by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(7/19/2014) Dodgers manager Don Mattingly would not reveal how long infielder Chone Figgins (quad) will spend in rehab with Triple-A Albuquerque, MLB.com reports. Figgins started his rehab stint Thursday and has just one hit in his first four at-bats.

"He hadn't played in a while, so he's going to play a little bit, get some [at-bats] to make sure he's ready," Mattingly said. "We'll kind of evaluate him every little section of time."

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/1/2014) Dodgers infielder Chone Figgins was able to work on the field before Tuesday's game, but he's not close to returning from a quad injury, MLB.com reports.

"He's still a ways away," manager Don Mattingly said. "That quad is an injury that's one of the bigger muscles in the leg, and he's going to be a little bit still."

Figgins has been out since June 13, and he has hit .217/.373/.267 with eight runs and four stolen bases in 60 at-bats.

Dodgers recall Jose Dominguez, option Chone Figgins

(4/21/2014) The Dodgers recalled pitcher Jose Dominguez Monday and optioned outfielder Chone Figgins to Triple-A Albuquerque, the team announced.

Dodgers manager thinking about platoon at second base

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/19/2014) Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he could go with a platoon situation at second base to begin the season, while the team continues to evaluate newcomer Alex Guerrero.

"Yeah, we’d think about it," Mattingly said, per The Orange County Register. "Sure. I like platoons, honestly. It gets you a good matchup for the most part, with the right-lefts if you have the right guys for it. To me, it keeps both those guys involved so they’re better off the bench. I don’t mind that platoon system at all."

Guerrero would likely be the right-handed half of the platoon. If the Dodgers go that path, then Dee Gordon, who is a left-handed hitter, and Chone Figgins, who bats from both sides of the plate, could be the front-runners to be part of the platoon. Miguel Rojas, Justin Turner and Justin Sellers are all right-handed hitters, but also in the mix at second base.

"If Alex is one of those guys, I think it would probably be good for him," Mattingly said. "You’re giving him a chance to play, hopefully getting him favorable matchups but also keeping him strong and rested as a guy that hasn’t played in a couple years. Eventually, if you think he’s an everyday guy that might not be the way to go. But I could see that being a possibility if he ends up being one of those guys."

Chone Figgins an option for Cubs?

by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com
(3/23/2013) Cubs manager Dale Sveum told ESPN.com Saturday that because Ian Stewart will begin the season on the disabled list, the club is looking for some infield help.

Sveum was asked if Chone Figgins could be an option.

“Figgins would be interesting just because he switch-hits, he can play the outfield, he can run, he can play the infield,” Sveum said. “He’s like a super-utility guy.”

Figgins was released by the Marlins this week after hitting .308 (8 for 26) with six RBI in 11 spring games.
