Brian Roberts clubs four extra-base hits in win

(7/4/2014) The Yankees got a big performance out of infielder Brian Roberts Friday, in a 6-5 win over the Twins.

Coming off a pair of two-hit games over four games, Roberts went 4 for 5 Friday. He had three doubles and a triple, while driving in one run and scoring two in the win.

Roberts bumped his average up more than 10 points with Friday's performance, and is now hitting .248/.318/.384 in 250 at-bats.

(7/1/2014) Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts came through with a clutch hit Monday against the Rays, connecting for a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning off Joel Peralta. The home run sent the game into extra innings, but New York ended up losing 4-3 in 12 innings.

Roberts hit his fourth home run Monday and second in six games. Though, he finished June with just a .215 average in 24 games and is hitting .236 on the season.

(6/25/2014) Yankees infielder Brian Roberts reached back for some rare power Tuesday, in a 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays.

Roberts contributed to a late comeback, with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. He went 2 for 4 overall, adding a double in the loss, along with one run scored and two driven in.

Roberts is hitting .244/.324/.359 with three home runs in 217 at-bats.

However, once the game ended, he underwent an MRI, which came back negative, MLB.com reports. The Yankees have listed him as day-to-day. He is hitting .232 with one home run and 19 RBI in 138 at-bats.

(5/15/2014) Yankees infielder Brian Roberts put the Yankees up for good early in a 4-0 win over the Mets Wednesday.

Roberts drove in the team's first run with a second-inning triple, the first of two in the game. He went 2 for 4 with one run drive in.

Roberts now has three triples on the season, his highest total since the 2008 season. He is hitting .243/.318/.357 in 34 games this season.

(5/7/2014) The Yankees received a rare boost from infielder Brian Roberts Tuesday, as he came up big late in a 4-3 win over the Angels.

Roberts had two RBI hits in the game, one to get them on the board in the fifth and one to win it in the ninth. He took Angels reliever Ernesto Frieri deep in the ninth for a solo home run, his first of the season, to win the game.

Roberts finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBI, just his second multi-RBI game of the season. He is hitting .250/.327/.337 in 92 at-bats.

(4/17/2014) Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts returned to action Thursday and broke out of a mini-slump with a three-hit night against the Rays in Tampa.

Roberts entered Thursday with just one hit over his previous 24 at-bats. He tripled in a run in the second, doubled in the sixth and singled in a run in the seventh. He finished 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBI in a 10-2 win. He is hitting .194 with just three RBI in 36 at-bats this season.

(4/13/2014) Yankees general manager told reporters that second baseman Brian Roberts is dealing with a back injury.

Roberts, who was expected to start Sunday's series finale against the Red Sox, underwent an MRI, which came back negative. He will be re-evaluated in the next few days, according to The Record. The 36-year-old is hitting .129 (4 for 31) to start the year.

(2/17/2014) Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts has missed 445 games the past four seasons due to abdominal, hip, concussion and hamstring issues. However, he's excited about hopefully being a regular in the lineup and staying off the disabled list in his first season with New York.

"I try to take it one day at a time," the 36-year-old Roberts said, per MLB.com. "[Manager] Joe [Girardi] and I talked a little bit, and we have some expectations, but we haven't put too much on it right now. ... My goal is to come in every day and be prepared to play. Whatever he wants to do, if my name is in the lineup, I'll be ready to go."

(1/13/2014) Although Brian Roberts is coming off four straight injury plagued seasons, Yankees manager Joe Girardi hopes to use the veteran infielder on a regular basis at second base in 2014. 

"I think he can help us a lot," Girardi said, per The Journal News. "I think it’s something, I’ll sit down and have a conversation and try to get a feel what he thinks the optimal level of games that he’s going to play, but we’d like to play him pretty often."

The oft-injured infielder actually appeared in 77 games for the Orioles last year, his best total since 2009. He hit .249/.312/.392 with eight home runs and 39 RBI in 265 at-bats, while playing 60 games in the field.

Roberts went 1 for 5 in the game as the leadoff hitter for the Orioles. He's batting .239 on the year for Baltimore. Roberts has hits in six of his last 10 games and has four RBI over that span. He has 37 RBI over 243 at-bats.

Roberts went 3 for 5 with a run scored and the RBI and is batting .246 for Baltimore. That said, he has 34 runs batted in over just 207 at-bats. Roberts has been extremely productive and has been in the lineup nearly every day for the Orioles down the stretch.

The leadoff hitter finished 1 for 4 in the game with a walk and his 33rd RBI. He's batting .240 on the year.

The 35-year-old Roberts is enjoying the playoff chase and has been able to stay healthy. He has homers in two of the last three games and four RBI over his last six contests.
