News: The Rockies designated SP Adam Eaton for assignment on Tuesday.
Analysis: Eaton hasn't been a relevant Fantasy option in years, and now he doesn't have a team. Ignore him.
News: Colorado recalled outfielder Matt Murton from Colorado Springs and optioned right-handed pitcher Adam Eaton to their Triple-A club. Eaton was the winning pitcher in the Rockies' dramatic 14-inning win over San Francisco on Monday night.
Analysis: Murton is just outfield depth for the Rockies and is, at best, an NL-only Fantasy option while up in the big leagues. Eaton has no Fantasy value as a middle reliever, at best, while in the bigs.
News: The Rockies selected the contract of right-hander Adam Eaton from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday and optioned righty Jhoulys Chacin to the Sky Sox. Chacin, one of the Rockies' top pitching prospects, was sent down a day after making his first major league start. He lasted 2 2-3 innings, giving up four runs and walking six. He was 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA in five overall games for Colorado. To make room for Eaton on the 40-man roster, the Rockies transferred left-hander Alan Embree to the 60-day DL.
Analysis: Eaton signed a minor league contract with the organization June 9, where he was 3-3 with a 2.67 ERA in 12 games. The 33-year-old pitcher was released by the Orioles on June 6 after starting eight games and going 2-5 with an 8.56 ERA. Consider him nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men at this point.
News: The Rockies signed veteran right-hander Adam Eaton to a minor league contract Saturday.
Analysis: Eaton is nothing more than organizational depth at this point in his career. Ignore him in all Fantasy leagues right now.
News: Struggling pitcher Adam Eaton has been released by the Baltimore Orioles, who lost patience with the right-hander after he won only two of eight starts. Eaton gave up seven runs 4 2/3 innings against the New York Yankees on Thursday, a performance that left him 2-5 with an 8.56 ERA.
Analysis: Eaton allowed nine homers and 19 walks in 41 innings, and failed to last longer than six innings in seven of his eight starts. Even if he catches on elsewhere, he is not worth adding in Fantasy until he can prove effective.
News: Baltimore SP Adam Eaton had his fair share of struggles on Thursday in a 7-4 loss to the Yankees. He got through only 4 2/3 innings in the game, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits. He walked three batters and struck out only one, giving up two long balls.
Analysis: Eaton's ERA went up to 8.56 on the season, which is an unacceptable number for any pitcher. He has allowed seven earned in each of his last two starts and hasn't worked past the fifth since April 28 against the Angels. He is a very risky play and more likely to lose points than earn them in head to head formats. He is slated to be a two-start pitcher in Fantasy week 8 (May 25-31) with starts against the Blue Jays and Tigers.
News: Orioles Triple-A starter David Hernandez may be the next Baltimore pitcher recalled to start for the Birds this season, reports MASNsports.com. Hernandez is 3-1 with a 3.50 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 36 innings for Norfolk and he's three year's older than the Tides' other pitching phenom, Chris Tillman, at 24 years of age. MASNsports.com's Roch Kubatko reports hearing Hernandez's name as the next guy called upon to possibly take struggling Adam Eaton's place in the rotation.
Analysis: Baltimore must first have a need to recall Hernandez. That need will either come from injury or the team's frustration at Eaton's struggles. Eaton is 2-4 with a 7.93 ERA and 1.76 WHIP this season for Baltimore. He hasn't given them innings, the one thing they've really asked of him, and he isn't apart of the team's youth movement. Hernandez is and could be pitching for the big club sometime in June.
News: Orioles SP Adam Eaton suffered his fourth loss in perhaps his worst start of the season Friday at Kansas City. He allowed seven runs on 10 hits in five innings, issuing one walk and recording three strikeouts. He has had only one quality start in seven tries this season, posting a 7.93 ERA.
Analysis: Eaton can't last long in the starting rotation, especially with the kind of pitching the Orioles have in their farm system, not to mention the impending return of Rich J. Hill. Even if Eaton sticks around, he'll do your Fantasy team more harm than good. Ignore him. His next start is scheduled for Thursday at the Yankees.
News: Orioles SP Adam Eaton had an eight-run lead by the second inning on Saturday against the Yankees. All he had to do was hold on. Eaton eventually allowed four runs on four hits, including two homers, over five innings and earned the win. He struck out one and walked five. His ERA is 7.18 on the year.
Analysis: Eaton (2-3) was not pretty on Saturday. In fact, he looked downright ineffective in trying to maintain a commanding lead. He walked the bases loaded in the third and that is now how you pitch with such a big lead. Eaton should not be trusted in anything but AL-only Fantasy leagues, if that, at this point in his career. Eaton next starts on Friday at Kansas City against ace Zack Greinke.
News: Baltimore SP Adam Eaton failed to earn the victory on Monday against the Rays but pitched well enough for the Orioles to win the game. Eaton allowed four earned runs on five hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out two for the Birds as his ERA is now 7.18 on the season.
Analysis: Eaton didn't lose on Monday and the Birds pulled out the win. Still, he didn't do anything that would suggest needing to use him in Fantasy at this time. He's 1-3 on the season with a high ERA and you should have only been using him in AL-only leagues even in his two-start week. He goes again on Saturday against the Yankees.
News: Baltimore SP Adam Eaton didn't fare quite as well in Tuesday's start against the Angels as he did in his previous outing. Coming off a two-run 7 1/3-inning performance in a win over the White Sox, Eaton gave up five runs on six hits over six frames Tuesday. He walked four and struck out two and earned his third loss of the year. Eaton (1-3) has a 7.17 ERA.
Analysis: Just when you thought Eaton figured something out, he comes back and pitches poorly on Tuesday. It seemed every time the Orioles took the lead, Eaton gave it right back and that is never a good sign. His ERA is high and he's only an option for AL-only leagues right now. Eaton is a two-start pitcher in Week 5 (May 4-10) as he goes Monday at Tampa Bay against Scott Kazmir. That will be a tough matchup and we just can't recommend Eaton in any mixed leagues.
News: Orioles SP Adam Eaton, who got rocked in his first two starts this season just like he did in every start each of the last two years in Philadelphia, took a four-hitter into the eighth inning to earn his first victory Thursday against the White Sox. He allowed two runs six hits, struck out nine and walked none in 7 1/3 innings.
Analysis: Signed in March after being released by Philadelphia, Eaton had an 11.25 ERA in his first two starts with the Orioles and failed to last more than four innings. He's not that bad, but he's really not this good either and will likely be at risk of losing his rotation spot all season. Leave him for the deepest of AL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Angels.
News: Baltimore SP Adam Eaton lasted just four innings against the Red Sox on Saturday in his second loss of the season. Eaton gave up six runs on nine hits, walked two and had four strikeouts. Eaton gave up four runs in the 3rd inning and never recovered, raising his season ERA to 11.25.
Analysis: Eaton has started twice this season and has been awful twice. He was worse on Saturday against Boston than in his first start against the Rays and the transgression is a bad sign. Eaton should only be owned in the very deepest of AL-only leagues because he's not going to give the Orioles too many solid starts this season. Plus, there is no telling how long the Birds decide to let him pitch every fifth day. He's next scheduled start on Thursday against the White Sox and Bartolo Colon. We implore you not to start him.
News: Baltimore fifth starter Adam Eaton, who was called up from the minors shortly before his Sunday start against the Rays, picked up the loss against the AL-East rivals. Eaton pitched just four innings after racking up a high pitch count early. That said, he didn't pitch horribly as he struck out six Rays hitters. He allowed four runs on eight hits and walked two. "I wasn't laboring. Laboring is when you're kind of struggling with stuff," he said. "For the most part, I had everything going."
Analysis: Eaton definitely labored on Sunday, no matter what he wants to say, in his first start with the Orioles. He didn't pitch bad enough to deserve not getting a start in his second turn on Saturday at Boston. That said, we wouldn't trust Eaton to start in Fantasy in anything but the deepest of Fantasy leagues in Week 2 (April 13-19) as he's facing Brad Penny.
News: The Baltimore Orioles have purchased SP Adam Eaton's contract from the minors as he will start on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Analysis: It is likely that Eaton will remains with the Orioles as the O's No. 5 starter for the time being but he isn't recommended in Fantasy in anything but the deepest of AL-only leagues. We just don't think he's going to be any good.
News: Baltimore will add RHP Adam Eaton to the roster for Sunday's game to start against the Rays.
Analysis: Eaton is likely to stay as the O's No. 5 starter for the time being but he isn't recommended in Fantasy in anything but the deepest of AL-only leagues. We just don't think he's going to be any good.
News:The Sports Xchange reports that Orioles SP Adam Eaton, who was selected as the Orioles' No. 5 starter, won't open the season in Baltimore. Eaton, who is not on the 40-man roster, will pitch at extended spring training in Sarasota, Fla., until he is needed. Until that time, probably around April 11 according to the Baltimore Sun, RP Brian Bass will stay on the 25-man roster as a long reliever.
Analysis: It will be hard for Eaton to find wins with the Orioles this year and we don't suggest owning him in any Fantasy formats right now unless it is the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: Manager Dave Trembley finalized the Orioles' rotation heading into the season. Jeremy Guthrie will pitch the opener Monday against the Yankees and he will be followed by Koji Uehara, Alfredo Simon, Mark Hendrickson and Adam Eaton. Eaton, who was released by the Phillies earlier this spring, will not be added to the roster until the Orioles need a fifth starter on April 11 or 12.
Analysis: Guthrie opens the season as Baltimore's ace, but he really needs to watch out for Uehara, who has solid sleeper potential in mixed leagues. Right now, Guthrie is lining up to be the O's only two-start pitcher Week 1 (April 5-12) and can be considered a viable mixed-league Fantasy SP. Hendrickson and Eaton can very hot-and-cold, while Simon is getting his first crack in the majors after an impressive spring (1.13 ERA in 16 innings). Consider Hendrickson, Eaton and Simon more AL-only Fantasy options.
News: Baltimore SP Adam Eaton, who arrived in camp on March 4, allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks in five innings in a spring game against the Mets on Thursday. He threw 94 pitches and said his arm strength is where it needs to be heading into the season. "It went pretty well," said Eaton, who gave up nine runs on 17 hits and five walks in his previous two starts. "Between this start and last start, I started working on some stuff and I can definitely see the benefits of it, being a little more consistent, directionally keeping everything toward the plate."
Analysis: Eaton said the Orioles haven't told him whether he is in the starting rotation, but signs point in that direction. The roster still stands at 29, but final decisions are forthcoming. "I wish I would have made the decision a little easier for them, but I know if the decision is made that I am on the staff, they will be pleased with what they get," he said. It will be hard for Eaton to find wins with the Orioles this year and we don't suggest drafting or owning him in any Fantasy formats right now unless it is the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: Baltimore starter Adam Eaton became the first Orioles pitcher to throw five innings this spring, despite a shaky outing. Released by Philadelphia earlier this spring, Eaton earned the win even though he allowed five runs on nine hits and four walks in his third start for the Orioles. "I struggled - I didn't have everything working at the same time, ever," Eaton said. "At the same time, I still got five innings and 90 pitches. In that regard, it's mission accomplished, but I still fell an inning short of what I wanted to do."
Analysis: Eaton, at 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in 16 innings this spring, is basically a lock for the starting rotation. That is sort of pathetic for the Orioles' staff, but that is the way it is in Baltimore. With that in mind, it'll be hard for Eaton to find wins and we don't suggest drafting or owning him in any Fantasy formats right now unless it is the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: MLB.com reports that Orioles manager Dave Trembley said Tuesday that SP David Pauley will be a reliever, ruling him out of the race for a rotation spot.
Analysis: The remaining candidates for rotation spots appear to be SP Adam Eaton, RP Danys Baez, SP Mark Hendrickson, RP Alfredo Simon, SP Hayden Penn and RP Brian Bass. Pauley will be a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of AL-only leagues that use true middle men at this point. Ignore him on Draft Day.
News: Baltimore SP Adam Eaton, who was scratched as starter to give Jeremy Guthrie the ball, gave up home runs to Delmon Young, Matt Tolbert and Brendan Harris in four innings against the Twins on Monday. He allowed eight hits, struck out four and walked one. Eaton's spring ERA is 5.73 in 11 innings.
Analysis: Eaton is likely going to begin the season in the O's starting rotation, regardless of how poorly he's pitching right now. Baltimore needs established arms that badly. Eaton can be an innings-eater for the Orioles, which makes him a candidate to help in the deepest of AL-only leagues only.
News:Adam Eaton's bid to join the Orioles' rotation ended better than it started. Eaton issued a four-pitch walk to Skip Schumaker to start the first inning than gave up a single to Chris Duncan. Schumaker scored on Ty Wigginton's errant throw attempting to double-up Albert Pujols. Pujols scored on Ryan Ludwick's single. "It took me a little bit to get comfortable again," Eaton said. "After that I settled down and made some good pitches, but luck wasn't on my side and a couple balls found a hole." Eaton, who was released by Philadelphia earlier this spring, only allowed one baserunner after the first inning and faced the minimum nine batters in his final three innings. "I thought he was better," said Baltimore manager Dave Trembley, comparing Wednesday's start to Eaton's first outing. "His changeup was better. His fastball for the most part, with the exception of the first hitter, was down."
Analysis: Eaton can be an innings-eater for the Orioles, which makes him a candidate to help in the deepest of AL-only leagues. He is not going to evoke images of Fantasy dominance and the Orioles don't figure to give him much of a chance to be a .500 pitcher. Consider him a risky low-end option even in the deepest of AL-only formats.
News: Signed March 1 after his release from the Phillies, Adam Eaton allowed two runs in three innings of the Orioles' 6-5 loss to the Cardinals on Friday. "The first inning, the ball was up and the sinker was sliding into their barrels, but that's what happens," he said. "I was glad to get three innings in as opposed to doing two innings, which is what you would normally do. I definitely felt strong enough that I could have gone back out there for more innings." Instead, Eaton threw 15 more pitches in the bullpen until he was satisfied. "After that first inning, I slowed my lower half down and made some good adjustments in the second and third innings," said Eaton, who allowed four hits, walked none and struck out one. "I threw a bunch of strikes. I only had one count that went to two balls, and that was the last hitter (Pujols), and I was able to get him out."
News: SP Adam Eaton and the Orioles agreed to a minor-league contract Sunday, and the right-hander will join the team's major-league spring training camp. The 31-year-old Eaton was released by Philadelphia on Friday after going 4-8 with a 5.80 ERA in 21 games for the Phillies last year. "It's an opportunity to add a veteran starter," said Andy MacPhail, Baltimore's president of baseball operations. "Last year, he had 19 starts, 10 of which were quality starts. It's something that's appealing to us. It represents a low-risk opportunity to have a veteran that we can evaluate to see if it makes sense to us going forward."
Analysis: The Orioles have three spots in their starting rotation up for grabs behind right-handers Jeremy Guthrie and Koji Uehara, but Eaton is pretty much beyond the point where the Orioles or anyone else can expect him to become a plus major-league pitcher. He'll likely work out of the bullpen if he even makes the roster, so don't bother with him in Fantasy.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that the Phillies have released SP Adam Eaton. The righthander, who will make $8.5 million this season, can be claimed by any team off waivers who is willing to pay him the $400,000 veteran minimum. The Phillies will pay the rest of his salary.
Analysis: Eaton went 14-18 last season with a 6.10 ERA in 51 games, 49 of them starts, after signing a three-year, $24.5 million contract with the Phillies prior to the 2007 season. He will likely end up somewhere else this spring, but unless he finds himself with a spot in a rotation, he has very little Fantasy value.
News: Entering the last season of a three-year, $24.5 million contract, pitcher Adam Eaton reported to camp Friday. After being left off the postseason roster, Eaton declined to work out in Florida during the first two rounds of the playoffs and was sent home. He didn't attend the World Series championship parade in Philadelphia. "I think if I was invited I probably would have showed up," Eaton said.
Analysis: The Phillies say Eaton won't compete for a rotation spot this spring, so consider him nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men at this point. You can ignore him on Draft Day.
News: The competition for the Phillies' fifth starter spot will be a four-pitcher race between Chan Ho Park, Kyle Kendrick, J.A. Happ and prospect Carlos Carrasco. GM Ruben Amaro said Adam Eaton, entering the final year of a three-year, $24.5 million contract, is not involved in the competition.
Analysis: Kendrick has to be considered the favorite going in, but all of these options are mere NL-only fliers at this point. Carrasco has elite potential and would be a nice sleeper for mixed leagues if he gets time in the Phillies' rotation this season. Happ is a prospect, too, but one with a lower ceiling than Carrasco. Park and Eaton are nothing more than a low-end NL-only long reliever at this point in his career.
News: With the Phillies' signing of free-agent RHP Chan Ho Park on Tuesday, Adam Eaton is out of the mix for a rotation spot, according to The Associated Press.
Analysis: Eaton was once a perennial sleeper in Fantasy, striking out a decent number of batters each year, but he has since fallen off the map, as evidenced by the Phillies' attitude toward him now. Don't even bother with him in Fantasy.
News: Rookie J.A. Happ is moving into Philadelphia's rotation for at least one start as the Phillies continue to battle for the NL East lead. Manager Charlie Manuel said the left-hander will replace Kyle Kendrick in the rotation for Wednesday night's game against the Atlanta Braves. Kendrick (11-9) allowed seven runs and six hits in 1 1/3 innings in a 10-8 loss to the Florida Marlins last Tuesday. He has allowed 13 runs in only 5 1/3 innings in two starts this month. Happ has no record and a 3.27 ERA in two starts and has never faced the Braves. Manuel said Tuesday he has not decided if Happ will remain in the rotation after Wednesday's game. Adam Eaton and Kendrick will pitch out of the bullpen for the next few days at least.
Analysis: Happ is nothing more than a high-risk option for the deepest of leagues down the stretch. The Phillies have a great offense to get him run support at least. Kendrick and Eaton are nothing more than middle relievers for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men at this point.
News: According to The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Kyle Kendrick remains the top candidate to start for the Phillies on Wednesday night in Atlanta, although pitching coach Rich Dubee said the club is "in no hurry" to make that decision. The options: Kendrick (11.35 ERA over his last six starts), inexperienced LHP J.A. Happ (three career major league starts) or maligned RHP Adam Eaton (6.10 ERA in two seasons with the Phillies). Kendrick is the favorite, if only because neither Happ nor Eaton has started a game since the minor league season ended Labor Day weekend.
Analysis: Kendrick, Happ or Eaton are nothing more than high-risk options for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men down the stretch. The trio figures to be competing for a No. 5 starter's gig next season, too.
News: The Phillies recalled RHP Adam Eaton and LHP J.A. Happ from Triple-A Lehigh Valley purchased the contracts of OF Greg Golson and C Lou Marson from Double-A Reading and transferred RHP Tom Gordon and RHP Francisco Rosario to the 60-day DL on Sunday.
Analysis: Eaton could get emergency starts in September, but he is nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men at this point.
News: According to The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Adam Eaton is expected to return to the Phillies on Monday after roster expand. Eaton, who is owed $8.5 million next season, is 0-4 with a 7.42 ERA in six starts since he accepted a minor league assignment in late July. Eaton will serve primarily as a long reliever. RHP Kris Benson, also likely to get called up, is another long-relief option, even though he said two weeks ago that he would need too much time to warm up to be effective in a relief role.
Analysis: Eaton and Benson are nothing more than low-end relievers for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men, once they arrive next week.
News:Carlos Carrasco is on a tear in Triple-A, posting a 0.48 ERA in three Triple-A starts, but he is not taking the rotation of Kyle Kendrick just yet. Carrasco is listed as Tuesday night's probable starter for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Adam Eaton and his 7.20 ERA in Double-A doesn't appear to be a viable option right now.
Analysis: Eaton would be nothing more than a high-risk option even in NL-only leagues if he is recalled this season. It is most likely he returns in September as a long reliever.
News: According to The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Adam Eaton will make his first minor league start Thursday at Class A Lakewood. Eaton isn't expected to rejoin the Phils until after Labor Day. Eaton agreed to a minor league assignment Monday after being removed from the starting rotation and struggling to adapt to a relief role. Eaton is 4-8 with a 5.80 ERA in 21 appearances (19 starts).
Analysis: Eaton will work a longer minor league recovery stint than Brett Myers did. Consider him a candidate to right himself in the minors in the next few weeks and perhaps be a sleeper in deeper leagues come early September for the contending Phillies, who have a great offense to get him run support. We don't see much of a reason to keep him stashed right now, though.
News: The Phillies optioned RHP Adam Eaton to the minors Monday.
Analysis: Eaton will work a longer Triple-A recovery stint than Brett Myers did. Consider him a candidate to right himself in the minors in the next few weeks and perhaps be a sleeper in deeper leagues come late August for the contending Phillies, who have a great offense to get him run support.
News:Adam Eaton (4-8) pitched a scoreless inning to get the win in his third career relief appearance. Eaton, banished from Philadelphia's rotation, pitched out of the bullpen twice for San Diego in 2005 after returning from an injury. He allowed two hits in his inning of work.
Analysis: Eaton is nothing but a middle-relief Fantasy option for leagues that use them at this point in his career unless he returns to the rotation.
News: The Philadelphia Phillies moved Adam Eaton to the bullpen Friday to open a spot in the rotation for newly acquired Joe Blanton, who is expected to start for the team Tuesday against the New York Mets. The Phils obtained the right-handed Blanton from Oakland on Thursday for three minor leaguers. Eaton is 3-8 this season with a 5.71 ERA in 19 games, all starts. He has started all but two of the 195 games he has pitched in the majors but is switching to long relief. "When I look at our rotation, we needed some different looks," manager Charlie Manuel said before the start of a weekend series at Florida. "We needed to try to get better. It doesn't hurt to try to get a little creative at times."
Analysis: In 6 1/3 innings over his past two outings, the right-handed Eaton has allowed 16 runs and 17 hits. He joins a bullpen that began the weekend with the lowest ERA in the big leagues. Eaton becomes only a middle-relief option in leagues where relievers are prevalent. He'll probably be the team's long man, so he could accumulate some wins. It just won't be enough to warrant using him.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton, who has a 6.20 ERA in his last 13 starts, will get his second half under way when he takes on the Mets at Shea on Tuesday. He will get a second start in Fantasy Week 17 (July 21-27) when he faces the Braves at home on Sunday.
Analysis: Eaton is hanging on to his rotation spot by a thread and J.A. Happ will be ready for a call up if Eaton struggles again over his next couple of starts. While two-start pitchers will always attract some attention, Eaton should really only be used in desperate times for owners in deeper NL-only leagues. Be sure to ignore him in Fantasy Week 16 (July 17-20), as he won't see the field in the short period.
News: Phillies starter Adam Eaton (3-8) allowed eight runs on seven hits Saturday against the Diamondbacks, failing to reach the fourth inning for the second straight start and picking up his 8th loss.
Analysis: Eaton has allowed 16 runs on 17 hits in 6 1/3 innings in his last two outings. His season ERA now stands at 5.71, so leave him for NL-only leagues, especially while he's struggling. Eaton will most likely make one start in the short week following the All-Star Break, but nothing has been set in stone yet, so check back.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton, who entered Monday's game against New York with a 5-0 career record against the Mets, was touched for 10 hits and eight runs -- six earned -- in 2 2/3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. He issued one walk and recorded one strikeout, taking the loss to fall to 3-7.
Analysis: That's more like it for Eaton, who entered with a 3.75 ERA over his last two starts. The hard-throwing right-hander has never lived up to his potential and has gotten progressively worse over his career. His season ERA now stands at 5.20, so leave him for NL-only leagues. His next start -- and second of Fantasy Week 15 -- is scheduled for Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton, 0-3 in his last three starts and winless in his last four, picked up a victory Wednesday at Atlanta. He allowed two runs on five hits and five walks in five innings, striking out two.
Analysis: Eaton has a 5.16 ERA over his last five starts, so it's not like he really deserved many wins. He's mediocre at best and doesn't deserve starting status in Fantasy outside of deeper NL-only leagues. He lines up for two starts in Fantasy Week 15 (July 7-13), with the first one scheduled for Monday against the Mets.
News: Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Eaton lost his third consecutive start Thursday against Oakland. Eaton dropped to 0-4 in nine road games, allowing three runs and six hits in six innings. "It would be nice to actually not give up a couple of runs in the first inning," Eaton said. "It's happened in four starts. With what Harden did out there, it's tough not to fall right behind the 8-ball. Harden really had no-hit stuff; he had our number."
Analysis: Eaton hasn't won since going 6 2/3 innings of three-hit ball against Cincinnati back on June 3. He did pitch better Thursday than in his previous outing, but not much better. He deserves to be starting in NL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats at this time and makes his next appearance at Atlanta on Wednesday.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton allowed six runs and 12 hits in five-plus innings Friday against the Angels, ending his streak of five straight quality starts and falling to 2-5. He issued three walks and recorded one strikeout.
Analysis: Eaton had a 3.06 ERA over those previous five starts, so he didn't exactly make hitters look stupid. Still, he pitched well enough to deserve a look again in NL-only leagues, even with this one poor performance. His next start is scheduled for Thursday at Oakland.
News: Philadelphia SP Adam Eaton fell to 2-4 on the season Saturday as he lost to the St. Louis Cardinals. One day after the Phillies scored 20 runs, they only managed two and Eaton suffered the loss though he pitched well. Eaton went six innings, giving up eight hits and three runs, walking one and striking out two. Eaton did get two hits in the game against winning pitcher Kyle Lohse.
Analysis: Eaton doesn't pitch many innings having failed to reach the seventh in all but one of his last eight outings. He won't overpower anyone, but he isn't altogether useless, either. Go ahead and feel free to use him in NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Friday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton didn't factor in the decision Sunday at Atlanta, but he pitched well for the fourth straight start. He allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings, striking out two.
Analysis: Eaton has a 2.81 ERA and his only two wins during that four-start stretch. He's gone through his share of rocky stretches too, but he at least looks better than he did last year when he posted a 6.29 ERA. Feel free to use him in NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Saturday at St. Louis.
News:Adam Eaton pitched 6 2/3 impressive innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 Tuesday night. Eaton (2-3) allowed one run and three hits, outpitching Aaron Harang (2-8). A constant target for boos because he's pitched poorly after signing a free-agent contract before last season, Eaton left to a standing ovation, and tipped his hat to the crowd. Eaton had retired the first six batters before Edwin Encarnacion lined his 10th homer into the left-field seats to lead off the third. He didn't issue a walk and struck out five.
Analysis: Eaton has won consecutive starts after going winless in his first 10. He looks like a totally different pitcher on the mound after a rough open to 2008. He has allowed one run in his last two starts and just 11 earned runs in his last five outings. He might finally be turning the corner in Philadelphia. Still, we like him in NL-only leagues at this time. His next scheduled start is for Sunday against the Braves. Eaton was 1-2 with a 11.20 ERA against Atlanta in 2007.
News:Chase Utley hit his major league-leading 17th homer to help Adam Eaton earn his first win, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies 6-1 Wednesday night to complete a three-game sweep. Eaton (1-3) allowed one run over six innings. He gave up four hits and struck out four in his best outing so far, lowering his ERA to 4.99. The only run Colorado got was on a Todd Helton RBI single in the third. Seth Smith was thrown out at the plate trying to push a second run across.
Analysis: Eaton needed 11 starts to get his first win. Wednesday was also the first time all season he allowed fewer than two runs. Eaton has totaled 13 innings in his last two starts and has a 2.77 ERA in that span. He might finally be turning the corner in Philadelphia. Still, we like him in NL-only leagues at this time. His next scheduled start is for Tuesday against the Reds. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher Fantasy Week 10 (June 2-8) with his second start coming against the Braves.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton allowed two Hunter Pence home runs and eight hits in all to lose for the third time in four starts Friday at Houston. "Obviously, I made a few mistakes," he said. "Those two home runs that Pence got were up and over the plate. If you asked him where he'd like them, he'd probably say right where I threw them." Eaton pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs and one walk while striking out two.
Analysis: Eaton had lasted more than six innings only once this season. He entered with a 6.59 ERA over his last six starts and doesn't look much better than the pitcher who posted a 6.29 ERA in 30 starts last year, despite the decent performance Friday. Leave him for NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Rockies.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton turned in another uninspiring performance Saturday against the Blue Jays after seemingly righting himself in his last start. He allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings to remain winless in nine starts this season, losing for the second time. He struck out three and walked two. "Wrong things happen at the right time," Eaton said.
Analysis: Eaton has a 5.59 ERA overall. He had allowed two earned runs in five innings in his last start at San Francisco, but he more or less looks like the same pitcher who posted a 6.29 ERA in 30 starts last year. Leave him for NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at Houston.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton, who had allowed 15 earned runs in 18 2/3 innings over his last four starts for an ERA of 7.23, looked a little better Sunday at San Francisco. He gave up only two runs in five innings but allowed five hits and five walks. He struck out four.
Analysis: Eaton has had a few good stretches, but he more or less looks like the same pitcher who posted a 6.29 ERA in 30 starts last year. Leave him for NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Saturday against the Blue Jays.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton allowed six runs in four innings Tuesday at Arizona, giving him three poor starts in his last four. He surrendered five hits and three walks, recording one strikeout and falling to 0-1. He allowed two runs in six innings in his last start against the Padres.
Analysis: Counting that one good start, Eaton has allowed 15 earned runs in 18 2/3 innings over his last four starts for an ERA of 7.23. He's more and more looking like the same pitcher who posted a 6.29 ERA in 30 starts last year. Leave him for NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Sunday at San Francisco.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton pitched six string innings in a no decision Thursday against the Padres, one of his former teams. Eaton allowed two runs and five hits. He fell behind in the first inning on a two-run homer by Adrian Gonzalez, but blanked the Padres for the next five innings. He doesn't have a decision in six starts this season. Eaton retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced, including eight in a row.
Analysis: The Padres got Gonzalez and Chris R. Young, who beat the Phillies on Wednesday night, in a trade that sent Eaton to Texas in January 2006. That turned out to be a lopsided deal. Eaton allowed fewer than three earned runs for the first time this season Thursday and has looked much better than he did in 2007 -- his first season in Philadelphia. Still, Eaton remains a NL-only Fantasy SP. His next scheduled start is for Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher Fantasy Week 6 (May 5-11) with his second start coming against the Giants. Both starts are on the road where Eaton has a 4.67 ERA in three starts.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton lasted only 3 2/3 innings Friday at Pittsburgh and was charged with three runs and five hits. He walked two batters and struck out three. He managed to avoid the loss, however, as the Phillies ultimately won 6-5.
Analysis: Eaton allowed three earned runs in his first three starts, going no less than six innings in each. However, he has come back down to earth in recent starts and is looking like a risky Fantasy SP even for NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Thursday against the Padres.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton, who has a 5-0 career mark against the Mets, quickly lost a shutout bid against them in the sixth sixth inning Sunday. Jose B. Reyes hit a leadoff triple and scored on Luis Castillo's RBI single. David Wright doubled and Carlos Beltran's two-RBI single up the middle made it 4-3 and chased Eaton. The right-hander allowed four runs on six hits and a walk in five innings, striking out four.
Analysis: For having a 4.74 ERA, Eaton has pitched surprisingly well this season. He continues to limit hits, work deep into games, and allow no more than three or four runs. Pretty much everyone in the Fantasy-playing community had given up on him after he posted a 6.31 ERA last year, and while he might never develop into a strikeout artist, he looks like a reliable enough pitcher for NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Friday at Pittsburgh.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton was on the hook for a loss Tuesday against the Astros before Philadelphia staged a comeback with a four-run ninth inning, picking up the 4-3 win. Eaton was tagged for seven hits and three runs in six innings. He walked two and struck out three and remains winless in three starts.
Analysis: The bad news is that Eaton's ERA climbed to 4.12 and he is still winless, but the good news is that he has made it to six innings in each of his first three starts and hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any game. He has definitely looked much better than last season, when he posted a 6.29 ERA. If Eaton can sustain a decent ERA, his Fantasy value would skyrocket pitching for a contender like the Phillies. For now, he remains a NL-only Fantasy option. Eaton's next scheduled start is for Sunday against the Mets. He is 5-0 with a 2.90 ERA in eight career starts against the Mets.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton was on the hook for the loss Thursday against the Mets before his team rallied to tie the game at 3 in the eighth inning. Eaton allowed three runs and five hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out five. Eaton didn't allow a run until the fourth inning when New York scored twice. Eaton is winless in two starts this season (0-0) with a 3.95 ERA.
Analysis: Eaton is 5-0 with a 2.90 ERA in eight starts against the Mets, including 4-0 with a 3.08 ERA in six starts at Shea Stadium. Despite not having a win in 2008, he has actually looked a lot better than the guy who posted a 6.29 ERA in 2007. That's always a positive. If Eaton can sustain a decent ERA, his Fantasy value would skyrocket pitching for a contender like the Phillies. For now, he remains a NL-only Fantasy option. Eaton will either pitch next Wednesday against the Astros or be pushed back to a start later in the week against the Mets.
News: Phillies starter Adam Eaton pitched 7 2/3 innings in Saturday's loss at Cincinnati. He did not factor in the final decision and allowed three runs off six hits. He walked four and struck out two in the outing.
Analysis: Eaton actually had a one-run lead going into the eighth inning and may have been left in the game just a tad bit too long. Decisions, decisions. Overall, it was a very solid outing against a pretty good offense in a hitter's park. Fantasy owners should be pleased with the overall result and should start to pay him some attention off the waiver wire considering he has a rotation spot on a team that figures to contend all season.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton gave up seven runs -- six earned -- and 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings during Thursday's spring loss to the Tigers. He also walked two and struck out one while his ERA rose to 7.41 and his record went to 0-3. Eaton is a candidate for the final spot in the Phillies rotation and said he wasn't sure if he'd be making the trip north this week. "I made some good pitches but I have no idea," Eaton said. "If I am in Cincinnati next Saturday when it's my turn to pitch, I will know I made the team."
Analysis: Phillies manager Charlie Manuel was also noncommittal Thursday. "I won't know until we get there," Manuel said. "Next Saturday is a long way off." Eaton continues to be a free-agent bust for the Phillies, but unless they can trade him, he just makes too much money to sit. Eaton remains a risky NL-only Fantasy option for Week 1 (March 25-April 6). Eaton earned a no-decision and a 7.50 ERA in his lone start against the Reds in 2007.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that SP Adam Eaton will be the fifth Phillies starter to begin the season. "He's had it all along, really," manager Charlie Manuel said. "I haven't seen anybody take it away from him."
Analysis: Despite this news, Eaton's injury risk and general inconsistency make him a high-risk option best left for the deepest of leagues. Anyone getting starts for the Phillies is intriguing, but Eaton has proven unworthy of Fantasy owners' trust.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton allowed one run and pitched into the sixth inning Friday at the Twins. Eaton, trying to secure his spot as the team's fifth starter, struck out four without a walk and gave up four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He has been bothered by a sore back, but said he is on track after lowering his spring ERA to 5.85. That mark was at 9.00 after his third exhibition start. "The trainers are staying on top of it," Eaton said. "It feels good."
Analysis: Even if Eaton does claim the job, his injury risk and general inconsistency makes him a high-risk option best left for the deepest of leagues. Anyone getting starts for the Phillies is intriguing, but Eaton has proven unworthy of Fantasy owners' trust.
News:Adam Eaton, competing for the fifth spot in the Phillies' rotation, originally was supposed to pitch Thursday against the Pirates. He will start at Minnesota on Friday.
Analysis: Eaton, pitching in a bad home park for pitchers, is a high-risk option best lest for the deepest of leagues. Anyone getting starts for the Phillies is intriguing, but Eaton has proven to not be worthy of a Fantasy owner's trust.
News: The Twins' 11-2 win Saturday spoiled the impressive return of Phillies SP Adam Eaton. Pitching for the first time in nine days, Eaton struck out two and walked none in three scoreless innings. The right-hander, who entered the game with a 15.75 ERA this spring, was diagnosed with a slight herniated disc in his back last Sunday. "It felt good to get out there and feel good, not only body-wise, but stuff-wise -- the two go hand in hand," Eaton said. "I didn't have to compensate for anything -- the back felt great, the arm felt great."
Analysis: Eaton had his best start of the spring coming off a potentially devastating injury. It looks as though he has committed himself to pitching well after such a disappointing 2007 campaign. Eaton should have a starting rotation spot heading into the regular season, as long as his back holds up. Consider him an injury-risk NL-only option.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton (back) threw a bullpen session Wednesday and is set to pitch in a minor league game Friday. Eaton also had a successful bullpen session Monday.
Analysis: Eaton complained of back pain after his most recent start on Thursday, when he gave up four runs and five hits in two innings of a 6-4 loss to Tampa Bay. He has allowed seven runs and 10 hits in two starts this spring for a 15.75 ERA. Eaton, signed as a free agent by the Phillies before last season, is confident he will be ready for opening day. He's getting paid too much not to win a job this spring, but he's a risky NL-only Fantasy option based on the numbers he put up last year and this latest injury news.
News: MLB.com reports Phillies SP Adam Eaton, who found out Sunday he has a small herniated disk and slight arthritis in his balky back, said he felt fine after his 41-pitch bullpen session Monday. "I was able to get extension down and away," Eaton said. "The (slight disk herniation) is going to be there, but I was able to get loose and stay loose." Eaton will pitch again Wednesday and then work in a game Saturday.
"I don't see why not. We're just kind of taking precautions now to not (aggravate) it," said Eaton, who was 10-10 with a 6.29 ERA in 2007. "I've been doing stuff the last couple of weeks to be ready. I don't have any thoughts on why I shouldn't be ready." He's getting paid too much not to win a job this spring, but he's a risky NL-only Fantasy option based on the numbers he put up last year and this latest injury news.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton has a small herniated disk and slight arthritis in his balky back. The 30-year-old right-hander had an MRI and CT scan on Saturday, and the results came back Sunday. "The most important thing to know about that is it's not pressing against the nerve root, which is really what your concern is," Phillies trainer Scott Sheridan said Sunday. "All of his symptoms are centrally located in his back. He has long-tossed the last two days and he's going to try to throw a bullpen tomorrow."
Analysis: Eaton complained of back pain after his most recent start on Thursday, when he gave up four runs and five hits in two innings of a 6-4 loss to Tampa Bay. News: Philadelphia starter Adam Eaton failed to overcome back problems and struggled in his second straight outing and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Phillies 6-4 Thursday in a rain-shortened, five-inning game. Akinori Iwamura led off the game with a home run and the Rays scored three times on four hits in the first inning. Eaton gave up four runs and five hits in two innings. He's now allowed seven runs and 10 hits for a 15.75 ERA after a pair of starts.
Analysis: Eaton has complained of a balky back this spring, and it acted up again before Thursday's start. "I would be a little more frustrated if it was due to lack of preparation or something like that," Eaton said. "Obviously, I didn't make good pitches, but at the same time my back did act up a little bit and I didn't get good extension on anything." Eaton drew the ire of Phillies fans last season when he posted a 6.29 ERA after signing a three-year, $24.5 million deal. Fantasy owners also were victims after a big season was expected of Eaton. He's getting paid too much not to win a job this spring, but is a risky NL-only Fantasy option.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Adam Eaton's troublesome shoulder felt fine after throwing about 30 pitches against the Yankees on Saturday. However, his back continues to give him issues. "It doesn't feel so good at times, but it feels OK when I wake up," the right hander said. "We're working on it, and it's getting better."
Analysis: Signed to a $24.5 million, three-year free-agent deal last offseason, Eaton was a bust in 2007, going 10-10 with a 6.29 ERA in 30 starts. Let him go undrafted in all but the deepest of NL-only leagues.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton, trying to hang on to a rotation spot this spring, allowed a three-run homer to Shelley Duncan in the first inning Saturday against the Yankees. "Three pitches in a row -- single, single, homer. Only one of those was where I wanted it, and it wasn't the home run pitch," said Eaton. In two innings, he allowed a total of five hits and recorded two strikeouts.
Analysis: Signed to a $24.5 million, three-year free-agent deal last offseason, Eaton was a bust last year, going 10-10 with a 6.29 ERA in 30 starts. Looks like more of the same so far. He once had upside, but barring a miracle of sorts, he likely won't capitalize on it at this stage of his career. Let him go undrafted in all but the deepest of NL-only leagues.
News: Despite Adam Eaton's big contract, the Phillies can't afford to pitch him in the playoffs. Eaton was left off Philadelphia's postseason roster for their first round-series against Colorado. The Phillies will use a four-man rotation, so Eaton didn't make the cut. "It's the best case for the team," Eaton said Tuesday. Eaton has made just two relief appearances in his eight-year career, so using him that way wasn't an option. "I had two bullpen appearances in '05 coming back from an injury and those didn't go well," Eaton said. "To throw in the emotion of the postseason and a situation you haven't been in before is a little tough for anybody. I would've done it if they asked me, but that wasn't in the cards."
Analysis: Signed to a $24.5 million, three-year free-agent deal last offseason, Eaton was a bust. He was 10-10 with a 6.29 ERA in 30 starts. In his last 10 outings, the right-hander was 1-4 with a 7.36 ERA. "Because of the way others have performed, he's the odd man out," general manager Pat Gillick said. Eaton and extra outfielder Chris Roberson will stay with the team as extras in case of injuries. Final rosters are due 10 a.m. EDT Wednesday, so the Phillies can still make changes. From a Fantasy perspective, Eaton is not someone to consider in 2008 outside of NL-only formats.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton (10-10) lasted just 2 1/3 innings Saturday against the Nationals, allowing one run, five hits and two walks in probably his last appearance of the season. He took the loss, dropping the Phillies back into a tie with the Mets for the lead in the NL East.
Analysis: Eaton has a 6.29 ERA, and the Phillies would likely leave him off the postseason roster if they advance. Then again, they started him while clinging to a one-game lead, so who knows anymore? We do know this: don't draft Eaton in 2008. He's essentially lost all Fantasy value since leaving the Padres in 2005.
News: Struggling right-hander Adam Eaton (10-9, 6.33) didn't lose his turn in the rotation this week, but he will be pushed back to Saturday against the Nationals instead of staying on his regular turn and facing the Braves. Ace Cole Hamels will stay on course and pitch on four days' rest Friday night. If there's a one-game playoff next Monday, Kyle Lohse would be in line to start.
Analysis: Eaton is nothing more than a high-risk starter for the deepest of NL-only leagues and that's also considering the potentially potent Phillies lineup getting him all that run support.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton hasn't been told when he'll make his next start, but the Phillies appear to be leaning toward starting the struggling right-hander Friday or Saturday against the Nationals rather than Thursday against the Braves, reports The Sports Xchange. Eaton is 1-2 with an 11.20 ERA in three starts this season against Atlanta compared to 1-0 with a 5.71 ERA in three starts against Washington.
Analysis: Oh, yes. Because that sizzling 5.71 ERA against the Nationals makes Eaton a one-start dynamo. Really, the Phillies are picking between bad and worse for a guy with 6.33 overall ERA this season. Eaton has lost all Fantasy value since leaving the Padres after the 2005 season. Only consider him in the deepest of NL-only leagues for his final start in 2007.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton got his first victory since July 20, ending a streak of eight winless decisions, Friday against the Nationals. He labored early, but the only run he allowed through four innings came on a first-inning bases loaded walk to Austin Kearns. He gave up two more in the fifth on Robert Fick's bases-loaded single and was gone after walking pinch hitter D'Angelo Jimenez on four pitches to start the sixth. Eaton walked five and allowed five hits over five innings on a night when the Phillies needed him to eat up innings. Philadelphia's relievers pitched seven innings in Thursday's game.
Analysis: Eaton struck out two Friday while putting an end to a very nasty winless streak. He has allowed three or fewer earned runs just twice in his last night starts. It just goes to show you the disappointing season Eaton has had with the Phillies. He is nothing more than a low-end NL-only Fantasy option. His next scheduled start will likely come against the Braves during Fantasy Week 26 (Sept. 24-30).
News: Geoff Geary (3-2) pitched two innings in relief Sunday of Adam Eaton to earn the win for Philadelphia, which has won six straight at Shea Stadium.
Analysis: Geary is nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of NL-only leagues that use true middle men. Eaton has been one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball in this season and his lone redeeming feature is his potential for run support from the potent Phillies lineup.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton took the loss against the Rockies on Tuesday to drop to 9-9. He pitched five innings, surrendering four runs, six hits and two walks. He struck out six. He has now gone 2-5 with a 7.20 ERA in 14 starts since June 11 and has a 6.31 ERA overall.
Analysis: Do you still have this guy? If so, shame on you. He's had a terrible season and, now at age 29, probably won't ever achieve the high standards once expected of him. He's a liability even to NL-only leagues.
News: RHP John Ennis will start Saturday and the struggling Adam Eaton will be pushed back to Tuesday against Colorado, so he can face the Mets next weekend.
Analysis: Eaton has been successful against New York, even though he has a 6.28 ERA. Ennis will become the 13th different starting pitcher used by the Phillies this season. He picks up two-start status for Week 24 (Sept. 10-16), so get him active in NL-only leagues.
News: Phillies starter Adam Eaton allowed five runs in six innings Sunday afternoon at Florida, but did not factor in the final decision. He struck out five and walked one.
Analysis: Eaton hit his first homer since 2003 in the game, but Fantasy owners weren't helped by that. The three home runs he gave up sure did hurt them, though. He is at best an NL-only Fantasy option at this time.
News: Making his first start since Aug. 11 because of a sore right shoulder, Adam Eaton's 5 2/3 innings in Tuesday's start against the Mets was actually his longest outing since a late July start. He still hasn't won since July 20th and has pitched beyond the sixth inning only once in his past seven starts.
Analysis: Eaton gave up five hits and lowered his abysmal 6.36 ERA -- the highest in the majors -- to 6.23. He'll get a second start in Fantasy Week 22 (Aug. 27-Sept. 2), working against another struggling pitcher in Florida's Scott Olsen on Sunday.
News: RHP Adam Eaton (sore right shoulder) said he would make Tuesday's start against the New York Mets. "As far as I know, that's the plan," Eaton said. Manuel said that he would talk to pitching coach Rich Dubee about Eaton's status for Tuesday.
Analysis: Eaton is slated to be activated in time to start Tuesday night against the New York Mets. Fantasy owners should start Eaton at their own risk upon his return. In 24 starts for the Phillies, Eaton has allowed 20 first-inning runs and opponents are batting .361 against him in the first inning. He is at best an NL-only Fantasy option.
News: RHP Adam Eaton's first-inning troubles continued Friday night, even though he was pitching for Double-A Reading. Eaton, making a 37-pitch rehab start as he recovers from right shoulder inflammation, allowed two runs in the first inning against Altoona, the Pittsburgh Pirates' affiliate. The first four batters reached base against Eaton, who tossed a scoreless second inning before leaving the game.
Analysis: In 24 starts for the Phillies, Eaton has allowed 20 first-inning runs and opponents are batting .361 against him in the first inning. Eaton is slated to be activated in time to start Tuesday night against the New York Mets. Fantasy owners should start Eaton at their own risk upon his return.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton, on the DL with a shoulder strain, is scheduled to throw 40 pitches in a rehab start for Double-A Reading on Friday night. If all goes well, Eaton could start early next week against the New York Mets. "It's feeling better," Eaton said.
Analysis: Eaton is ahead of schedule and might have the chance to return before September. He is nothing more than high-risk NL-only starter option anyway.
News: Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino (calf) could rejoin the team Wednesday; OF Michael Bourn (ankle) might be back in two-to-three weeks; LHP Mike Zagurski (hamstring) is likely out for the season; RHP Ryan Madson (shoulder) might return for the final week of the season; and RHP Adam Eaton (shoulder) will throw in a bullpen session Wednesday. "It's been a very freak season," manager Charlie Manuel said.
Analysis: Eaton is out until at least early to mid-September at this point. He was struggling and nothing more than high-risk NL-only starter option anyway. Consider him a cut in any league you don't have reserve or DL space.
News: The Phillies placed Adam Eaton (right shoulder inflammation) on 15-day DL and called up Mike Zagurski from Triple-A. Eaton's rotation replacement has not been named.
Analysis: Eaton is out until at least early to mid-September at this point. He was struggling and nothing more than high-risk NL-only starter option anyway. Consider him a cut in any league you don't have reserve or DL space.
News: Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel is unsure about whether right-hander Adam Eaton (9-8, 6.36 ERA) will make Friday's scheduled start at Pittsburgh opposite probable starter Tom Gorzelanny (11-6, 3.29 ERA).
Analysis: In his past four starts, he's allowed 16 runs in 12 2/3 innings. To make matters worse, Eaton is 2-1 with an abysmal 9.74 ERA in six games against the Pirates in his career. Still far clear of him in all Fantasy leagues whether he makes this start or not.
News: Despite his recent struggles, Adam Eaton is slated to start Friday. Eaton, who signed a three-year, $24.5 million free-agent deal, has the highest ERA in the NL at 6.36.
Analysis: Eaton is a high-risk starter for the deepest of NL-only leagues at this point. We say this even with the potent Phillies offense.
News: The Braves were the latest team to tee off on Phillies starter Adam Eaton, who continues to be a huge disappointment in the first year of a $24.5 million, three-year contract. Eaton failed to get out of the fourth inning Saturday -- giving up a pair of homers, six runs and eight hits -- while his NL-worst ERA swelled to 6.36. He struck out just one and lost for the second time in three starts.
Analysis: Manager Charlie Manuel said before Saturday's game that Eaton (9-8) needed to start pitching deep into games if the Phillies are to have a chance at making the playoffs. While Manuel stopped short of saying Eaton could get bumped from the rotation, this outing couldn't have helped his cause. Eaton is much better than his stats show, but consider him a risky start on a week-to-week basis in all Fantasy leagues. His next scheduled start is for Friday against the Pirates -- a matchup he has a chance to win.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton gave up four of the six runs he allowed in the first inning en route to surrendering nine hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings. He took a no-decision Sunday against the Brewers, but was on the hook for the loss before a five-run rally in the ninth. He struck out three. Eaton has allowed four or more runs in five of his last six starts.
Analysis: It is becoming quite clear that the Phillies overpaid for Eaton in the offseason. The oft-injured righty does have nine wins, but also has a whopping 6.09 ERA. He is much better than his stats show, but consider him a risky start on a week-to-week basis in all Fantasy leagues. His next scheduled start is for Saturday against the Braves.
News: Phillies starter Adam Eaton (9-7) pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, and eight hits Tuesday. He had two strikeouts and walked two. "I just kind of got in my way a little bit in the first and sixth innings," Eaton said.
Analysis: Eaton is just 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in the second half. He is much better than he is pitching, but consider him a risky start on a week-to-week basis in all Fantasy leagues.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton allowed eight hits and four runs in 6 1/3 innings Thursday against the Nationals but did not factor into the decision. He issued no walks and struck out two. Eaton has allowed four or more earned runs in three of his last four starts.
Analysis: Eaton continues to struggle in his first year with the Phillies. Just look at Thursday's start. He struggled against the Nationals. His ERA stands at a disappointing 5.83. His Fantasy value is limited to larger NL-only leagues. His next scheduled start is for Tuesday against the Cubs. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher during Fantasy Week 18 (July 30-Aug. 5).
News: Adam Eaton had an eventful return to San Diego. The right-hander collided with an umpire, hit an RBI single and beat his old team, in a win over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. Eaton and second base umpire Chris Guccione collided as they converged on third base, and the two ended up in a heap as Milton Bradley slid in safely. A trainer came out to check on Eaton's right shoulder. Eaton got a few warmup pitches, remained in the game and retired the side. "My job there is to be the cutoff guy," he said. "I was late. I was being a spectator on the play. There was no excuse for it, other than the fact that I was praying for a foul ball." Eaton (9-6) came in with a 5.98 ERA but held the Padres to two runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Analysis: It was Eaton's first start at Petco Park since the Padres traded him to Texas on Jan. 4, 2006, in a six-player deal that brought All-Star Chris Young and Adrian Gonzalez to San Diego. After missing much of last season with a finger injury, Eaton signed a $24.5 million, three-year contract with Philadelphia. He'll start again on Thursday against Washington. His ERA is brutal, but with this offense backing him, he is a decent source of wins.
News: Question: Who started and was beaten in the 10,000th loss by the Philadelphia Phillies? Answer: Adam Eaton. He was pounded for six earned runs and 10 hits in four shaky innings against the Cardinals on Sunday to fall to 8-6.
Analysis: Eaton also saw his ERA rise to 5.98 after the abysmal 69-pitch inning in which he allowed two home runs. Eaton is only worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues heading into Fantasy Week 16 (July 16-22), when he'll face his former team, the San Diego Padres.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton won for the first time since June 11, going six innings and giving up four runs and eight hits during Sunday's win over the Rockies. He also struck out three. Eaton allowed a total of 17 earned runs in his previous four starts.
Analysis: Eaton remains a very erratic Fantasy option, but is useful on weeks when he faces favorable matchups or two starts. He might make a start next Sunday against the Cardinals, but Fantasy owners should check up on his status before setting lineups for Fantasy Week 15 (July 9-15).
News: Phillies starter Adam Eaton allowed four hits in six innings in a no decision at Houston and matched a season-high with seven strikeouts.
Analysis: Eaton remains a very erratic Fantasy option, but is useful on weeks when he faces favorable matchups or two starts. He'll get a second start over the weekend at Colorado.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton pitched six innings Thursday against the Reds, but did not factor into the decision as the game went into extra innings. He allowed six hits, three walks and five earned runs, while striking out two. He has now allowed 11 earned runs and 14 hits in his last two starts. He hasn't tasted victory since June 11.
Analysis: Eaton continues to be an unimpressive pitcher on most occasions, lending his talents to larger NL-only leagues at this time. His next scheduled start is for Tuesday against the Astros.
News: Adam Eaton (7-5) allowed six earned runs on eight hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings in a loss at St. Louis Saturday. "He made some mistakes and got hurt," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "Crooked numbers will hurt you. He usually pitches good games."
Analysis: Eaton allowed two homers, as many as he'd given up in his first four starts this month combined. "Those two pitches were a couple I'd like to have back," Eaton said. Eaton fell to 15-7 for his career against the NL Central. He is still a viable candidate in NL-only leagues. His next scheduled start is for Thursday against the Reds.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton was cruising along to his eighth win of the season during Sunday's start against the Tigers, but a five-run seventh inning earned him a no-decision. Brandon Inge doubled and pinch-hitter Carlos Guillen singled off Eaton with one out in the seventh. Eaton was pulled for Geoff Geary, who gave up the run-scoring single to Gary Sheffield. Geary was out and Mike Zagurski was in. He retired pinch-hitter Omar Infante on a grounder that advanced the runners to second and third. Exit Zagurski, enter Yoel Hernandez. He walked Placido Polanco to load the bases, then Craig Monroe knocked a full-count pitch off Nunez's glove for a two-RBI single. Ordonez lined a pitch to right for his major-league best 33rd double and a 6-3 lead. Eaton's win disappeared.
Analysis: Eaton was charged with six hits, three runs and two walks in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out two. Eaton came into the game, winner of three of his last four starts. He still sports a high ERA (5.33) and that should keep away most mixed league owners. He is still a viable candidate in NL-only leagues. His next scheduled start is for Saturday against the Cardinals.
News: Adam Eaton (7-4) pitched seven scoreless innings in Monday's start against the White Sox, allowing four hits and three walks with five strikeouts. "Maybe the bullpen kind of appreciated me going out and pitching deeper in the game," Eaton said.
Analysis: Eaton will get a chance for his second win in Fantasy Week 11 (June 11-17) over the weekend against the Tigers. Despite the impressive outing, his Fantasy value remains limited to NL-only formats at this point.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton continued his dominance over the Mets during Wednesday's win. He pitched six innings, allowing five hits, two walks and two earned runs. He also had four strikeouts. In five career starts against New York, Eaton is 5-0 with a 1.98 ERA. He is 2-0 against the Mets this season.
Analysis: Eaton probably wishes he could face the Mets every outing. If that happened, he might just win the Cy Young. Unfortunately that doesn't happen and Eaton remains just a NL-only Fantasy option. His next scheduled start is for Monday against the White Sox. He is also in line to make two starts during Fantasy Week 11 (June 11-17).
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton lasted just two innings during Friday's 13-0 loss to the Giants. He allowed six hits, four walks and five earned runs, while striking out just one. This start coming on the heels of a personal two-game winning streak for Eaton.
Analysis: Just when it looked like Eaton was making some progress, Friday has come and gone. Eaton is still too of an inconsistent Fantasy option to be used outside of the largest NL-only leagues. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Mets.
News: Adam Eaton (5-3) gave up six hits and four runs in six innings at Atlanta Saturday. He walked three batters and had only one strikeout in winning his second straight start.
Analysis: Eaton's ERA is still a dangerous 5.73, but he'll get the Giants in Philadelphia next Friday, so keep him active in NL-only leagues.
News: Adam Eaton pitched four-hit ball over six-plus shutout innings to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Eaton (4-3) had his second straight solid outing at home, finally showing signs of living up to the $24.5 million, three-year contract the Phillies gave him in the offseason. After he failed to get out of the fifth inning in two of his first three home starts, Eaton has pitched into the seventh in each of his last two home outings. He wasn't particularly sharp in this one -- walking five, striking out two -- but was backed by a pair of double plays and a caught stealing to erase some early baserunners.
Analysis: Eaton might finally be turning the corner in Philly, allowing just four earned runs combined in his last three starts. Let's not break out the champagne just yet. Treat Eaton as a NL-only option at this time. His next scheduled start is for Saturday against the Braves.
News: SP Adam Eaton allowed two runs -- one earned -- and four hits in 7 2/3 innings in his best outing Tuesday against the Brewers since the Phillies gave him a $24.5 million, three-year contract in the offseason. Eaton came in with a 9.72 ERA in three starts at home, but left to a standing ovation after Prince Fielder's solo shot to right field cut it to 3-2 in the eighth. He also walked two, while striking out five.
Analysis: Eaton has settled down in his last two starts, allowing just four earned runs in 14 2/3 innings. Better than when he allowed 13 earned runs in 9 1/3 innings in his prior two starts. Eaton is still far from being a Fantasy ace, but he could be on the right path. Continue to use him in NL-only formats at this time. His next scheduled start is for Sunday against the Blue Jays.
News: Eaton kept his team close in Tuesday's game at Arizona, allowing three runs and seven hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out four. "I made some good pitches when I needed to and some not-so-good pitches when I needed to make good pitches," Eaton said.
Analysis: Eaton, who entered with an 8.81 ERA, allowed fewer than four earned runs for only the second time in seven starts. He will be a two-start pitcher in Fantasy Week 7 (May 14-20), facing Dave Bush and the Brewers on Monday at home and the Blue Jays in interleague play over the weekend.
News: The Phillies will start Adam Eaton (3-2, 8.18) at Arizona Tuesday. He allowed six runs in five innings on Thursday but still earned a 9-7 win over San Francisco. The right-hander, who signed a 3-year, $24.5 million deal with the Phillies in the offseason, has allowed 21 runs in 21 1-3 innings over his last four starts and owns the worst ERA in the majors among qualifying pitchers.
Analysis: "He had a tough six innings," Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said. "He has the stuff but he has trouble getting out of jams. I think the biggest problem is for him to make a few more quality pitches." Eaton is 3-3 with a 3.79 ERA in 12 career starts against the Diamondbacks. Eaton can be inconsistent at times, but he's a nice starter in NL-only play.
News: Adam Eaton (3-2) allowed six runs and eight hits over five-plus innings but still managed to beat the Giants for the first time since June 7, 2001, when he was with San Diego. He was 0-4 in 10 starts against San Francisco until Thursday.
Analysis: Eaton walked three and struck out five. He will be a two-start pitcher in Fantasy Week 6 (May 7-13) and a must-start in all NL-only formats.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton allowed seven runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings during Saturday's loss to the Marlins. The right-hander hasn't lived up to his big contract, posting a 7.71 ERA in five starts. The Phillies gave Eaton a $24.5 million, 3-year deal, even though he'd never won more than 11 games in a season. "It's frustrating, definitely not a good game for me," said Eaton, who also allowed three walks while striking out four Saturday. "I just didn't pitch well."
Analysis: Eaton has allowed four or more runs in four of five starts, and has allowed seven runs in two starts. Definitely not good numbers for the Phillies back-end starter. He definitely should not be used in mixed leagues and NL-only owners should only use him when the matchups are right. His next scheduled start is for Thursday against the Giants.
News: Adam Eaton (2-1) gave up four runs and six hits in the first three innings on Monday against Houston, then didn't allow another run in the next three innings. Eaton struck out seven and was chased after he walked pinch-hitter Morgan Ensberg opening the seventh.
Analysis: Eaton will look for better results in his Saturday start against Wes Obermueller and the Florida Marlins. He might be in line for a two-win week for his Fantasy owners.
News: RHP Adam Eaton was hit on his right pinkie by a batted ball at Washington Wednesday, but he stayed in the game. He allowed four earned runs on four hits in six innings.
Analysis: Eaton gets two home starts in Week 4 (April 23-29) against the Astros and Marlins. Get him active in mixed leagues for his two-start week.
News: Sunday's rainout likely pushes Freddy Garcia's (biceps) rotation return to Monday vs. the Mets, according to MLB.com. Adam Eaton, Jamie Moyer, Brett Myers and Cole Hamels will slide back a day.
Analysis: Garcia and Eaton are potential two-start pitchers for Fantasy Week 3 (April 16-22). Use them in deeper leagues. Myers and Hamels remain solid one-starters, while Moyer is always a risk -- even in deeper leagues.
News: Adam Eaton pitched seven steady innings and the Philadelphia Phillies walked their way to their second victory of the season, beating the New York Mets 5-2 on Wednesday night. Eaton (1-1) allowed four hits, two runs and three walks in his first win with the Phillies. He also had five strikeouts.
Analysis: Signed to a $24.5 million, three-year contract in the offseason, Eaton was tagged for eight runs -- seven earned -- and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings during his first outing of the year against Atlanta. Eaton has always enjoyed facing the Mets. He improved to 4-0 with a 1.67 ERA in four career starts against New York. Eaton is set to face the Mets again on Monday, so he is probably worth using as a low-end Fantasy option in most formats. He is also slated for another start on April 22 against the Reds, making him a probable two-start pitcher for Fantasy Week 3 (April 16-22).
News: SP Adam Eaton (0-1) was roughed up in his first start Thursday since signing a $24.5 million, three-year contract with the Phillies, who selected him in the first round of the 1996 amateur draft and traded him to San Diego four years later. The right-hander allowed eight runs - seven earned - and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Braves. He also had three strikeouts.
Analysis: Eaton has never had a sub-4.00 ERA in his career, so don't think the move to a hitter's park will help him in that category. There is still some potential there for him to succeed on a contender, so he is worth a flier in larger mixed and NL-only leagues. Eaton's next start is scheduled for April 11 against the Mets. It is not looking like a good matchup for him.
News: RHP Adam Eaton makes his Phillies debut Thursday, 11 years after the team selected him in the first round of the amateur draft. Eaton was traded to San Diego before throwing a pitch for the Phillies and returned in the offseason, signing a three-year, $24.5 million contract. He struggled in spring training, but manager Charlie Manuel is confident Eaton will be fine. "From what I've seen, his stuff is there and his arm is there," Manuel said. "He has to do a better job with his command."
Analysis: The Phillies bought a talented but chronically injured starter. The 29-year-old had reconstructive elbow surgery in July 2001 and didn't return until the following September. He then missed several starts in '05 with a strained middle finger and didn't make his first start with Texas last season until late July because of the same finger injury. The injuries make him a risk, but he is an underachiever who can win double-digit games for a top offensive contender like the Phillies ... if he can stay healthy for a 30-start season.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton finished spring training with a 0-3 record after he took the loss during Saturday's game against the Red Sox. He allowed eight hits, two walks and six runs in three innings of work. He finished spring with a 7.91 ERA.

He then missed several starts in '05 with a strained middle finger and didn't make his first start with Texas last season until late July because of the same finger injury. He has not looked good this spring, but the Phillies are slotting him in at the back end of the rotation. Consider him a low-end Fantasy SP heading into the season.
News: Phillies SP Adam Eaton, who recently was named the team's fifth starter, was hit hard during Saturday's spring game against the Reds. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, five runs, two homers and three walks. He did have three strikeouts. He is now 0-2 with a 6.06 ERA in 16 1/3 spring innings.

News: Adam Eaton finished another outing, answered more questions about moving to the bullpen and went home still in the rotation. Eaton struggled over five innings in the Philadelphia Phillies' 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. Eaton, who signed a three-year, $24.5 million free-agent deal in the offseason, is asked almost daily whether he would consider becoming a reliever because the Phillies have six starters. Eaton allowed three runs and eight hits against the Pirates, raising his ERA to 4.63 this spring. "They haven't talked to me about being a reliever, so I'm still a starter as far as I know," he said. "I guess it's between Jon (Lieber) and I. Things are still going to shake out."

News: Phillies RHP Adam Eaton has been a starting pitcher throughout his career, so the notion of possibly shifting to the bullpen seems a bit unsettling. But that's exactly what may happen if the Phillies aren't able to trade a starter before the season opens. "I was brought in to be a starting pitcher, and I'd like to be a starting pitcher somewhere," said Eaton, who signed a three-year, $24.5 million free agent contract. "I'll do whatever, but I'm pretty sure they signed me here as a free agent starting pitcher, not a free agent reliever, especially with the money I'm making."

News: Philadelphia starter Adam Eaton allowed only one hit and struck out two in three innings Saturday vs. Boston in Fort Myers, Fla.
Analysis: Eaton has pitched only 115 innings since mid-June 2005. He opened that season with a 9-1 record and 3.18 ERA for the Padres, but the finger problem flared and caused him to miss six weeks. San Diego traded Eaton to Texas before last season, and the injury, initially diagnosed by the Padres as a strain, worsened in spring training when he tore the tendon in his final tune-up start. But Eaton believes his injury-filled past is behind him. The injuries make him a risk on Draft Day, but he is an underachiever who will win double-digit games for a top offensive contender like the Phillies ... if he can stay healthy for a 30-start season.
News: Cole Hamels and Jamie Moyer probably won't pitch consecutively because they're the two left-handers. It's possible Freddy Garcia and Brett Myers, two hard-throwing right-handers, will be broken up by Hamels. "I want to be able to throw different looks at people and I think we can do that," manager Charlie Manuel said. "That's something we'll talk about. We have different type pitchers."
Analysis: The Fantasy ranking for the Phillies starters goes Myers, Hamels, Garcia, Eaton, Moyer and then Jon Lieber -- and that's how they will line up at this point (with Lieber out of the mix). Hamels has the most long-term potential, but you have to think he will be hard-pressed to go past 180 innings in his first full big-league season -- especially when you consider his past injury woes and his inability to make it through a full season healthy until last year.
News: The way Adam Eaton sees it, if he'd been healthy during the first half of last season, the Rangers may have reached the playoffs. But a torn tendon in his right middle finger sidelined him until July 25, and Texas finished 13 games off the pace in the American League West. And while it's no consolation in Texas, Eaton plans to make up for lost time with the Phillies. "If I stay healthy, I'm fine," Eaton said during the Phillies' annual caravan of hot-stove events. "The good thing is, after the last two years, my shoulder and elbow have been taxed hardly at all." The oft-injured right-hander said he's ready to open the season in the starting rotation.

News: Pitcher Adam Eaton and the Phillies finalized a $24.5 million, three-year contract Thursday. A first-round pick by the Phillies in 1996, Eaton is 54-45 with a 4.40 ERA in seven major league seasons. He has been on the DL six times in his career, but the Phillies are banking on the right-hander to fill out their rotation. Eaton, who turned 29 on Thanksgiving, was 7-4 with a 5.12 ERA in 13 starts in his only season with Texas, making $4.65 million. He won 11 games in consecutive seasons with San Diego before he was traded to the Rangers last December. Eaton solidifies a promising rotation that includes Brett Myers (12-7, 3.91 ERA), Cole Hamels (9-8, 4.08), Jon Lieber (9-11, 4.93) and Jamie Moyer (11-14, 4.30 with the Phillies and Seattle). "He stabilizes our rotation and will complement the rest of our staff nicely," GM Pat Gillick said.

News: Adam Eaton and the Phillies reached a preliminary agreement on a $24 million, three-year contract. The deal is contingent on the right-hander passing a physical, according to the official. Eaton's contract includes a mutual option for a fourth year that could make the deal worth more than $33 million, according to ESPN.com. Analysis: A total of 89 players have filed since the World Series from a potential free-agent class of about 200. Players can file through Nov. 11, and free agents can talk money with all teams beginning the following day. Track their offseason destinations before finalizing a judgment on their Fantasy value for 2007.
News: The Rangers have some significant free agents: outfielders Gary Matthews Jr. and Carlos Lee, catcher Rod Barajas, infielder Mark DeRosa and starting pitchers Vicente Padilla and Adam Eaton.
Analysis: Track their offseason destinations before finalizing a judgment on their Fantasy value. All of them will be viable additions in mixed leagues, with the slugger Lee certainly being an early rounder.
News: Adam Eaton (7-4) will start Thursday's series finale. He is 4-0 in his last five starts with a 4.40 ERA.
Analysis: Eaton is 2-1 with a 5.65 ERA in three previous starts against the Angels this season. Eaton is a decent option in AL-only leagues, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team.
News: SP Adam Eaton (7-4) won his fourth straight decision over five starts as the Rangers won 12-4 Friday. Eaton, who missed the first 3 1/2 months of the season after surgery on the middle finger of his pitching hand, gave up three runs and 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Analysis: Eaton is a decent option in AL-only leagues, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team unless he has two favorable matchups in a particular scoring period.
News: Adam Eaton (6-4) gave up four runs and 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings in a win on Saturday against the Angels.

News: Adam Eaton allowed two runs on eight hits with five Ks over six innings in a no-decision on Sunday at Seattle.
Analysis: Eaton is a nice option in AL-only leagues, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team unless he has two favorable matchups in a particular scoring period.
News: Rangers SP Adam Eaton, who grew up 30 minutes away in Snohomish, Wash., will pitch Sunday at Seattle in front of approximately 40 friends and family members. "That will be nice for him - to have that many people here to watch him pitch," manager Buck Showalter said. It will be the first time Eaton (5-4, 4.93 ERA) pitches at Safeco Field as an American League player. Eaton, who pitched six seasons in San Diego before being traded in the offseason to Texas, is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA in two interleague starts at Safeco.
Analysis: Eaton is a nice option in AL-only leagues, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team unless he has two favorable matchups in a particular scoring period.
News: Adam Eaton (5-4), who lost to the A's in Arlington on Aug. 26, won for the first time in three road starts on Tuesday against the As. He gave up five hits and four runs, struck out five and walked one in 5 2/3 innings.
Analysis: Eaton is a nice option in AL-only leagues, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team unless he has two favorable matchups in a particular scoring period.
News: Adam Eaton (4-4) had a season-high seven strikeouts in five innings in a win on Thursday against Baltimore. He allowed two runs -- one earned -- on five hits.
Analysis: Eaton is a nice option in AL-only leagues.
News: Adam Eaton felt a burning sensation in his surgically repaired right middle finger during Saturday night's start, but said on Sunday that he feels OK. "It's something you can't really control," Eaton said. "It bothered me at the time, but it's fine now."
Analysis: Eaton has a bullpen session on Monday and is a nice option in AL-only leagues.
News: Adam Eaton (3-4) needed only 11 pitches to get through the first inning Saturday vs. Oakland, but struggled after that. The right-hander was gone after the first four batters in the fourth reached and the A's took a 4-0 lead. He lasted just three innings, allowing four runs off six hits and four walks.
Analysis: Eaton is a nice option in AL-only leagues despite the loss, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team unless he has two favorable matchups in a particular scoring period.
News: Adam Eaton (3-3) allowed four runs on 11 hits with two walks and two Ks over five innings in a loss on Monday against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: He’s a nice option in AL-only leagues despite the loss, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team unless he has two favorable matchups in a particular scoring period.
News: Adam Eaton (3-2) allowed two runs and four hits on Wednesday against the Angels in his fifth start since returning from a torn tendon in his right middle finger that landed him on the disabled list on April 1. He struck out five and walked two on a 101-degree night. Eaton retired 14 straight until a sixth-inning walk to Chone Figgins. Maicer Izturis, who had three RBI, followed with a homer to end Eaton's shutout bid.
Analysis: He’s a nice option in AL-only leagues, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team unless he has two favorable matchups in a particular scoring period.
News: Adam Eaton, who threw only 18 pitches in his start Sunday before being ejected, went six innings on Thursday against Seattle in only his fourth start for the Rangers since coming off the disabled list. He allowed four hits, including a pair of solo homers, and picked up his second win of the season.
Analysis: He’s a nice option in AL-only leagues, but he wouldn’t start for a contending mixed-league team unless he has two favorable matchups in a particular scoring period.
News: Adam Eaton (1-2) retired only two of five batters he faced in Sunday's game at L.A. Angels before plate umpire Rob Drake ejected him for throwing a 90 mph fastball behind Rivera -- one pitch after Garret Anderson's 10th homer of the season. "Rivera's obviously been very comfortable up there for the past month, so I wanted to get him off the plate with a two-seamer and I threw it out of the side of my hand," Eaton said. "[Drake] assumed that I was throwing at Rivera, but I wasn't. I've thrown at one guy my whole career."
Analysis: Eaton might face a possible fine for the incident, but it is unlikely that he will face any suspension. If so, he is certain to appeal the ruling. Despite the shortened outing where he allowed three earned runs, two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning, he remains a must-start in all AL-only leagues.
News: Adam Eaton was ejected from the Texas Rangers' game against the Los Angeles Angels in the first inning Sunday after throwing a pitch behind Juan Rivera - one pitch after Garret Anderson's three-run homer. After Eaton's 18th pitch, a 90 mph fastball, Rivera made a move to the mound and was grabbed by plate umpire Rob Drake. Anderson's homer was only the second against Eaton in his last 55 appearances.
Analysis: Eaton has hit three batters in just 10 1/3 innings since being activated. Fantasy owners should worry about a possible suspension at some point, but that would do little more than push him back a day. He remains a great start in AL-only play and a worthy mixed-league starter in deeper leagues as well.
News: Adam Eaton (food poisoning) was able to make his start on Tuesday at Minnesota and he was dominant. He worked six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and four walks while striking out four to pick up his first win (1-1) with the quality start.
Analysis: Eaton look a lot better than he did in his Rangers' debut on July 25 against the Yankees. He is a must-start in all AL-only leagues and worth a look in mixed formats if available.
News: The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports that Adam Eaton's stomach ailment that kept him out this weekend has subsided and he will start Tuesday at Minnesota.
Analysis: Eaton gave up three runs in 3 2/3 innings for his Rangers' debut, after coming back from a finger injury last week. Consider him an option if you need a starter in AL-only formats at this point.
News: RHP Adam Eaton missed his scheduled start Sunday because of a stomach virus, not food poisoning. Eaton said he felt better after getting medication then sleeping most of Saturday and until about noon Sunday. The Rangers pushed him back to Tuesday, and scheduled rookie LHP John Rheinecker to pitch Monday at Minnesota. "The extra day will be more beneficial," Eaton said.
Analysis: Eaton could be a two-start pitcher, but there is obviously some risk here. Consider him an option if you need a starter in AL-only formats at this point.
News: John Koronka (6-6) will start Sunday night for the Rangers instead of Adam Eaton, who made his season debut Tuesday after recovering from finger surgery. Eaton had a bout of food poisoning Saturday.
Analysis: Eaton will miss a favorable outing against the Royals, although nothing has been favorable for the Rangers lately. They are mired in a six-game losing streak. Keep Eaton reserved in all Fantasy leagues until he can build up his stamina, make a start and prove his health.
News: RHP Adam Eaton said he felt good Wednesday, a day after finally making his Texas debut. "I'm excited about the way I feel," he said. Manager Buck Showalter said Eaton would pitch again Sunday. Eaton allowed one hit over 3 2/3 innings, but walked four and hit two batters. He said it was mechanical problem, not a problem with the surgically repaired middle finger on his pitching hand.
Analysis: Eaton will build up his stamina over the next few starts and should re-emerge as a quality Fantasy starter down the stretch for the Rangers. If he is available in your Fantasy league, pounce on him immediately.
News: Adam Eaton (finger) returned to the rotation for the Rangers on Tuesday after being activated from the 15-day disabled list earlier in the day. He made his season debut against the Yankees and was tagged for three earned runs, four walks and a hit in just 3 2/3 innings. "He was pretty good the first three innings, but he lost command in the fourth," manager Buck Showalter said. "We got a good glimpse of what he's capable of. He was pretty impressive the first three innings."
Analysis: Eaton will build up his stamina over the next few starts and should re-emerge as a quality Fantasy starter down the stretch for the Rangers. If he is available in your Fantasy league, pounce on him immediately.
News: RHP Adam Eaton can't wait until Tuesday night against the Yankees, when he finally makes his Rangers debut. "I'm looking forward to it. I'm anxious for it to start," Eaton said. "You look forward and wonder what's going to happen."
Analysis: Texas got Eaton in a winter trade with San Diego to be its No. 2 starter. He injured the middle finger on his pitching hand during his last spring start, then had surgery. Consider keeping Eaton reserved in AL-only play through this week until he proves he can pitch deep into a game.
News: According to the Dallas Morning News, Adam Eaton made it through a work session Saturday without any issues. Barring any setback, Eaton will join the rotation Tuesday against the New York Yankees.
Analysis: Manager Buck Showalter said as much Saturday, but did not make any decisions about whom Eaton will replace. The candidates are John Rheinecker, John Wasdin or John Koronka. Eaton will slide into the spot that Rheinecker has pitched from. The Rangers could push Rheinecker back to Wednesday or skip him entirely and use Wasdin there.
News: RHP Adam Eaton, who has been on the DL all season with a strained right middle finger, is getting closer to making his 2006 debut after getting in some side work before Saturday's game. Eaton was acquired from San Diego in the offseason and is expected to make his first start for the Rangers on Tuesday or Wednesday at home against the Yankees. "We'll see how Adam feels (on Sunday)," manager Buck Showalter said. "(I have to) make sure he recovers from a work day."
Analysis: Eaton should be ready to go for Fantasy Week 17 (July 24-30) in AL-only formats. Mixed formats should keep him stashed, because his pitch counts won't be maxed out just yet. He might be a five-inning pitcher.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Adam Eaton (finger) will probably start against the Yankees on Tuesday, likely replacing John Rheinecker in the rotation.
Analysis: Eaton completed his medical rehab assignment on Thursday and he'll rejoin the team Friday at Chicago. He threw 77 pitches in four-plus innings for Triple-A Oklahoma. In four rehab starts, he struck out 13 in 12 1/3 innings, with three walks, 10 hits and a 1.46 ERA. "We're hoping that Adam is ready to come back," Rangers manager Buck Showalter. "The plan is that if everything went well, to have him come to Chicago and work for a day with [pitching coach] Mark [Connor]. We'll talk about it." Eaton came over from San Diego in a trade this past winter. The two starts next week will be tempting, but consider him in AL-only play as a reserve for now. Allow him to prove his health before activating him.
News: Rangers RHP Adam Eaton went four innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, allowing one run and three hits with two walks and striking out six.
Analysis: He might make another rehab start before returning to the rotation, Showalter said. Eaton had surgery on the middle finger of his pitching hand. Keep him reserved in AL-only play through his first start to make sure he's healthy.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Eaton (finger) will throw about 75 pitches in a rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma on Thursday.
Analysis: If all goes well, Eaton will join the Rangers in Chicago to get ready for a July 25 start against the Yankees. Keep him reserved in AL-only play through his first start to make sure he's healthy.
News: Adam Eaton (finger) will throw a bullpen and make a Triple-A rehab start Thursday before his likely big-league return July 25. According to the Dallas Morning News, Eaton has had good stuff: His velocity ranged between 89-93 mph and he threw some curve balls, which is a significant test after his tendon injury.
Analysis: Keep Eaton reserved for Fantasy Week 16 (July 17-23), but it looks like he could be pertinent even in mixed leagues the following week. The Rangers promise to give him ample run support and he's a streaky pitcher capable of 15-plus wins with a full season of health. He could win six or seven games down the stretch for Texas.
News: Right-hander Adam Eaton tossed four shutout innings Saturday for Double-A Frisco in his second rehab start. He allowed three hits and struck out three.
Analysis: Eaton, who is recovering from finger tendon surgery, will pitch again Thursday and then could be an option to join the Rangers' rotation July 25, according to the Dallas Morning News. Keep Eaton reserved for Fantasy Week 16 (July 17-23), but it looks like he could be pertinent even in mixed leagues the following week.
News: MLB.com reports Adam Eaton (finger surgery) makes his third rehab start on Saturday for Double-A Frisco. He could make one additional start before joining the Texas Rangers on July 25. "If he continues to progress the way he is, he'll be available on the 25th," manager Buck Showalter said.
Analysis: Eaton is targeting a Wednesday, July 26 start vs. N.Y. Yankees for his official big league return. Consider him an injured or reserve flier to take for the fact he could get solid run support from the Rangers in the second half.
News: Adam Eaton allowed one earned run and four hits in 2 1/3 innings during a Double-A rehab assignment Monday. He struck out two and walked none, but didn't make it through three innings as he had hoped.
Analysis: Eaton is targeting a Wednesday, July 26 start vs. N.Y. Yankees for his official big league return. Consider him an injured or reserve flier to take for the fact he could get solid run support from the Rangers in the second half.
News: Adam Eaton's next rehab outing is a three-inning stint on Monday for Double-A Frisco. Eaton threw 25 pitches for Triple-A Oklahoma on Thursday night, all fastballs, and did not allow a hit to the Omaha Royals.

News: Adam Eaton will begin his medical rehab assignment Thursday for Triple-A Oklahoma. Eaton, who has been out all season after undergoing surgery to reconstruct a torn pulley tendon in his right middle finger, is hoping to return by the end of July.
Analysis: Eaton is targeting a Wednesday, July 26 start vs. N.Y. Yankees for his official big league return. Consider him an injured or reserve flier to take for the fact he could get solid run support from the Rangers in the second half.
News: RHP Adam Eaton, sidelined since spring training due to a strained tendon in his right middle finger, begins his minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco next Monday with a 30-pitch outing. If that goes well, Eaton will pitch at Triple-A Oklahoma on the following Thursday. Eaton could join the rotation in late July.
Analysis: Eaton is targeting a Wednesday, July 26 start vs. N.Y. Yankees for his official big league return. Consider him a DL or reserve flier to take for the fact he could get solid run support from the Rangers in the second half.
News: Texas Rangers right-hander Adam Eaton threw a simulated game Sunday and is set to begin a rehabilitation assignment. "This is the biggest step," Eaton said. He said he felt no pain after throwing about 30 pitches Sunday. "Everything felt good. The ball came out of my hand well," Eaton said. "We're building up arm strength and stamina now."
Analysis: Eaton is scheduled to pitch two innings for Triple-A Oklahoma on Thursday night. He hasn't pitched in a game since his final spring training start March 29 when he re-injured the middle finger of his pitching hand and needed surgery. Manager Buck Showalter said after Thursday night, Eaton will work up to throwing 75-80 pitches. Eaton could finally make his Rangers debut the last week of July.
News: Adam Eaton, who has been on the 60-day DL all season with a strained right middle finger, threw a bullpen session and used all of his pitches - including curveballs and cutters for the first time.
Analysis: He is slated to pitch a two-inning simulated game Sunday in Arlington. If that goes well he will have a rehab assignment July 6 for Triple-A Oklahoma. He is targeting July 26 against New York for making his Texas Rangers debut.
News: Adam Eaton (torn pulley tendon, right middle finger) threw off a mound on Tuesday with no problems. He will pitch a simulated game format on Sunday and if he gets through that without issue, he'll go on a rehab assignment next week.
Analysis: Eaton still hasn't thrown any curve balls, which is the most stressful pitch to deal with as a result of the ailment. He is targeting July 26 against New York for making his Texas Rangers debut.
News: Adam Eaton is targeting July 26 against New York for making his Texas Rangers debut. He is on the disabled list with a torn tendon in his right middle finger. Eaton will throw breaking pitches for the first time on Tuesday and would throw a simulated game on July 2.
Analysis: Barring setbacks, Eaton would begin a rehab assignment on July 6. That would give him the opportunity to make four starts in the minors. "It's good to have framework," Eaton said. "I've always focused on July, but it's good to see that on a calendar. The throwing program we've been on has maybe been a little slower than I'd like, but it's a very just plan."
News: Three of the Rangers' five injured pitchers (RHPs Adam Eaton, Ryan Rupe and Frankie Francisco) threw on the side before Tuesday's game. "Everything went well," manager Buck Showalter said. Francisco has been taken off the DL and optioned to Double-A Frisco, but could be returning to the Rangers when he is eligible June 29. He'll pitch in back-to-back games at Wichita on Wednesday and Thursday.
Analysis: It appears that the starting pitcher is still at least four away from a return and likely another week or two after that from being useful in Fantasy leagues.
News: Adam Eaton had his first throwing session on Saturday in his rehab from the torn tendon in his right middle finger that required surgery on Apri1 4. Eaton threw off flat ground, then threw 15 fastballs.
Analysis: It appears that the starting pitcher is still at least four away from a return and likely another week or two after that from being useful in Fantasy leagues.
News: Adam Eaton is scheduled to throw off the mound Saturday for the first time since injuring the middle finger his last spring training start. "It's exciting for him and us," manager Buck Showalter said.
Analysis: Expected to be the team's No. 2 starter, Eaton instead had surgery April 4 to repair a tendon. He's been throwing for about 2 1/2 weeks. He will begin his session Saturday with long toss and progress to the mound. How he feels will determine how many pitches he throws, Showalter said.
News: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Adam Eaton (finger) will start throwing from a mound as soon as late next week and is hopeful of returning near the All-Star break.
Analysis: It appears that the starting pitcher is still at least four to six weeks away from a return and likely another week or two after that from being useful in Fantasy leagues.
News: Adam Eaton took a significant step Wednesday toward finally joining the Rangers' rotation when the right-hander played catch in the outfield. Eaton, recovering from surgery to repair a tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand, made about 30 throws from 30-40 feet on flat ground before the Rangers' game against Seattle. "They're all steps, but this is a baseball activity," manager Buck Showalter said. "It gives us a sense of light at the end of the tunnel." Eaton said he had no problems during the throwing session, during which he made some firm "on-a-line" throws. "It felt good. The fingertip's a little numb, still just from the surgery," Eaton said. "The way I feel right now, I'd like to keep throwing, just kind of push the limit a little bit."
Analysis: Depending on how the finger reacts to throwing, it will still be at least two to three weeks before Eaton is able to throw off a mound. He hopes to make his debut for the Rangers after the All-Star break in mid-July. While Eaton has been able to stay in good physical shape by running and doing other cardiovascular activities, he still has to build his arm strength. He plans to throw again Thursday, then will travel with the Rangers for a 10-game road trip that starts Friday in Chicago. "Other than being stiff every once in a while, this last week has been huge," Eaton said. Before initially injuring his finger last June, Eaton was 9-1 with a 3.18 ERA for the Padres. That is the kind of potential he has when healthy. Stash him in any league you can afford to for the next six weeks.
News: Adam Eaton (ruptured tendon in middle finger) has rejoined the Rangers, but he is still at least two weeks away from throwing a ball and likely two months from returning to game action. "I'm glad to finally get back here and be with the team," Eaton said. "The finger feels good."
Analysis: Eaton is hopeful of returning to the mound shortly after the All-Star break. He has spent the past seven weeks on rehab at the team's spring complex in Arizona.
News: Rangers RHP Adam Eaton is ahead of schedule in recovering from surgery to repair a tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand that was originally expected to keep him out four months. He was slated to be the No. 2 starter before he was injured in his last spring training start.
Analysis: He has been cleared to begin baseball specific conditioning and will soon return to Texas to continue his recovery.
News: The Rangers transferred right-hander Adam Eaton to the 60-day disabled list.
Analysis: Eaton is recovering from surgery to repair a tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand, an injury the expected No. 2 starter sustained in his last spring training start.
News: Texas right-hander Adam Eaton had surgery to repair a tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand Tuesday, the day he had been scheduled to make his debut as the Rangers' No. 2 starter. The surgery was performed by hand specialist Dr. Don Sheridan in Arizona, where Eaton will remain for six weeks of rehabilitation under the doctor's care. Eaton injured the finger in his last spring start. Dr. Keith Meister, the Rangers' team physician, said Eaton could be out four months. Meister described the injury as a ruptured pulley tendon, and said part of a tendon was taken from the pitcher's left wrist to repair the injured finger.
Analysis: "Adam has an extremely unique injury," Meister said. "It's an injury you see in rock climbers. No one has ever seen it in a pitcher." It is the same injury that bothered Eaton last season in San Diego. He was traded to the Rangers during the offseason. Before injuring his finger last June, Eaton was 9-1 with a 3.18 ERA for the Padres. He twice went on the disabled list after that, went 2-4 his last nine starts and didn't pitch in the playoffs. Eaton is nothing more than a player to stash on DLs in larger leagues at this point. He could be an impact pitcher in the second half in AL-only formats, though.
News: RHP Adam Eaton suffered a tendon injury to the middle finger of his pitching hand. He will have surgery, and he almost certainly won't pitch before July.
Analysis: Eaton is nothing more than a player to stash on DLs in larger leagues at this point. He could be an impact pitcher in the second half in AL-only formats, though.
News: After visiting a Phoenix hand specialist Thursday, Adam Eaton said he will miss at least three months of the season. A surgical procedure on his injured right middle finger is a legitimate option. The other option would be to rest the finger for a significant period and rehab. "Hopefully it's three months to come back fully healthy," Eaton said. "That's what's ahead of me. I've got to be ready to deal with that."
Analysis: This is situation is something to monitor going forward, and Eaton should be bumped down on most draft lists. The Rangers picked knuckleballer R.A. Dickey for the fifth spot in a rotation that was to feature Kevin Millwood, Eaton, Vicente Padilla and Kameron Loe. Now Juan Dominquez or Edison Volquez will no doubt be in the mix as well.
News: Adam Eaton could be out of the Texas Rangers' rotation for at least a month with a strained tendon in the middle finger on his pitching hand, the same injury that sidelined him last season. "I'd be happy if someone said he could come back by May 1," manager Buck Showalter said Thursday. "The trouble is, there is nothing in baseball to compare this injury to." Showalter said team physician Dr. Keith Meister told him rock climbers are the only people who get the kind of injury Eaton sustained while throwing a curveball against his former team, San Diego, in the second inning of a spring training game Wednesday.
Analysis: This is something to monitor going forward and Eaton should be bumped down a few spots on most draft lists. The Rangers picked knuckleballer R.A. Dickey for the fifth spot in a rotation that was to feature Kevin Millwood, Eaton, Vicente Padilla and Kameron Loe.
News: Adam Eaton left his final spring training start for the Texas Rangers in the second inning Wednesday, feeling pain in the same finger that sent him to the disabled list in San Diego last season. Eaton, who was trailing his former team 3-1, came out because of discomfort in his right middle finger. He was scheduled to pitch the Rangers' second game Tuesday against Boston but said he probably would miss several starts. "Judging by how it was last year, I'd say I'm going to miss more than a few starts," Eaton said. An MRI exam was scheduled later Wednesday, Eaton said.
Analysis: "It came on a breaking ball," Eaton said. "I knew something was wrong right away. When they came out to visit me at the mound, they put the ball in my hand, and I couldn't even squeeze it." Eaton had to skip a spring training start after getting hit by a line drive below his pitching elbow March 19 against the Chicago Cubs. This is something to monitor going forward and Eaton should be bumped down a few spots on most draft lists.
News: Rangers RHP Adam Eaton pitched 1 1/3 innings in a minor league game Saturday and will make his final spring start Wednesday against San Diego, his former team. Eaton, who allowed a double, faced four batters and threw 14 pitches, eight for strikes. He is scheduled to start the second game of the season April 4 against Boston.
Analysis: Eaton has a spot in the Rangers' rotation, which makes him a candidate for 15 victories if he can prove to be the pitcher he was in the first half last season. Take a flier on him in any league in which you can bounce him in and out of your action lineup based on matchups.
News: Adam Eaton will pitch one or two innings Saturday in a minor league game and then make his final scheduled start of the spring Wednesday against his former team, the San Diego Padres. Eaton will miss his Friday start after being hit by a line drive just below his pitching elbow on Sunday against the Cubs.
Analysis: Eaton has a spot in the Rangers' rotation, which makes him a candidate for 15 victories if he can prove to be the pitcher he was in the first half last season. Take a flier on him in any league in which you can bounce him in and out of your action lineup based on matchups.
News: Adam Eaton (elbow) will not pitch Friday, but he could pitch in a simulated game or in an exhibition over the weekend. The Rangers believe Eaton will remain on schedule to start the second game of the regular season against Boston.
Analysis: Eaton, who has never reached 200 innings in nine professional seasons, was the 107th overall selection (Round 11) in the recent B.I.G.S. AL Head-to-Head Experts League.
News: Texas starter Adam Eaton said his pitching arm is feeling better since it was hit by a line drive Sunday, but the right-hander is still questionable for his next scheduled start Friday. Eaton worked out Tuesday, but skipped his regular bullpen session because of the deep bruise below his right elbow. "I threw it about 60 feet today, but that was it," Eaton said. "It felt better than it did Sunday. I can tell you that. We'll see what happens."
Analysis: Eaton has a spot in the Rangers' rotation, which makes him a candidate for 15 victories if he can prove to be the pitcher he was in the first half last season. Take a flier on him in any league in which you can bounce him in and out of your action lineup based on matchups.
News: MLB.com reports Adam Eaton (forearm) was able to play catch from 100 feet on Tuesday. He was scheduled to pitch on Friday against the Chicago Cubs but might be held back. The ailment is not considered too serious.
Analysis: Wilson, who is scheduled to be the Rangers' starter in the second game of the season against the Boston Red Sox, was the 107th overall selection (Round 11) in the recent B.I.G.S. AL Head-to-Head Experts League.
News: Adam Eaton, who was hit by a line drive on the right forearm this past weekend, was diagnosed with a simple bruise. He will be re-evaluated Tuesday and it's uncertain if he'll make his next scheduled start Friday.
Analysis: Eaton is a talented pitcher who was off to a great start last season before an injured finger slowed him. He has some real potential in Texas and was the 150th overall selection (Round 13) in the 2006 CBS SportsLine.com AL Experts League.
News: The Rangers received a scare with their starting pitcher on Sunday. Right-hander Adam Eaton took a line drive off his right forearm in the second. He picked up the ball and made the unassisted putout at first base to retire Marquis Grissom, but manager Buck Showalter removed him from the game. The Rangers said Eaton has a bruised right forearm and was taken out of the game for as a precaution.
Analysis: Eaton is a talented pitcher who was off to a great start last year before a finger injury tripped him up. The 150th overall selection (Round 13) in the 2006 CBS SportsLine.com AL experts league is an outstanding late-round sleeper for his wins potential for one of the most potent offenses in baseball. He has already had the stuff, so he could finally put it all together behind one of the best offenses in the AL.
News: Adam Eaton gave up four earned runs in three innings Thursday. The right-hander, acquired from San Diego during the offseason, allowed four straight hits in the second, including a Paul Bako three-run homer. "Adam pitched well all considered," Texas manager Buck Showalter said. "He just let a few pitches get away."
Analysis: The Rangers gave up Chris Young for this? Honestly, Eaton is a talented pitcher who was off to a great start last year before a finger injury tripped him up.
News: Adam Eaton says his strained middle finger ruined his potential breakthrough. "I'd been waiting a few years to get to that point, put a bunch of hard work in," Eaton said. "Seeing the fruits of my labor pay off the way they were and just having kind of a freak injury prevent that from continuing was frustrating." Before injuring the finger June 15, the right-hander was 9-1 with a 3.18 ERA. He twice went on the DL after that, went 2-4 his last nine starts. "You don't want to show it as 'well, that was just two months of freakish stuff as opposed to two months of what he's going to do for the rest of his career,"' the former first-round pick said. "And I see strides, just in the 'pens and stuff that those days are coming closer to fruition again."
Analysis: Eaton is off to a good start for the Rangers, pitching two shutout innings in an instrsquad game Tuesday. He allowed only a single and struck out three of the seven batters he faced while throwing 18 of 28 pitches for strikes. "Crisp, good cutter," manager Buck Showalter said. News: MLB.com reports Adam Eaton and Rick Bauer are scheduled to be the Rangers' starting pitchers in Tuesday's intrasquad game. On Wednesday, Vicente Padilla and Kameron Loe will battle in the second intrasquad game. Josh Rupe starts Thursday against the Kansas City Royals and Kevin Millwood will pitch in an intrasquad game on Friday. The Rangers play the Royals again that day and could use Jose Silva as a starter.
Analysis: Rupe continues to battle several other hurlers for the fifth spot in the rotation. Eaton, was comes over from the National League (San Diego), was the 150th overall selection (thirteenth round) in the 2006 CBS SportsLine.com AL Experts League.
News: Adam Eaton may have too many strikes against him to be successful in Arlington. He's a fly ball pitcher who's coming from the National League. And he called the most pitcher-friendly park in the NL (San Diego) home last season.
Analysis: If Eaton can follow up his impressive first half of 2005 with a full year in 2006, he could be the Rangers' biggest boon. On the other hand, he could also end up as a bust if his pitching style makes him a poor fit in Texas. Eaton was the 150th overall selection (thirteenth round) in the 2006 CBS SportsLine.com AL Experts League.
News: Adam Eaton was the 150th overall selection (thirteenth round) in the 2006 CBS SportsLine.com AL Experts League. He recorded a 11-5 record with a 4.27 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 128.2 IP in 2005 and was limited due to an injured finger.
Analysis: Eaton has the potential to win 12-15 games in Texas, but he needs to remain on the mound and off the disabled list to find success. Still, he is worth a thirteenth- to fourteenth-round selection in AL leagues.
News: The Rangers agreed to one-year deals with right-hander Adam Eaton ($4.65 million) and outfielder Brad Wilkerson ($3.9 million), avoiding arbitration with two players acquired in separate trades last month.
Analysis: Eaton was part of a six-player trade with the Padres. He was 11-5 with a 4.27 ERA last season, when he was limited to 128 2/3 innings and 24 games (22 starts) because of a strained middle finger. While his ERA and WHIP will take a hit in Texas, his wins total should be as healthy as ever. We can see him being a 15-game winner if he finally stays healthy for a full season.
News: The Rangers agreed Tuesday to acquire right-hander Adam Eaton, setup reliever Akinori Otsuka and a minor-league prospect to be named from San Diego for pitcher Chris Young, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and outfielder Terrmel Sledge. The deal was pending physicals, according to three baseball officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been finalized.
Analysis: Eaton is a classic underachiever. Despite knockout stuff, he has yet to post any more than 11 victories, 200 innings or an ERA under 4.00. Not exactly something you look for in a mixed-league starter. He has some strikeout potential, but endless injury woes have held him back (last year it was a strained flexor tendon on his pitching hand). Consider him a sleeper, because he could give you great value on Draft Day if he ever stays healthy. A change of scenery in Texas might hurt his ERA some, but a top-notch offense should help boost his win totals.
News: Bruce Bochy hasn't announced his playoff rotation, but he did say right-hander Adam Eaton is scheduled to start Sunday's regular-season finale against Los Angeles. Asked if that meant Pedro Astacio would start Game 2 of the division series next Thursday, Bochy said: "Not necessarily. You guys can speculate all you want."
Analysis: Ace Jake Peavy is expected to start Game 1 on Tuesday. Besides Astacio, the other candidate to start Game 2 would be Woody Williams (8-12), who has struggled in his past two starts. Eaton lasted only 3 1/3 innings Tuesday night against the Giants, getting a no-decision. He allowed six runs and nine hits. "He needs to get back out there and pitch," Bochy said.
News: Right-hander Adam Eaton was activated from the disabled list by the San Diego Padres on Friday in time to start against the Colorado Rockies. "Someone asked me how I felt and I said, 'Kind of like a spring training game,'" Eaton said. "You're trying to analyze every pitch. Things just aren't in that groove yet. Physically, I was able to throw some pitches, but mechanically, I was off a little bit." To make room on the roster, catcher David Ross was optioned to Triple-A Portland. Eaton lasted five innings, allowing four runs, three earned, and six hits in a loss against Colorado Friday. He struck out four and walked three.
Analysis: Eaton is 9-2 with a 3.76 ERA, but he strained a flexor tendon in his right middle finger during his last start, June 15 at Detroit. He was on the disabled list until July 31. He made two relief appearances, and then went back on the disabled list to make three rehab starts in the minors.
News: Adam Eaton (finger) is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list to start Friday's game against the Rockies.
Analysis: Eaton allowed five runs in eight innings working for Triple-A Portland. Keep him reserved in all Fantasy leagues until he can prove his health and pitch consistently.
News: Manager Bruce Bochy said RHP Adam Eaton will either pitch for the Padres on Friday night or make one more rehab start for Triple-A Portland. Bochy will know for sure by Tuesday night. When Eaton comes off the DL, Bochy will have to move one starter to the bullpen. It is almost certain to be Pedro Astacio.
Analysis: Eaton looks like he will be good to go for Fantasy Week 22 (Aug. 29-Sept. 4). Track his progress after Friday's start or rehab outing.
News: Adam Eaton threw 60 pitches in a simulated game Friday and had no pain in his injured right finger, manager Bruce Bochy said. Eaton, on the disabled list with a strained middle finger on his right hand, is scheduled to make a rehab start on Sunday with Triple-A Portland.
Analysis: Bochy said Eaton will make one, possibly two starts in the minors before he is due off the DL on Aug. 20.
News: Padres right-hander Adam Eaton was put back on the DL on Tuesday so he can go down to the minor leagues and make at least three starts. Eaton (9-2, 3.76 ERA) was on the DL from June 16 through July 31 with a strained tendon in his right middle finger. He pitched out of the bullpen on the recently completed road trip, throwing two innings in two appearances, but that arrangement didn't work out as intended. "This is the one way to get me some innings," Eaton said. "Obviously the plan originally was to be in the bullpen and be able to throw two or three innings at a time. It was kind of hard to really plan and execute, though."
Analysis: Eaton is scheduled to start Wednesday for the Padres' Class A affiliate Lake Elsinore, at Lancaster, working three innings. He's then scheduled to make two starts for Triple-A Portland next Monday and Aug. 20. "At this point, we want Adam to be ready to start," manager Bruce Bochy said. "He hasn't really been able to use all his pitches. To get him back to throwing the way he's capable of throwing, this is probably the best thing for him and the ballclub." The finger injury had prevented Eaton from throwing his curveball, but he said he finally was able to start throwing that pitch during a side session Sunday. "It's not bad now," Eaton said. "We'll see how it goes. It would be nice to come back with a full arsenal."
