RP Luis Ayala, RP Justin Miller, RP Juan P. Perez, RP Josh Towers and RP Francisco Felix did not make the roster.

Towers takes hill vs. Brewers

(3/26/2010) Dodgers SP Josh Towers gave up three runs and five hits in five innings during Thursday's spring start against the Brewers. He struck out four and walked none. The right-hander retired 11 straight batters during one stretch.

Towers shows good command Saturday

(3/20/2010) Dodgers SP Josh Towers allowed two runs on three hits in four innings with a strikeout in Saturday's win over the Rangers. "Towers looked like he had good command," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "I talked with him afterward and he said he thought he made some dumb pitches but he felt good doing what he wanted to do."

Towers strong in first spring start

(3/14/2010) Dodgers SP Josh Towers gave up only one run in three innings in an 11-1 win over the Taiwanese All-Stars Sunday. The outing was his second appearance and first start of the exhibition season. Towers, whose start was rained out Saturday, got the nod for Sunday's game, as Hong-Chih Kuo was scratched due to elbow soreness.

Towers could win a starting spot

(2/26/2010) Dodgers manager Joe Torre said Thursday there will be about six or seven legitimate candidates for the fifth spot in the rotation. Eric Stults appears to be the leading candidate along with challengers James McDonald, Charlie Haeger, Carlos Monasterios, Russ Ortiz, Ramon Ortiz and Josh Towers.

Dodgers will give Towers a look

(12/14/2009) Among lower-level free agents, three right-handers agreed to minor-league contracts: Elmer Dessens with the Mets ($700,000 in majors, $90,000 in minors), Josh Towers with the Dodgers ($700,000/$100,000) and Ryan Speier with the Nationals ($425,000/$90,000).

Guzman, Towers become free agents

(11/12/2009) Outfielder Freddy Guzman and pitcher Josh Towers refused their outright assignments to the minors by the Yankees and elected to become free agents.

Yankees purchase RHP Towers

(9/5/2009) New York purchased the contract of RHP Josh Towers on Saturday. The Yankees added him to the 40-man roster and released catcher Kevin Cash to make room.

Nationals make 11 spring cuts

(3/16/2009) The Nationals have optioned right-hander Tyler Clippard and outfielders Justin Maxwell to Triple-A Syracuse. The moves on Monday were part a series that trimmed the team's spring roster to 47 players. Right-hander Marco Estrada and outfielder Leonard Davis also were optioned to Syracuse, while right-hander Luis Atilano and infielder Ian Desmond were optioned to Double-A Harrisburg. The Nationals also reassigned right-hander Josh Towers, catcher Gustavo Molina, infielders Freddie Bynum and Joel Guzman, and outfielder Jorge Padilla to minor league camp.

Nationals set pitchers for spring

(2/22/2009) On Sunday, Nationals manager Manny Acta named pitchers for the first six games of the spring, starting Wednesday against the Astros in Kissimmee. Rockies have need in their rotation

(4/27/2008) The Rockies have an issue with their current No. 5 starter Mark Redman, but top prospect Greg Reynolds is struggling in Triple-A. Veterans Josh Towers, Victor Zambrano, John Koronka and Valerio De Los Santos are struggling in the Triple-A rotation, too. Jose F. Capellan has been called up, so he and Kip Wells are options to replace Redman out of long relief.

Rockies use Towers in minors

(4/4/2008) The Denver Post reports that the Rockies' Triple-A Colorado Springs rotation, in order, is set with Greg Reynolds, John Koronka, Jose Capellan, Victor Zambrano and Josh Towers. Ryan Speier will work as the closer.

Rockies cut four players Saturday

(3/29/2008) Right-handed pitcher Ryan Speier and catcher Edwin Bellorin were optioned to Colorado Springs, and the team said right-handers Jose F. Capellan and John Towers cleared outright waivers and will report to the Triple-A Sky Sox.

Towers expected to go on waivers

(3/26/2008) While the top of the rotation is of little concern for the Rockies, the No. 4 and No. 5 spots in the rotation might be another story. Manager Clint Hurdle said Wednesday the club will start Jeff Francis on opening day Monday, followed by Aaron Cook and Ubaldo Jimenez to close out the opening series at St. Louis. Mark Redman will start the home opener, followed by Francis and then No. 5 starter Franklin Morales. "The ability to split the positioning of the two young hurlers (Morales and Jimenez) with the guy who's had a large volume of innings is important," Hurdle said, adding it should be less of a strain on the bullpen. The odd man out is 31-year-old right-hander Josh Towers, who will be placed on waivers.
