Report: Ryan Ludwick available in trade talks

(7/30/2014) The Reds are telling teams that outfielder Ryan Ludwick is available to be traded, USA Today reports.

Ludwick has a $7.5 million salary this year and a $9 million mutual option for 2015 that carries a $4.5 millino buyout. He has hit .261/.326/.394 with six home runs and 27 RBI in 249 at-bats.

(7/11/2014) Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick smacked his sixth home run Thursday against the Cubs.

Ludwick collected three hits during the outing. After signling his first time up, Ludwick stepped in against Kyle Hendricks in the third inning. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Ludwick ripped a 78 mph changeup out to left for the solo shot. He would add another single later in the game. Ludwick finished 3 for 6, with one run scored and two RBI. 


Reds sticking with three-man rotation in left field

(6/22/2014) Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday he's liked how the rotation of Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker and Chris Heisey has worked in left field that he doesn't envision changing the routine any time soon, per MLB.com.

"I'm just going to let it continue to play out," Price said. "I think the team is playing well now and we're getting the most out of Luddy and Schu. Heisey hasn't been playing as much obviously. He'll run into some really good matchups and get some starts along the way. Right now, seems to be working well with the club. I think there's something good about getting guys in there into the mix. This is one of the ways of doing that."

Ludwick missed a few games due to a back issue. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Chris Heisey. Ludwick will hit sixth and play left Saturday. He's hitting .276/.337/.425 over 174 at-bats.

Ludwick has eight hits in his last 12 at-bats with four doubles to raise his batting average to .277, its highest point since May 10. His slugging percentage of .428 has not been higher for two months.

Ludwick is now batting .393 (11 for 28) with two home runs, five doubles and three RBI in nine June games (seven starts).

Ludwick had cooled off considerably after a hot first five weeks of the season that drove his average up to .278. He has just two hits in his last 21 at-bats. He has also not homered since April 14.

Ludwick injured his knee during Sunday's game, but said he could play Wednesday if needed. It doesn't sound like the injury is too serious, and Ludwick should return to action soon. He's hitting .246 in 118 at-bats.

(4/24/2014) Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick was one of the few bright spots offensively for the club Thursday against the Pirates. 

For the most part, Brandon Cumpton shut down Cincinnati over seven innings. Ludwick, however, wasn't fooled so easily. With two men on in the sixth inning, Ludwick managed to take a first-pitch slider out to center for a two-run double. Ludwick was hit by a pitch, and also added a single, reaching base three times during the contest. He was the only Reds hitter with a multi-hit game.

Ludwick is hitting .293 in 58 at-bats.

Ludwick was hit on the wrist during the fourth inning Wednesday, but his absence from the lineup is not injury-related. Chris Heisey got the start in Ludwick's place. Manager Bryan Price said Ludwick's wrist is a "non-issue." "We're just trying to keep some of these other guys fresh," Price said.

(2/19/2014) Reds manager Bryan Price announced Wednesday his projected batting order for when a right-handed pitcher is on the mound.

Price said Billy Hamilton will lead off, and he will be followed by Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, Ryan Ludwick, Todd Frazier, Devin Mesoraco and Zack Cozart.

Price said he would likely switch Bruce and Ludwick in the lineup when a left-handed starter is on the hill. 

Price also reiterated he hasn't given much thought to batting Votto second.

(2/17/2014) Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick finally feels at 100 percent after missing most of last season because of a shoulder injury, which required in-season surgery.

"I got cleared to lift upper-body weights I think it was Nov. 6," he said, per the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It feels good to be strong again.

"The thing a lot of people don't understand when you come off surgery and you rehab for four months, you're not as strong as you're going to be the following year. I had surgeries. You're never back to feeling really good until about a year post-op. I guess one of the positive things is I got a lot of rest. I didn't need any motivation this offseason."

(10/1/2013) Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick recorded three hits, including two doubles, as Cincinnati dropped the National League wild card playoff game at Pittsburgh Tuesday.

Ludwick was one of the hitting stars for the Reds in a 6-2 loss. He went 3 for 4 with two doubles in the game.

The 35-year-old hit just .240 for the Reds this season as he managed just 38 games as he spent most of the year on the disabled list. He homered twice with 12 RBI on the regular season.

Ludwick is 8 for 31 over his first 11 games, with four of those hits coming Friday and Saturday against the Brewers.
