Dodgers acquire Alberto Callaspo, three others from Braves

(5/27/2015) The Dodgers have officially acquired third baseman Alberto Callaspo, pitcher Ian Thomas, pitcher Juan Jaime and pitcher Eric Stults from the Braves, the team announced on Wednesday.

Callaspo, who originally rejected the deal, will be placed on the active roster. Thomas will be optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City while Jaime will go to extended spring training. Stults has been designated for assignment.

(5/27/2015) As part of the trade sending Braves infielder Alberto Callaspo to the Dodgers in exchange for Juan Uribe, the Braves will also send Eric Stults, Ian Thomas and Juan Jaime to the Dodgers, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Braves are reportedly expected to receive pitcher Chris Withrow in the deal as well, reports FoxSports.

(5/22/2015) With Alex Wood scratched with a stomach virus, the Braves promoted left-hander Ian Thomas from Triple-A Gwinnett for some insurance. Thomas has tossed 15 2/3 scoreless innings in the minors this season, per MLB.com.

In a corresponding move, the Braves optioned third baseman Adonis Garcia down to Triple-A. Garcia made just two big-league appearances and had only one at-bat.

(5/2/2015) The Braves called infielder Pedro Ciriaco up from Triple-A Gwinnett, the team announced on Saturday. 

Ciriaco has played 188 MLB games with four different teams over the last five years. He was hitting .234 with a home run and seven RBI with Gwinnett.

To make room, the Braves optioned LHP Ian Thomas to Gwinnett. Thomas had a 2.70 ERA in four appearances for the Braves this year.

(4/21/2015) The Braves have recalled pitcher Ian Thomas from Triple-A Gwinnett, the team announced Tuesday. He takes the roster spot of Andrew McKirahan, who was suspended 80 games after testing positive for lpamorelin. Thomas was optioned to Triple-A early in March and has thrown 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the Braves with three strikeouts and zero walks. 

Thomas posted a 1-2 record in 2014 with a 4.22 ERA in 16 appearances.

(3/9/2015) The Braves have optioned pitcher Ian Thomas and infielder Elmer Reyes to Triple-A Gwinnett, the team announced Monday.

Thomas surrendered one earned run in two innings this spring while striking out two and walking three. Reyes went 1 for 5 in three appearances, striking out once.

The Braves also re-assigned four players to minor-league camp, including pitcher Matt Capps, infielder Johan Camargo and catchers Yenier Bello and Tanner Murphy.

(5/31/2014) The Braves made several minor moves Saturday with three right-handers. They designated for assignment Wirfin Obispo, purchased the contract of Shae Simmons and optioned Ian Thomas back to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Simmons has been tearing it up at Double-A Mississippi. He has yielded just two earned runs on 15 hits in 23 innings with just six walks and 30 strikeouts.

(5/26/2014) Braves reliever Ian Thomas was hit with the loss Monday afternoon against the Red Sox.

Thomas (1-2) permitted a sacrifice fly to David Ortiz and a run-scoring single to A.J. Pierzynski in the seventh inning. He yielded two runs on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. He owns a 4.66 ERA, a 1.66 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB ratio in 9 2/3 innings pitched.

(5/10/2014) The Braves have promoted reliever Ian Thomas from Triple-A Gwinnett to take the place of shelved setup man Jordan Walden. The left-hander was only down for six days after having recorded a 4.26 ERA in 10 appearances for Atlanta.

Thomas is coming off a three-inning outing with Gwinnett in which he pitched shutout ball.

(5/7/2014) Recently demoted Braves reliever Ian Thomas debuted a new pitch in his return to Triple-A Gwinnett Tuesday, as he tossed a handful of sliders in three innings of work.

"He threw four or five sliders to both sides, and they were really, really good," manager Fredi Gonzalez told MLB.com. "It had some depth."

Thomas was sent down in order to get some work in, and is attempting to add a slider to his arsenal for the first time since college. He put up a 4.26 ERA in 10 appearances out of the Braves' bullpen, and could be in line for a call up if the team requires another left-handed reliever down the road.

Thomas (1-0) has appeared in eight games, allowing one run over 5 2/3 innings.

(3/30/2014) Braves pitchers Ian Thomas and Gus Schlosser, and infielder Brandon Hicks have made the opening day roster.

All three players performed well during spring camp, earning their spots on the 25-man roster. Thomas put up a 2.61 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. Schlosser had a 2.03 ERA in 13 1/3 innings. Hicks hit .348 with three home runs during spring.

(3/29/2014) The Braves announced that Ian Thomas, Gus Schlosser and Ryan Buchter have all earned a spot in the bullpen, MLB.com reports.

Thomas struck out 13 and allowed three runs over 10 1/3 innings this spring. Schlosser posted a 2.03 ERA over 13 1/3 innings while Buchter yielded five runs over 8 2/3 innings this spring.
