Rangers release outfielder Ryan Ludwick from minor league deal

Ludwick hit .200 with one home run and three RBI in 30 plate appearances during spring training.

(3/26/2015) The Rangers have informed outfielder Ryan Ludwick that he will not make the team, according to mlblogs.com.

“All-world guy,” general manager Jon Daniels said. “I hope he catches a big league job with another team. I think he can help somebody. As we look at it today, we thought other options in camp fit the roster better.”

Ludwick, 36, has a batting average of .207, six hits with one home run and eight strikeouts this spring.


Banister: Rangers' Ryan Ludwick 'pretty good' Monday

(3/3/2015) Rangers manager Jeff Banister has liked what he's seen thus far from nonroster invitee Ryan Ludwick , MLB.com reports.

"He came out yesterday and swung the bat pretty good," Banister said Tuesday. "Anytime you have veterans that have miles under them with experience, they can have some conversations and can also show these young guys how to prepare themselves. and how to go about it each day."

Ludwick is in the mix to start in left field and hopes his experience will give him an edge in the competition.

"The experience factor is something I can use to my advantage," Ludwick said. "I've been through the trenches before. You go about your business and show up every day ready to play, and hopefully it's enough."

Ludwick hit .244/.308/.375 with nine home runs and 45 RBI in 357 at-bats with the Reds in 2014.

(2/26/2015) Rangers outfielder Ryan Ludwick, who is in camp on a minor-league deal, was brimming with excitement Thursday, as he said he is at all full strength for the first time since opening day 2013. 

Ludwick suffered cartilage damage in his right shoulder on opening day 2013. The injury eventually required surgery.

“It feels better than it has since 2012,” Ludwick said, per The Dallas Morning News. “I put the work in, and now we’ll see where it goes.”

(2/4/2015) The Rangers announced Wednesday they signed veteran outfielder Ryan Ludwick to a minor-league contract, which includes an invite to spring training. If he makes the team, he will net a $1.75 million salary, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

The 36-year-old Ludwick has spent the last three seasons with the Reds. He has a career .260/.330/.451/.781 slash line over 12 MLB seasons.

Ludwick struck out in three of his four trips to the plate Wednesday, but he was able to knock a pitch over the left-field wall in the second inning to tie the game. He has hit .249/.310/.390 with nine home runs and 43 RBI in 333 at-bats.

Ludwick collected three hits during the outing. After signling his first time up, Ludwick stepped in against Kyle Hendricks in the third inning. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Ludwick ripped a 78 mph changeup out to left for the solo shot. He would add another single later in the game. Ludwick finished 3 for 6, with one run scored and two RBI.

(6/22/2014) Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday he's liked how the rotation of Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker and Chris Heisey has worked in left field that he doesn't envision changing the routine any time soon, per MLB.com.

"I'm just going to let it continue to play out," Price said. "I think the team is playing well now and we're getting the most out of Luddy and Schu. Heisey hasn't been playing as much obviously. He'll run into some really good matchups and get some starts along the way. Right now, seems to be working well with the club. I think there's something good about getting guys in there into the mix. This is one of the ways of doing that."

(4/24/2014) Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick was one of the few bright spots offensively for the club Thursday against the Pirates. 

For the most part, Brandon Cumpton shut down Cincinnati over seven innings. Ludwick, however, wasn't fooled so easily. With two men on in the sixth inning, Ludwick managed to take a first-pitch slider out to center for a two-run double. Ludwick was hit by a pitch, and also added a single, reaching base three times during the contest. He was the only Reds hitter with a multi-hit game.
