Mariners' Joe Beimel earns first save since 2009

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5/27/2015) Mariners reliever Joe Beimel pitched a perfect tenth inning to protect a one-run lead in Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay.

Beimel earned his first save since June, 2009, with Washington. He's been with three MLB teams since then.

"I was very amped," Beimel said to MLB.com. "With the second hitter, I actually had to step back a little bit and realize, 'Hey, you're in the game right now and still pitching. Don't let the adrenaline overtake you and control you.' If you use adrenaline, it's good. But if you let it run you and you're throwing pitches up there you're not supposed to be throwing, it's not a good thing."

Report: Signs point to Mariners promoting Taylor, Beimel

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/4/2015) Signs are pointing to the Mariners promoting shortstop Chris Taylor and reliever Joe Beimel from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday, according to The News Tribune. The Mariners have two open roster spots after demoting relievers Yoervis Medina and Tyler Olson to the minors on Sunday.

Taylor was competing for the starting shortstop job this spring before suffering a broken wrist March 13. He is batting .313 with one triple, two home runs, five doubles and six RBI in 21 games.

Beimel signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners in early April. He is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three outings. He has five strikeouts and no walks in 3 2/3 innings.

Rangers reliever Joe Beimel struggles to lock up setup role

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

"I've never experienced anything like this, it's pretty crazy," Beimel said to MLB.com. "It's pretty crazy, every ball is either falling in or I'm making bad pitches. I've got to get it going soon, I've got to get a few outs. In 2008, I had my worst Spring Training up until this year and it was one of my best seasons. Maybe luck will turn in my favor."

Joe Beimel has longest scoreless streak in AL

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(7/10/2014) Mariners lefty reliever Joe Beimel has not allowed a run in his last 17 2/3 innings, the longest active scoreless streak in the American League, reports MLB.com. He was last chaged with a run April 26.

Beimel, 37, has stranded 13 of 15 inherited runners and is 2-1 with a 1.30 ERA in 30 games.

"He's been real good. I've been very pleased. Joe has pitched in a lot of big games in his career," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "I think he's one of the reasons our bullpen is as good as it is. His numbers withstanding, what he brings to that bullpen is experience and gives it a calming effect down there."
