Ayala had been with the Orioles earlier in the year, but decided to opt out of his deal after he wasn't up at the start of June. Ayala posted a 3.27 ERA over 33 innings in 2013.

The news was reported Friday, but was delayed since Ayala was dealing with an illness. He signed a minor-league deal with the club, and was eligible to opt out at the end of May if he wasn't in the majors.

Ayala will likely decide where to sign Thursday. He pitched all of 2012 and part of 2013 with the Orioles, going 6-5 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 53:14 K:BB ratio in 77 innings.

Ayala, who is pursuing a major-league deal, went 1-1 with a 2.90 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 20:13 K:BB ratio in 31 innings with the Braves last season. He also allowed two earned runs in two innings with the Orioles before being traded to Atlanta in April.

(7/5/2013) Braves reliever Luis Ayala was activated from the disabled list Friday after being out since April 24 with an anxiety disorder.

He is available to pitch out of the bullpen immediately. It took him over two months to recover from his bouts with this disorder, as well as a stomach virus that caused him to lose eight pounds during his recovery.

Ayala has a 5.40 ERA in seven appearances this season. The Braves hope he can bounce back and provide the kind pitching he gave the Orioles and Yankees over the previous two years, when he posted a 2.40 combined ERA in 118 combined appearances.

"Finally I can say I'm healthy and get back to a routine where I can pitch every time," Ayala told MLB.com Friday. "It took a long time, but I was doing my best."

Ayala has enjoyed a resurgence over the past two seasons. After spending 2010 in the minors, he threw 56 innings with a 2.09 ERA for the Yankees in 2011 and tossed 75 innings with a 2.64 ERA for Baltimore. (4/7/2013) Orioles reliever Luis Ayala left Sunday’s game against the Twins around the seventh inning and went to a local hospital, MLB.com reports.

According to manager Buck Showalter, it’s unlikely Ayala travels with the team to Boston, where Baltimore opens a three-game series  Monday.

“[He] just didn’t feel well at all,” Showalter said. “Had some things you normally don’t have and they decided after looking at him, better go check it out. I’ve got a pretty good idea of what we’re dealing with. See how things go.”
