(5/14/2010) MLB.com reports the Mets signed catcher J.R. House and outfielder Val Pascucci to minor-league contracts on Friday. Both players were assigned to Triple-A Buffalo.

(3/22/2009) RP Yasuhiko Yabuta was among four players the Kansas City Royals assigned to their minor league camp Sunday. The team also assigned OF Chris Lubanski, C J.R. House and Oscar Villarreal to the minors.

(8/22/2008) The Houston Astros activated infielder Jose Castillo for Friday night's game against the New York Mets after picking him up off waivers from the Giants. Castillo was placed on outright waivers by San Francisco on July 13 and the Astros claimed him a week later. To make room for Castillo on the roster, Houston sent infielder J.R. House to Triple-A Round Rock.

House battles in Baltimore camp


(3/10/2007) J.R. House is now trying to secure a job with the Baltimore Orioles. Although his baseball career would be further along if his arm had not required two serious operations, the 27-year-old House has no complaints. "It strengthened me as a person and it strengthened my faith. I wouldn't change anything," he said. "I was stuck in Altoona, Pa. in Double-A because I kept getting hurt." House served as a backup quarterback with West Virginia, completing two passes for 38 yards in his lone season, but the memory of the experience will last a lifetime.

O's hand out slew of minor deals


(1/6/2007) Baltimore announced minor league contracts Friday with right-hander Jose Acevedo, who went 18-25 with a 5.74 ERA in five seasons with Cincinnati and Colorado; right-hander Rob Bell, 30-34 with a 5.69 ERA in six seasons with Cincinnati, Texas and Tampa Bay; and right-hander Francis Beltran, 2-2 with a 5.87 ERA in two seasons with the Cubs and Montreal. Also agreeing to minor league contracts were right-handers Freddy Deza, Michael Doyne, Steve Green, Jon Leicester, Victor Moreno, and left-hander Chris Waters. In addition, the Orioles gave minor league deals to catcher J.R. House, infielders Mike Cervanek, Jason Dubois, Jon Knott, Brandon Sing and Terry Tiffee; and outfielders Luis Montanez and Ruddy Yan.

(2/22/2006) The Houston Chronicle reports that J.R. House, a former record-setting high school QB and top catching prospect for Pittsburgh, hopes to put his injury-riddled past behind him. "I'm looking forward to swinging the bat most of all," said House whom the Astros signed to a minor-league deal last month. "It's what I've always loved to do and I've been successful. I just hope it continues." He has had three hernia surgeries, shoulder surgery and Tommy John surgery. His torn labrum and torn rotator cuff were repaired a year ago Wednesday.
