Towers expected to go on waivers
(3/26/2008) While the top of the rotation is of little concern for the Rockies, the No. 4 and No. 5 spots in the rotation might be another story. Manager Clint Hurdle said Wednesday the club will start Jeff Francis on opening day Monday, followed by Aaron Cook and Ubaldo Jimenez to close out the opening series at St. Louis. Mark Redman will start the home opener, followed by Francis and then No. 5 starter Franklin Morales. "The ability to split the positioning of the two young hurlers (Morales and Jimenez) with the guy who's had a large volume of innings is important," Hurdle said, adding it should be less of a strain on the bullpen. The odd man out is 31-year-old right-hander Josh Towers, who will be placed on waivers.

Towers loses game, his cool
(8/8/2007) Josh Towers (5-9) allowed five earned runs and nine hits in five innings on Tuesday night at Toronto in a game which was very heated. He plunked Alex Rodriguez and the benches cleared. You talking to me?" and was restrained by first base coach Tony Pena as both benches and bullpens came onto the field again.
Towers might get bumped
(8/4/2007) When RHP A.J. Burnett returns to the rotation for next weekend's series against Kansas City, the Jays will have to decide which starter they'll bump from the rotation -- rookie RHP Jesse Litsch or veteran RHP Josh Towers. Litch went 3-2 with a 1.71 ERA in five July starts. "We'll see who matches up the best, who's the best fit," general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. "Litsch has done a good job. "Nothing's going to happen with Philly," Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said Saturday. "They didn't want him bad enough. We're done." But Towers isn't, as he's scheduled to make Wednesday's start in Tampa Bay in the final game of the Jays' six-game road trip.
Towers takes shots at team
(7/28/2007) Blue Jays manager John Gibbons had little to say Saturday about the critical comments made by Josh Towers after a 4-3 loss to the White Sox Friday. Towers said on Friday that his teammates and the coaching staff did not consistently show up. "I was told about them but I have no comment," Gibbons said. Towers back at full strength
(7/4/2007) RHP Josh Towers feels he's just about back to full strength as a starting pitcher. Towers has made five starts since being moved back into the starting rotation. He spent all of May and part of June in the bullpen, making six appearances. "I was the long guy and it was hard to stay sharp with the starters doing so well," Towers said. "It's hard on the body to go from the bullpen to starting. I tried to throw a bullpen session every two days but when you don't see action, you lose some of your pitches. I lost my slider. I told them I'm about two starts away from my body really understanding starting again."
Towers picks up another win
(7/3/2007) Josh Towers had won just two of his previous 19 starts before beating Minnesota last week. He followed that up by allowing four runs and five hits in five innings to win at Oakland Monday, his first back-to-back wins since August 2005 against the Orioles and the Angels. "We've won my last three starts. That's what feels really good," Towers said. "We weren't winning any of my starts last year or earlier this year."

(4/25/2007) The game between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees scheduled for Wednesday night was rained out. With a steady rain falling on the field, the game was called about an hour before it was supposed to start. No makeup date was immediately announced. Towers beat out Victor Zambrano for the last spot in the Jays rotation. "Josh did everything we expected him to do," manager John Gibbons said. "He looks like he did two years ago. I told him to forget about it and bounce back. There is every indication that he has done that."
Zambrano or Towers to be No. 5 SP

Ricciardi said he didn't expect Zambrano would return so quickly. "It's almost like you're waiting for the other shoe to drop. This guy is defying a lot of odds. Medically I keep checking with the trainers and they say no complaints, he's bouncing back real well." Zambrano is scheduled to go at least five innings Friday against Cleveland, while Towers starts the final spring game Saturday against a Cincinnati split-squad. The usually talkative Towers declined to comment after the game.

(5/20/2006) Starter Josh Towers (1-8) became the majors' first eight-game loser by following up his best outing of the season - two runs and five hits in eight innings Sunday against Tampa Bay -- with one of his worst, giving up five runs and eight hits in five innings on Friday at Colorado.
Towers breaks through with win
(5/14/2006) Josh Towers came up with a strong outing with his job on-the-line. Towers won his first game of the season, snapping a seven-game losing streak and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 8-3 on Sunday. "I got a feeling of finally contributing and it feels good," Towers said. Towers (1-7) gave up three runs and five hits in eight plus innings for his first win since a 10-1 complete game victory Sept. 30 against Kansas City. The right-hander's spot in the rotation was in jeopardy after losing his first seven starts this season. Entering Sunday, Towers had allowed 54 hits -- including nine homers -- and 12 walks in 30 1/3 innings. "It's embarassing ... you've lost seven straight games for your team," Towers said. "But this one day doesn't really change anything. I've still got to go out there in five days and prove that I can do it." Towers, who went 13-12 last season and signed a $5.2 million, two-year contract in the offseason, had allowed only three hits through the first eight innings before Joey Gathright led off the ninth with a single and Julio Lugo followed with his first homer of the season to make it 8-3. "

Towers will keep getting chances
(5/5/2006) Josh Towers is 0-6 and saw his ERA rise to 10.59 after Thursday's 7-4 loss to Boston. "He's scrambling," manager John Gibbons said. "Nobody can really figure it out because it doesn't look mechanical. When he's making mistakes, they're not missing them. He's just making more of them than he's ever made. We plan to keep running him out there cause we figure he'll turn it around. And we need him."
