(7/13/2014) Royals second baseman Omar Infante went 1 for 4 with a two-run single in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Tigers. Infante finished the weekend series 5 for 12 and has hit safely in 12 of his past 13 games.

Infante is hitting .276/.317/.381 with 46 RBI in 286 at-bats entering the All-Star break.

With the bases juiced, Infante stepped to the plate against Matt Shoemaker. He worked a six-pitch at-bat, homering on an 84 mph changeup. It was Infante's only hit of the game. He finished 1 for 4, with one run scored and four RBI.

Infante opened his team's scoring with an RBI single in the fifth inning and added a three-run home run one inning later. He's in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak but has been particularly hot over his last four games, going 8 for 20 with six runs and five RBI. Infante has hit .249/.290/.353 with three home runs and 30 RBI in 201 at-bats.

The Kansas City Star reports Infante will begin a minor-league rehab assignment Friday, with Triple-A Omaha. The length of the assignment is not yet known, as Infante is already eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list.

Manager Ned Yost told MLB.com he does not expect Infante to play Saturday or Sunday due to the injury, though he is feeling better. The team recalled infielder Johnny Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha to fill in for Infante for a few days.

"We figured that he wouldn't play today, wouldn't play tomorrow and instead of pushing it -- with the off-day Monday, we're kind of shooting for Tuesday," Yost said. "So that's kind of the plan. We figured we'd get a second baseman up here for a couple days and go from there."

He was not in the starting lineup against the Mariners. Infante will not need a stint on the disabled list, but he is not expected back until Saturday, at the earliest, according to the Kansas City Star.

Infante felt minor pain in his back after the game Tuesday, which has caused him to miss back-to-back games. Danny Valencia will take over for him at second base. Infante is listed as day to day. He is hitting .267 with two home runs and a team-leading 19 RBI in 120 at-bats.

Infante drove in at least one run in all but one of his plate appearances. He had an RBI groundout in the first inning, and followed that up with a sac fly in the third. The ball started to fall in for hits in the fifth, as Infante drove a two-run single to left. In the seventh, he added a two-run homer off Evan Meek. 

In his final plate appearance of the day, Infante walked. He finished the game 2 for 3, with one run scored and six RBI.

(4/16/2014) Royals infield Omar Infante provided some rare pop in a 4-2 win over the Astros, as he recorded his first extra-base hit of the season.

Infante opened the game with a solo home run in the first inning, and then added another RBI in the third inning on a fielder's choice to give the Royals a lead. He finished the game 1 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while walking once.

Infante has hit for almost no power this season, but he has found ways to be productive nonetheless. He is hitting .297/.381/.378 through his first 10 games with the Royals.
