Eric Hinske released, likely to retire

(7/18/2013) The Diamondbacks have released infielder Eric Hinske, who is likely to retire, the Reno Gazette-Journal reports. Hinske hit .173/.259/.288 with one home run and six RBI in 52 at-bats with the Diamondbacks and went just 1 for 18 with Triple-A Reno before his release.

Hinske, 35, debuted in 2002 with the Blue Jays. The 12-year veteran hit .249/.332/.430 with 137 home runs and 522 RBI in 3,797 career at-bats.

Hinske will serve the suspension Tuesday against the Nationals. He was suspended for his actions during the team's brawl with the Dodgers. In 52 at-bats, Hinske is hitting .173/.246/.288.

(6/14/2013) Diamondbacks utility man Eric Hinske was not in the starting lineup Friday against the Padres but is expected to appeal his five-game suspension, according to FOX Sports.

Hinske left the bench during the brawl and appeared to have hit Yasiel Puig before getting struck with an overhand right from Puig. Hinske was not ejected but was suspended and fined for his actions.

Hinske left the bench during the brawl and was fined for his aggressive actions. He received the second longest suspension of all players in the brawl. Only Ian Kennedy received more games. Hinske is hitting .170/.235/.298 in 47 at-bats this year. 

Hinske, along with his teammates, is expected to appeal the suspension, MLB.com reports.

(4/7/2013) Diamondbacks first baseman Eric Hinske provided a spark late as he uncorked his first home run of the season in Sunday's series finale against the Brewers.

Hinske, who made a pinch-hit appearance in the 11th inning, took closer John Axford deep for a two-run, go-ahead home run. He finished 1 for 1 with a run scored and two RBI in an 8-6 victory in extras.

The 35-year-old veteran is hitting .500/.600/1.250 in four at-bats.
