C Drew Butera gets nod behind the plate for Royals

(5/25/2015) Catcher Drew Butera will make his third start for the Royals on Monday since being acquired from the Angels, starting against the Yankees and hitting ninth. 

Butera's last start came on May 14 and he's seen just two plate appearances since then. He has two hits in eight at-bats with the Royals. 

Second baseman Omar Infante is the only Royals starter with experience against Yankees pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, with two hits in three at-bats.

(5/9/2015) Royals second baseman Omar Infante went 3 for 5 with a double, a triple and an RBI in his team's 6-2 win over the Tigers Saturday.

Infante smacked an RBI single in the fourth inning to bring home his team's final run of the game, and he came a home run shy of the cycle while collecting his ninth double and first triple of the season. Infante has hit .250/.263/.370 with 12 RBI in 92 at-bats.

Infante, who was pulled from Sunday's game due to a groin strain, field ground balls for the first time since suffering the injury. He was considered an emergency option for Tuesday night against Minnesota. Christian Colon and Orlando Calixte has filled at second base during Infante's absence.

Second baseman Omar Infante is out of the lineup Tuesday as expected. Christian Colon draws the start at second base and will bat ninth.

(4/20/2015) Royals manager Ned Yost said Monday that he doesn't believe second baseman Omar Infante will need to be placed on the disabled list, the Kansas City Star reports.

Infante was pulled from Sunday's game due to a groin strain, but Yost said he could be available in an emergency situation Tuesday. The second baseman said that his MRI came back clean and that he only expects to miss three or four days, FOX Sports Kansas City reports.

"Feels much better [Monday]," Infante said, per MLB.com.

Infante has hit .250/.244/.350 with five RBI in 40 at-bats.

(4/19/2015) Royals second baseman Omar Infante injured his groin while running the bases in Sunday's game. 

Infante left for a pinch runner after doubling in the fifth inning. The team announced that he had suffered a left groin strain and is day-to-day. Manager Ned Yost said after the game Infante will likely miss more time than shortstop Alcides Escobar, who missed the final two games of the weekend series with Oakland, according to MLB.com.

"He is feeling no discomfort (throwing)," Yost said.

Infante, who received a cortisone injection in his right elbow, has yet to play at second base in a spring game. 

"He's extending it and he's progressing," Yost said. "We'll just have to keep checking on how he's doing and when he'll be ready.

"We're getting to the point where we have to see him in a game [defensively]. That needs to happen within a week or so. If we can get him in 10 games or so down here, that should work."

(3/13/2015) Royals second baseman Omar Infante is prepared to deal with some pain for the upcoming season. 

In an interview with MLB.com, Infante said he is considering surgery on a bone spur in his elbow following the 2015 season. Infante has experienced pain and inflammation in the elbow for over two years, with previous treatments not curing the root of the problem.

He did receive a cortisone shot last week to help reduce the inflammation and manage the pain. 

"I'm thinking about [surgery] after this season — right after this season," Infante said. "I want it to get better."

Infante played in 135 games a year ago and hit .252 with 66 RBI.

Infante received a cortisone shot in his injured elbow Saturday night after being scratched from Friday's lineup due to soreness. Manager Ned Yost said that Infante will likely serve as the team's designated hitter Wednesday.

Infante is expected to resume his throwing program Saturday, the Kansas City Star reports. He hopes to see action in 10 games before opening day.

(3/6/2015) Royals second baseman Omar Infante was scratched from Friday's spring game against the Indians due to elbow soreness, per MLB.com. However, he is tentatively penciled in to DH on Saturday against the Reds.

Infante added he is scheduled to have an MRI on his elbow Friday afternoon.

"It just hurts a little when I throw," Infante said. "There's no pain when I hit."

Manager Ned Yost said he doesn't believe Infante is dealing with a ligament issue.

"It could be a bone spur that chipped or broke loose and is causing inflammation," Yost said. "We just don't know, so we'll get it checked out. We'll see if maybe a [cortisone] shot is warranted. We'll find out."

(2/26/2015) Royals second baseman Omar Infante dealt with some injury issues in 2014, including soreness in his elbow, back and shoulder. However, after two days of throwing and hitting at camp, Infante is feeling fine, per MLB.com.

"Everything's good," Infante said on Thursday. "I'm trying to take it a little slow, but right now it all feels fine.

"The shoulder is fine now. I don't really feel anything with [the elbow] either, maybe just a little bit. Not worried."

Infante dealt with a shoulder issue in the final stretch of the season, including the playoffs. It remains to be seen if his elbow inflammation is connected to his previous shoulder issues. He hit .252 with six home runs, 21 doubles and 66 RBI in 135 games for Kansas City last season.

(12/9/2014) The Royals are putting second baseman Omar Infante on the trading block, sources told FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal. Infante hit .252 with six home runs, 21 doubles and 66 RBI in 135 games for Kansas City last season.

Infante has three years left on a four-year, $30.25 million contract. He also has a $10 million team option ($2 million buyout) for 2018.

(10/24/2014) Royals infielder Omar Infante, who is fresh off a signature Game 2 performance in the World Series, is taking increased doses of Toradol to fight off shoulder discomfort, the Kansas City Star reports.

"I feel better, because I'm taking strong pills," Infante said. "That’s helped me a lot. I feel it a little bit in B.P., and I still feel sore in the front of my shoulder. But yesterday I felt more comfortable."

Infante has a .229/.300/.343 line with one home run and three RBI over 10 postseason games. He may opt for offseason surgery to repair his nagging shoulder injury.

Infante wasted no time getting to work, doubling in his first at-bat. He would come around to score during the frame, giving the Royals a 2-1 lead. Infante would strike again in the bottom of the sixth. With a man on base, Infante belted a 98 mph fastball out to left for the two-run shot. He finished 2 for 3, with two runs scored and two RBI.

Infante admitted that he's had pain all season. "When I swing in BP, I feel a lot of pain," Infante said. "I can’t swing really hard. I feel bad, because all year, I’ve felt something." Infante does not participate in pre-inning throwing, as he wants to save his bullets for when he needs them. Despite the issue, manager Ned Yost has not shied away from using Infante as a starter in the playoffs. After the season, Infante plans to have the injury examined. "When the year is over, we’ll have to check everything," he said. "I want to come back next year to feel good. This year has been very tough for me."
