News: Dodgers infielder Adam Kennedy has started twice at third base through the team's first 10 games. However, he has just one hit in eight at-bats (.125). He also has one RBI and two walks.
Analysis: The Dodgers keep Kennedy around for his versatility around the infield and veteran presence, but he's not expected to make a big Fantasy impact in 2012. Continue to keep him off rosters.
News: Dodgers first baseman Adam Kennedy struck out in his lone at-bat as a pinch-hitter during Los Angeles' 6-2 Cactus League loss to Arizona on Sunday. It was Kennedy's first game action since he was removed from last Sunday's outing with a strained right groin.
Analysis: Kennedy was expected to be ready for the start of the regular season, but the Dodgers wanted to make sure he was completely past the issue. The 36-year-old will serve off the bench this season, but his Fantasy value is limited after hitting below .250 for the second straight year in 2011. He should remain on waivers in most Fantasy formats for now.
News: Dodgers infielder Adam Kennedy left Sunday's Cactus League game against the Brewers due to a strain in his right groin. He is being considered day to day.
Analysis: Kennedy has gone 9 for 32 (.281) with one homer and four RBI so far this spring. This injury is not expected to limit him going forward but keep an eye on his progress just to be safe. The 36-year-old will see some playing time off the bench in 2012 so target him in deeper NL-only formats.
News: The Dodgers finalized their one-year deal with 1B Adam Kennedy on Thursday, according to CBSSports.com Senior Baseball Writer Danny Knobler. The deal is reportedly worth $800,000. Kennedy batted .234 with seven homers and 38 RBI in 114 games for the Mariners last season.
Analysis: Kennedy will play the same utility role that he played for Seattle this past season. With injury-prone Mark Ellis and Juan Uribe occupying half of the Dodger infield, Kennedy could get plenty of chances to play next year, making him a viable option in NL-only leagues.
News: FOXSports.com reports the Dodgers and infielder Adam Kennedy are "closing in" on a major-league contract. Kennedy batted .234 with seven homers and 38 RBI in 114 games for the Mariners last season.
Analysis: Kennedy showed last season that he still has something left in the tank and could actually end up starting for the Dodgers if the deal gets done. Keep an eye on the situation going forward. But given his low batting average at this stage of his career, target Kennedy in single-league formats on Draft Day.
News: Mariners UTL Adam Kennedy returned to the starting lineup Friday against the Rays after missing five games with a heel injury. He started at third base for Seattle. Kennedy would go 0 for 4 at the plate and strike out twice in the Mariners 3-2 loss to the Rays.
Analysis: Kennedy mostly fills in these days for Seattle at first base, third base and DH. He might not be a great offensive player, but Kennedy's defense and veteran leadership keep him in the lineup on most nights. Consider him more of an AL-only Fantasy option.
News: Mariners 2B Adam Kennedy missed another start on Wednesday against Toronto as he continues to sit out with a sore left heel. Kennedy has only played in one of the team's last six games due to his injury. He was hoping to come back Wednesday, but could not. Kennedy was able to enter the game as a replacement when Casper Wells suffered an injury.
Analysis: Kennedy has gone just 4 for 27 (.148) so far in August so these days off might be doing his bat some good, at least. The 35-year-old has seen some decent playing time so far this season, and should continue to once healthy as one of the few veteran presences in the M's lineup. While he still has some decent low-end pop at this stage of his career, Kennedy remains more of an AL-only option at this point.
News: As expected, Mariners 2B Adam Kennedy was not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays due to a sore left heel. Kennedy has only played in one of the team's last five contests because of his injury but is hoping to return to the lineup on Wednesday.
Analysis: Kennedy has gone just 4 for 27 (.148) so far in August so maybe a couple of days off will do him some good. The 35-year-old has seen some decent playing time so far this season, and should continue to once healthy as one of the few veteran presences in the M's lineup. While he still has some decent low-end pop at this stage of his career, Kennedy remains more of an AL-only option at this point.
News: Mariners manager Eric Wedge told MLB.com on Monday that Adam Kennedy is still dealing with a sore left heel and will likely not return to the lineup until Wednesday's series finale against the Blue Jays. Kennedy, who has played just once in the last five games, is batting .241 on the year with seven homers and 37 RBI. "I'm just giving him some more time," Wedge said. "He'd go out there and play in a second if I put him in there, but we need to do the smart thing by him. He's been a trooper for us all year, now we need to take care of him a little bit."

The 35-year-old has seen some decent playing time so far this season, and should continue to once healthy as one of the few veteran presences in the M's lineup. News: Mariners INF Adam Kennedy was not in the lineup on Wednesday against the Rangers as he was dealing with a sore heel. He told MLB.com that he was available if needed, but did not get into the game. With a day off on Thursday the Mariners don't take the field again until Friday versus Boston. The team's considering him day to day.
Analysis: Kennedy went 2 for 4 with three RBI on Tuesday so he was disappointed to sit on Wednesday. He has plantar fasciitis in his left foot, which keeps him out of some games for Seattle. Before Tuesday, Kennedy struggled through a 14-game stretch in which he hit .137. That saw him bounce between regular playing time and a bench role. Because he is a better defender than offensive option, Fantasy owners should view him as an AL-only option, when healthy.
News: Mariners INF Adam Kennedy was back at third base for a second straight game on Friday against the Red Sox. Kyle Seager was sent back at Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, freeing up at-bats at third base.
Analysis: Kennedy is batting just .231 in 14 July games, but he appears to be the best of the worst options right now for Seattle. Chone Figgins is likely also to be in the mix at third base for Seattle. Kennedy is a better defender than offensive option, so he still has low-end Fantasy appeal.
News: Seattle INF Adam Kennedy is not going to be a .300 hitter any time soon, but he has been fairly consistent of late. He continued the pattern Wednesday against the Blue Jays, notching two hits in a 11-6 loss. Kennedy singled and scored in the fourth inning, and he plated himself with a solo homer in the eighth frame to wrap-up the 2 for 5 night.
Analysis: Kennedy has hit successfully in six straight games for Seattle, and he has seven RBI in July -- just three away from his season high for a month with 11 days remaining until August. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his playing time with him getting some time off here and there with rookie Kyle Seager with the club. Still, Kennedy is worth a play as a low-end AL-only option as long as he holds steady when given the chance. He has seven homers and 31 RBI on the year to compensate for his .262 average.
News: The Mariners announced after Wednesday's game against the A's that they selected the contract of INF prospect Kyle Seager from Triple-A Tacoma. Catcher Jose Yepez was designated for assignment to clear a roster spot. Seager's arrival spells bad news for Adam Kennedy and Chone Figgins, who will likely lose starts at third base to Seager. "Adam can play four positions: DH, first, second and third," Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said. "With young kids at two of those spots, he'll get time there and he can also rest [Justin] Smoak sometimes at first. Adam isn't a guy you run out there seven days a week at his age. But he's been wonderful and he'll be a big part of what we're going to be doing."
Analysis: Kennedy has been splitting time lately at third base with Figgins, but Seager's arrival means the M's have to find at-bats for another infielder. Kennedy is still versatile enough to play those four positions his GM noted, so he will find his way into the lineup. It's just that he has limited offensive upside, so Kennedy remains a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Seattle INF Adam Kennedy went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI in Friday's 6-0 win over San Diego. He also drew a walk and scored a run for the Mariners. He got the start at second base for Dustin Ackley, who was out with bruised ribs.
Analysis: Kennedy has been starting at third base on a regular basis as he's proved more effective than Chone Figgins this year. Kennedy is batting .269 on the season with six homers and 26 RBI. He's not known as a power hitter, but he has excelled since Seattle made him a regular in the lineup. Fantasy owners should continue to view Kennedy as more of an AL-only option.
News: Seattle INF Adam Kennedy got the nod at designated hitter Monday against the Braves, and it proved to be a solid move. Though the team lost, he accounted for the only run the team scored when he hit a towering solo home run off of Brandon Beachy in the fourth inning to tie the game up. Kennedy finished 1 for 4 with a strikeout in the 3-1 loss.
Analysis: Kennedy hasn't been the most consistent hitter in baseball, but he has hit successfully in three of four games and in five of eight. His second June homer came in a big spot as well, though the team couldn't rally against Beachy and the Braves. Kennedy has excelled since being moved to third base defensively, and the team wanted to give him a lighter day's work at home. "We've been pushing Adam pretty hard and asking a lot of him, so I want to make sure we don't get too complacent with that," manager Eric Wedge said. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his playing time going forward, just in case he gets the nod a few more times at DH. Even if he does, Kennedy is a marginal option across the board.
News: Seattle INF Adam Kennedy has been playing all over the infield for the Mariners, but that time is coming to a close. According to The Seattle Times, manager Eric Wedge said Kennedy will get the bulk of the time at third base over the struggling Chone Figgins. "I've thought more,'' Wedge said. "It's a fine line for me. With Adam, he's a better player when we give him strategic days off. We know that. But that's hard to do, because we are a different lineup when he's in there. But he's going to continue to play more. He's going to play more at third, obviously. We'll still have to give him those days off every now and then to keep him at a level we need him. But with Ackley here, if Ryno keeps playing the way he's playing, we should be OK with that."
Analysis: Kennedy has been a great team player in Seattle as he's been playing wherever Wedge has needed him. That position in now third base, so he'll be getting plenty of at-bats. "[Kennedy's] been our most consistent hitter this year, and deserves to play," Wedge said on Tuesday. Over his last 10 games Kennedy is batting .270 (10 for 37) with four RBI, one steal and three runs scored. He's been a nice AL-only option all year, but now that he's secured a starting gig Fantasy owners should view him as a low-end option in deeper mixed leagues. Just be aware if Figgins gets hot, this situation could change very fast.
News: Seattle INF Adam Kennedy has started twice at third base in place of Chone Figgins -- both since Dustin Ackley got promoted. He produced on Tuesday night against the Nationals as he went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI. "[Kennedy's] been our most consistent hitter this year, and deserves to play," manager Eric Wedge told MLB.com. The Mariners wouldn't hold on to the lead though as they lost to the Nationals, 6-5. Wedge has said that Kennedy will continue to get starts, just not at one position.
Analysis: Kennedy will get time all over the infield for the Mariners, which makes him versatile in Fantasy leagues. Once he gets enough starts at third he'll be eligible at first, second and short. For now, Kennedy remains a decent option in AL-only Fantasy formats, but if he can grab a full-time starting gig, say at third, his stock will rise. Keep tabs on this situation in Seattle.
News: The Tacoma News Tribune reports that Seattle infielder Adam Kennedy should still see plenty of at-bats after the Mariners promote Dustin Ackley to play second base. This comes according to skipper Eric Wedge. "Adam will spell Justin Smoak at first base at times, spell Ackley at second base, make some starts at third base for Chone Figgins and some at designated hitter," Wedge said. "Adam will play regularly, just not at one spot."
Analysis: Kennedy has gone just 1 for 15 in his last seven days of action with one RBI and now his playing time is being compromised. That is never good for Fantasy value. He should still see at-bats, but Kennedy is certainly nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy option.
News: Seattle 2B Adam Kennedy practiced taking ground balls at third base on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Kennedy has mainly been spending time at second and first base this season, but would likely move over to the left side of the infield to accommodate top prospect Dustin Ackley, who would play second. Kennedy is hitting a team-leading .275 this season and has played 90 combined games at third base the last two years.
Analysis: The Mariners recalled Ackley from Triple-A following Wednesday's win over the Angels. Chone Figgins is starting at third, but his playing time has decreased as his offense continues to sputter. The team could look to shop Figgins since Seattle manager Eric Wedge expressed a desire to keep Kennedy's bat in the lineup. Fantasy owners should consider Kennedy a low-end option in AL-only formats for now.
News: Mariners 2B Adam Kennedy hasn't flashed much power at the plate recently, but the hits are accumulating. He was at it again Thursday against the Rays, notching a pair of singles and an RBI double in the win. Kennedy now has two three-hit games over the last four contests he's started. He's hitting .299 this season after the 3 for 4 night.
Analysis: Kennedy was hitting .244 in mid-May and he has gone on a hitting binge ever since to bring his average right at the .300 mark. He has six multi-hit games since May 13 and 19 total hits in the 15-game span. His consistency has allowed for him to knock in seven runs in the span as well, giving him 15 on the year. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his continues hitting, though he will not start every game for the M's. Kennedy is a rising marginal option moving forward.
News: Mariners 2B Adam Kennedy, who has been starting at second base against right-handed pitchers, got a start at first base against a lefty Wednesday at Minnesota. He went 1 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and is now batting .357 (10 for 28) with a homer and four steals over his last 10 games.
Analysis: Kennedy has been a viable contributor in the past, offering extra-base pop with modest steals potential, so he shouldn't go ignored in AL-only leagues now that he's the better half of a lefty-righty platoon. His starts at first base won't be so common, but he's not an especially useful option at that position anyway.
News: Mariners infielder Adam Kennedy had a productive night at the plate in Monday's series opener against the Twins. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI in the 5-2 win. He blasted a solo shot off starter Scott Baker in the sixth inning, and Carlos Peguero followed him with one of his own. Kennedy also had a sac fly in the eighth, giving him four homers and 10 RBI on the year.
Analysis: Kennedy has seen his batting average drop from .292 on May 3 to its current mark of .258 but the 35-year-old is showing Fantasy owners that he still has some decent pop. He has seen playing time at mostly second and first base for the Mariners and serves as a solid veteran off the bench. But since he won't see steady at-bats going forward, Fantasy owners should continue to view Kennedy as nothing more than a low-end option in AL-only formats.
News: Seattle INF Adam Kennedy blasted a two-run homer in the second inning of Tuesday's game in Baltimore. Kennedy took starter Jake Arrieta deep for his third home run of the season. He finished 1 for 4 in the contest that ended up as a 13-inning Orioles walk-off win. Kennedy is batting .260 on the year.
Analysis: Kennedy got his first base hit since May 3 against Texas with the home run on Tuesday. Kennedy should see inconsistent playing time for the Mariners and that leaves him more of an AL-only Fantasy option.
News: Mariners 2B Adam Kennedy was back in the team's lineup on Tuesday night for the first time since April 29 in Boston. He responded with a pair of singles, going 2 for 4. Kennedy started at second base after filling in briefly for Justin Smoak at first while he was on the bereavement list.
Analysis: Kennedy will continue to see inconsistent playing time, but he is hitting .292 in 20 appearances (65 at-bats) this season and has proven to be worthy of the playing time he has gotten. As a middle-infielder, he has shown enough upside to be considered a viable stopgap measure in AL-only formats (especially daily leagues) when he finds himself in the lineup.
News: Seattle 2B Adam Kennedy went 1 for 3 with a home run in the Mariners' 1-0 victory over Oakland on Thursday night. Kennedy blasted his second homer of the season off Athletics SP Brandon McCarthy in the fourth inning to represent the only scoring in the game. It was Kennedy's second long ball in three at-bats, as he also homered in the ninth inning of Wednesday's game against Detroit. Kennedy is now hitting .316 this season.
Analysis: For the second consecutive game, Kennedy was the most productive hitter for Seattle. He also had a stellar evening in the field in just his ninth career start at first base as he fills in for Justin Smoak, who is on bereavement leave. In the seventh with two outs and a runner on first, Ellis hit a grounder to deep short. Kennedy made a long, falling-down stretch on shortstop Brendan Ryan's arching throw for the out. Kennedy, who was a non-roster invitee to spring training, could receive more playing time when Smoak returns. For now, Fantasy owners should consider him a low-end reserve option in AL-only formats.
News: Seattle 2B Adam Kennedy finished 2 for 4 with a home run in the Mariners' 3-2 loss to Detroit on Wednesday. Kennedy bashed his first homer of the season -- a solo shot -- off Tigers closer Jose Valverde to lead off the ninth inning and pull Seattle within one run of the lead. It was Kennedy's first home run since Aug. 5, 2010 against Arizona. The veteran infielder also contributed a single in the fourth inning.
Analysis: Kennedy started at first base as starting 1B Justin Smoak is away from the team on the bereavement list. The 35-year-old Kennedy has done an effective job in a reserve role in his first season with Seattle, hitting .314 with three doubles. He is being slotted in premier spots in the batting order and hit third against the Tigers on Wednesday. Still, he remains a low-end Fantasy option in AL-only formats because of his limited playing time.
News:Justin Smoak was placed on the bereavement list Tuesday because of a family matter. Chris Gimenez drew the start at first base for the Mariners against the Tigers, but manager Eric Wedge said he would platoon with Adam Kennedy until Smoak, who can stay on the bereavement list 3-7 days, returns.
Analysis: This is exactly the reason Seattle keeps Kennedy on its roster. They like his ability to play multiple infield positions. While he is hitting .290 on the young season, don't look to Kennedy for much help in Fantasy. He might get a few extra starts in Week 3 (April 18-24), but he is not worth adding in Fantasy.
News: Mariners 2B Adam Kennedy got the start at DH and batted No. 4 for just the second time in his career in Thursday's game against the Royals. With Jack Cust being given the day off, manager Eric Wedge decided to go with the 35-year-old in the cleanup spot. "I figured that would be one of the questions today,'' Wedge told the Seattle Times. "You know what? I don't think we have a true four-hole hitter right now. I think what you want to do ideally is put someone in there who's a veteran, and also is swinging the bat well and that's what Adam is doing.'' Kennedy has gone 7 for 21 (.333) with two runs scored so far this season.
Analysis: Kennedy saw some starts over the weekend at second base while Jack Wilson was in Wedge's doghouse but that situation seems to have dissolved and the veteran will have to find other ways to get into the lineup on a nightly basis. He has the ability to play all over the infielder so expect him to see some regular at-bats while he's playing well. He has never been much of a run producer though, so continue to view Kennedy as more of an AL-only option at this point in his career.
News: Mariners INF Adam Kennedy received his second start of the season in place of Jack Wilson Friday against the Indians. He was able to single to right field after three failed plate appearances, and he would eventually score on a Matt LaPorta error. Kennedy finished the night 1 for 4 with a run scored, his second of the early season.
Analysis: Wilson is in the doghouse for his defensive play so far this season, so Kennedy figures to be the beneficiary for now. He has recorded three combined hits over his first two starts, kicking off the season at a .300 clip. Kennedy has yet to drive in his first run, but the boost should call for more playing time for the Cal State Northridge product. Fantasy owners should eye the situation over the next few games to see if he will be the man at second more times than not in the short term. If so, we like Kennedy as a marginal option in deeper formats.
News: Mariners manager Eric Wedge admitted Sunday that infielder Adam Kennedy is considered the team's emergency catcher even though he has never caught a game in his career. "I threw it out the other day and Adam jumped up and said, 'OK, I'll do it,'" Wedge told reporters. "You're always a bit uncomfortable when you get down to your last catcher unless you've got a (Chris) Gimenez type who can play all over the place. That's where a value of a guy like that comes into play if he can do the other things. But you've got to do what you've got to do to win the ballgame. That's why we're here, so you take that risk."
Analysis: This news doesn't really impact Fantasy owners. The Mariners are only going to use Kennedy as a catcher in a dire situation. He'll still see most of his at-bats as a utility infielder. Kennedy remains at best an AL-only Fantasy reserve.
News: It's official: Adam Kennedy has made the Mariners' roster. He'll likely be a backup infielder with the team.
Analysis: Kennedy can provide insurance at second base if Jack Wilson doesn't pan out there. He can also back up at first and third, so his versatility and veteran presence is a bonus. While Kennedy might hit for a decent average, his little power and absence of everyday at-bats make him even a risky Fantasy flier in AL-only formats.
News:The Seattle Times reports with the demotion of prospect Dustin Ackley on Wednesday that likely means Adam Kennedy will make the Mariners' roster as a backup infielder.
Analysis: This seems like a logical move since Kennedy can provide insurance at second base if Jack Wilson doesn't pan out there. He can also back up at first and third, so his versatility and veteran presence is a bonus. While Kennedy might hit for a decent average, his little power and absence of everyday at-bats make him even a risky Fantasy flier in AL-only formats.
News: INF Adam Kennedy, 3 for 19 going into Monday's spring game against the Cubs, drove in two runs with a sixth-inning single for the Mariners, an inning after Chone Figgins doubled in the tying run. Kennedy is now hitting .182 with one homer and five RBI in nine games.
Analysis: Kennedy is vying for a utility bench role with the Mariners. He has a good chance to earn the job since he plays three positions and is a veteran presence. Still, offense has never been Kennedy's strong suit, so he remains at best an AL-only Fantasy reserve.
News: After being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in late January, INF Adam Kennedy finds himself in Mariners camp with a real shot at leaving Arizona with the big league club. He's a veteran, a former American League Championship Series MVP who can play three positions in an infield that needs a utility player. But aside from what Kennedy can possibly provide on the field, the way he handled his arrest left his new club impressed. "For him to stand up and face the music like he did, take full responsibility for his actions, he handled it as professionally as you can handle that circumstance," Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik said. Kennedy was arrested on Jan. 26 while driving home from dinner in Newport Beach, Calif. It came just 16 days after signing his deal with the Mariners - far from the best first impression to leave on a new ball club.
Analysis: After apologizing profusely to Zduriencik, Kennedy took the step of calling all the reporters who cover the Mariners to speak about his arrest. He was candid and apologetic, repeatedly saying he made a mistake. "I didn't really have to say a lot. He said it all. He said it to me. He knew the consequences. He knew he started off on the wrong foot," Zduriencik said. "He knew this was something that embarrassed the organization, so we talked about what he wanted to do about it and he said he wanted to stand up and be a man about this thing." Playing on a minor league deal for the first time in his career after bouncing between St. Louis, Washington and Oakland the last three seasons, Kennedy will battle for a spot on the roster during the spring. But even if he breaks camp with the big club, Kennedy will only be worth owning in deeper AL-only formats.
News: Infielder Adam Kennedy, who signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners this month, was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence on an Orange County freeway. He was released Thursday morning. Messages seeking comment from the Mariners and from Kennedy's agent, Paul Cohen, weren't immediately returned.
Analysis: The 35-year-old Kennedy has been invited to the Mariners' major-league camp. Though his arrest doesn't eliminate him from winning a roster spot, it certainly doesn't help his chances. Even if he wins a job, he would be just a part-time player and wouldn't offer much more than a few stolen bases. He should go undrafted outside of deeper AL-only leagues.
News: The Mariners signed 2B Adam Kennedy to a minor league contract on Monday. The Nationals did not exercise their team option on Kennedy back in November, making him a free agent. The 35-year-old Kennedy hit .249 with a .327 on-base percentage, three homers, 31 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 342 at-bats for Washington last year.
Analysis: Kennedy, who is a career .275 hitter, will compete for a utility job in spring training. He can still steal bases, so he has some Rotisserie appeal if he can play with some regularity. Generally, though, he will be an AL-only option at best.
News: The Nationals have declined their $2 million option on 2B Adam Kennedy, instead giving him a $250,000 buyout. Kennedy made $1.25 million for last-place Washington in 2010, when he was part of a middle-infield rotation before eventually making way for rookie 2B Danny Espinosa. The 34-year-old Kennedy hit .249 with a .327 on-base percentage, three homers and 31 RBIs in 342 at-bats. It was his 12th season in the majors, and the Nationals were his fourth club. He has a .275 career batting average.
Analysis: Kennedy got the opportunity to earn a starting role with the Nats on the basis of a surprising 2009 comeback season with Oakland. In 2010, Kennedy returned to his punchless ways, and eventually settled back into a utility role. That is likely to be his fate for the 2011 season, so he probably won't get enough playing time to merit a spot outside of the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Washington INF Adam Kennedy understands he's taken a backseat role on the team now that Danny Espinosa has arrived and taken the leadoff spot. Kennedy told MLB.com that he understands the club needs to take a long look at Espinosa, who is expected to start at second next year. "Riggs [Manager Jim Riggleman] talked to me about Danny playing, and I enjoy watching him play as much as you guys have," Kennedy said. "He has done great. It's part of the game."
Analysis: Kennedy was playing more after the All-Star break but that ended once Espinosa joined the fold. Kennedy is batting just .252 for the year with three homers and 30 RBI and clearly isn't the top offensive option Fantasy owners would want to have active in mixed formats. With the decrease in time, Kennedy is barely an NL-only option at this point.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy was placed in the leadoff spot Tuesday against the Marlins for the fourth game in a row. Kennedy, who led off for the A's most of last season, told MLB.com that has enjoyed the batting atop the National's lineup. "I try to go up there and be aggressive," Kennedy said. "Not let the pitcher think I'm up there just to take a lot of pitches." Kennedy has gone 3 for 12 with two walks and an RBI over his first three games from the leadoff spot.
Analysis: The Nationals flopped Kennedy and Nyjer Morgan in the batting order to try and get Morgan hitting again. The light-hitting 2B is batting just .257 on the season with three homers and 29 RBI. He offers very little in the way of of extra-base hits, and should only be used in NL-only formats at this point.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy smacked a three-run double in the ninth inning of Tuesday's loss to the Braves. He now has five RBI in his last four games.
Analysis: Kennedy had one RBI in his last 13 games before this little spurt, so his Fantasy owners won't exactly be jumping for joy. Kennedy's 11 homers and 63 RBI from last season seem like light years away thanks to his poor offensive showing in 2010 and he can continue to be ignored in all but the deepest of NL-only leagues.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy went 1 for 3 with a single in a 6-0 loss to the Phillies on Sunday afternoon. Kennedy struck out once in the game and is now batting .262 on the year. Kennedy has gone 14 for 56 (.250) in August with a homer and six RBI.
Analysis: Kennedy has three home runs on the season to go with 24 RBI over 108 games. He clearly doesn't put together enough run production to matter in mixed Fantasy leagues. Leave him for NL-only formats.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy, back in the starting lineup after getting a day off Tuesday, went 2 for 5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Wednesday at Arizona. He had gone 1 for 10 over his previous four games.
Analysis: Kennedy will get most of the starts at second base now that Cristian Guzman is in Arizona, but he has been sitting in favor of Alberto Gonzalez against left-handed pitchers. He has enough speed to make an impact in NL-only formats, but his upside isn't high enough for mixed-league use.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy had a season-high four hits during Friday's win over the Phillies. He went 4 for 5 with a double, scoring two runs and driving in another. He added a stolen base, his third in his last 12 games.
Analysis: Kennedy has really rebounded from an extended slump that resulted in him batting .188 during the month of June. In 13 games since the All-Star break, he's batting .394 (13 for 33) with three stolen bases. However, he offers little in the way of extra-base hits, and is seeing sporadic playing time lately. He can be ignored outside of NL-only Fantasy formats.
News: Washington 2B Adam Kennedy went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI in Thursday's win over Cincinnati. He walked once and struck once, as he raised his average to .250 for the year. Kennedy hadn't had an RBI since July 3 against the Mets. Before that he went RBI-less in the month of June.
Analysis: Kennedy's two home runs, 17 RBI, 25 runs and 10 stolen bases are best left for the deepest of NL-only Fantasy leagues at this time. While he gives owners versatility in the infield, his lack of production trumps him having any big-time Fantasy impact.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy started and went 1 for 4 with a stolen base and a strikeout on Saturday in Florida. Kennedy is batting .242 on the season.
Analysis: Kennedy's last hit before Saturday was on July 8 against the Padres. Kennedy doesn't play often enough to matter in Fantasy leagues right now. He does have two homers and 16 RBI over 182 at-bats, but he's been seeing less playing time of late.
News: Nationals infielder Adam Kennedy was in the starting lineup for the second straight game Thursday against the Padres. According to the Washington Post, the Nationals are still committed to incorporating him into the lineup even though he has started only three times since June 27. "Adam, he's really done a good job," manager Jim Riggleman said. "As I've said earlier, when I was predominantly playing (Cristian) Guzman at second, and you know we like to play (Ian Desmond) at short for the most part, Adam really got out of the flow more than I should have let him get."
Analysis: Kennedy is batting just .240 on the year and .191 over his last 25 games, so in Fantasy, you don't necessarily want him playing more. Then again, he has been a good hitter in the past and is always a decent base-stealer. If the Nationals live up to their word, Kennedy could be a good NL-only option.
News: According to MLB.com, the Nationals announced Saturday that they will be going back to a middle-infield rotation. That means that Cristian Guzman will no longer be the everyday second baseman for the Nationals. Adam Kennedy is expected to see more playing time. "There is some tinkering with the lineup," manager Jim Riggleman said. "I think the one thing I would probably try to get back to is, get Kennedy more involved and get (Alberto) Gonzalez a little more involved. Earlier in the year, we were winning more games when that rotation was more involved."
Analysis: Even with the added playing time, Kennedy should not be looked upon in Fantasy leagues. He offers little power and can't hit for average. He'll also still lack everyday at-bats, making him a player to keep away from outside of the deepest of NL-only leagues.
News: According to MLB.com, the Phillies have not contacted the Nationals about trading for Adam Kennedy. With Chase Utley expected to miss eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his right thumb, there have been rumors swirling about Philadelphia acquiring the 34-year-old. Kennedy hasn't been paying any mind to the trade rumors. "My job is here to prepare every day to play wherever that might be," he said. "When I'm not playing -- and I'm not at this point -- I do enough to stay ready. Getting traded is a part of baseball." Kennedy is batting .238 this season with two homers and 15 RBI.
Analysis: After starting that year as the second basemen in Washington, Kennedy has seen his playing time dip with the resurgence of Cristain Guzman. Kennedy is also coming off a dreadful June in which he hit .188 with one run scored and three strikeouts. A change of scenery might do him some good, but for now leave Kennedy for the deepest of NL-only formats.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy was not in the starting lineup posted for Friday's series opener against the Orioles in Baltimore. Cristian Guzman got the start in his place.
Analysis: Kennedy has just one hit in his last three starts and has seen has batting average dip to .235 for the season. He doesn't hit for average or power and outside of some moderate steals contributions is not a player to trust in Fantasy.
News: Washington infielder Adam Kennedy entered Monday's win over the Royals as a late-game defensive replacement at first base. Kennedy is 0 for 5 over his last four appearances and his last base hit came on June 12 in Cleveland.
Analysis: The point we're trying to make here is that Kennedy is not getting regular at-bats of late and isn't doing much when he does. He has three hits in his last 10 appearances and has become just an NL-only Fantasy option, at best.
News: National 2B Adam Kennedy went 1 for 3 on Friday against the Indians. It was only his seond hit in the month of June. Kennedy went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a walk. He is now batting .245 on the year.
Analysis: Kennedy has not gotten a lot of playing time since the end of May. He usually enters as a defensive replacement late in games and does not produce much offensively anyway. He is just three for his last 19 (.158) with one RBI. He got the start on Friday because Christian Guzman has a sore hand. He should be left for the deepest of NL-only leagues at this point.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy returned to the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres. The 34-year-old did not start the past two games but pinch-hit, going 1 for 2. Kennedy is batting .258 this season with 14 RBI.
Analysis: Kennedy gets some playing time in the Nationals infield rotation and is a defensive replacement late in games. He has a .338 OBP with seven steals this year but should be left for NL-only only formats until he gets a starting job.
News: Nationals INF Cristian Guzman was not in the starting lineup posted for Wednesday's game against the Giants in San Francisco. He was replaced in the lineup by Adam Kennedy.
Analysis: The Nats continue to employ a three-man rotation in the middle infield spots with the addition of Ian Desmond. Fantasy owners should consider Kennedy the weaker option of the three, however, and his lack of fluid playing time makes him somebody to avoid outside of the deepest of leagues.
News: The Washington Post reports that Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy has started just five of the past 11 games as the hot-hitting Cristian Guzman continues to take playing time away from him.
Analysis: While Kennedy's .252 average might not seem horrible for a second baseman, it's 25 points below his career average. Combine that with the fact Guzman is hitting a scorching .345, and we have ourselves a bit of a situation. Kennedy still gets a decent amount of starts, so remains worth using in deeper NL-only leagues for now, but his owners should be keeping close tabs on his number of at-bats over the next couple of weeks.
News: Washington INF Adam Kennedy started on Saturday against the Orioles in interleague play. Kennedy started at shortstop and Ian Desmond took a seat for the afternoon contest.
Analysis: Kennedy entered Saturday's start batting .222 over his last seven games with two doubles and an RBI over 18 at-bats. He's hitting .252 on the season. Kennedy is scuffling right now but continues to get semi-regular playing time. He is still probably just waiver-wire fodder in mixed Fantasy leagues, however.
News: Nationals infielder Adam Kennedy was in the posted lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets. He replaced Cristian Guzman at second base, after not starting on Wednesday.
Analysis: Kennedy is hitting .286 over his last six games with two doubles. But splitting time with Cristian Guzman at second, Kennedy's Fantasy value is limited to NL-only formats at this time.
News: Washington INF Adam Kennedy returned to the bench Wednesday after two straight starts because Adam Dunn returned to the starting lineup. Kennedy went 3 for 8 with two doubles in two starts. He's batting .255 on the year.
Analysis: Kennedy is hitting .286 over his last six games with two doubles and saw a slight boost in playing time with Dunn injured. Dunn is back and Kennedy should go back to being an NL-only Fantasy option, at best.
News: After going 0 for 4 in Game One of Saturday's doubleheader with the Rockies, Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy was not in the starting lineup for the nightcap. He is batting .247 on the year.
Analysis: Kennedy had his eight-game hitting streak snapped in Game One on Saturday and has played at lot at age 34. He can still hit for average and has five stolen bases, but due to his lack of power, Kennedy is best left for NL-only formats.
News: Washington INF Cristian Guzman returned to the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Mets in the Big Apple. Guzman sat out the previous two games with Adam Kennedy starting. Kennedy returned to the bench Tuesday.
Analysis: Kennedy is sitting amid a six-game hitting streak and homered on Monday in New York. Still, he hasn't had more than one hit in any of those games and is still batting just .247 on the year over 85 at-bats. Guzman has played a bit more often this year and Kennedy is not a Fantasy option for mixed leagues. He is an NL-only guy, at best.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy hit his second home run of the year on Monday night against the Mets. Kennedy's solo shot came in the third inning off starter John Maine and was followed by a Ryan Zimmerman solo homer. He finished the night with that as his only hit but walked twice while extending his six game hitting streak, in the 3-2 win.
Analysis: Kennedy is only batting .247 on the year but has an on-base percentage over .300 and is producing at age 34. But until he starts hitting more consistently, Kennedy doesn't offer much Fantasy value. Reserve him for now in standard NL-only formats.
News:Adam Kennedy, who has started five of the last six games, was out of the Washington lineup for their series opener against the Marlins. Cristian Guzman got the start at second base.
Analysis: Kennedy, who is hitting .227 for the year, hasn't been able to get his bat going. When Ryan Zimmerman was on the DL, Kennedy was playing regularly at third base, but now with the Nats' star back in the lineup, manager Jim Riggleman has the option of going with Kennedy or Guzman at second base. Kennedy isn't offering much Fantasy value as it is, but if he continues to slump, his playing time could be at stake. Reserve him for now in standard NL-only formats.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy was back in the lineup Wednesday against the Braves after getting a day off.
Analysis: Kennedy is off to a rough start in 2010 with just a .214 average and .269 on-base percentage this season after having one of his better campaigns in 2009. He remains worth worrying about in just NL-only formats.
News:Adam Kennedy was in a 2-for-20 slump before hitting his first home run of the season in Wednesday's game against the Cubs. He came into Wednesday's game hitless since April 23.
Analysis: Kennedy is a light-hitting middle infielder who has no consistent pop in his bat and does not hit for average. Despite his homer on Wednesday, he remains a player to avoid in most Fantasy formats.
News:Adam Kennedy, who did not start Washington's game in Chicago on Tuesday night, was back in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale. He played third base, continuing to fill in for Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring), and batted second.
Analysis: Kennedy has been slumping due to a lack of gap power so far this year. He is capable of hitting close to .300, but if he doesn't get it going, he could lose his starting gig. Manager Jim Rigggleman has already been sitting him against some lefty starters, Ryan Zimmerman could return to third base this weekend, and Cristian Guzman has been playing well at second base. Keep Kennedy active in NL-only formats for now, but be on the lookout for potential replacements.
News:Adam Kennedy, who has been filling in for Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) at third base, was left out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs. He is hitless in his last 10 at-bats. Alberto Gonzalez took Kennedy's place at the hot corner.
Analysis: Kennedy has had a rough spell at the plate, but he should return to the starting lineup, regardless of whether Ryan Zimmerman comes back on Wednesday, as expected. He will likely shift back to second base once Zimmerman is back in the Washington lineup. Despite the recent struggles and the night off, Kennedy is still worth an active roster spot in NL-only leagues.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy, who has recently started at third base with Ryan Zimmerman sidelined by a hamstring injury, went 0 for 3 with a walk Sunday against the Dodgers. He's batting .118 (2 for 17) over his last six games.
Analysis: Kennedy has two stolen bases during that stretch, so at least he's still contributing in that category. He's capable of hitting in the .280 range, so if left alone, he'd probably get hot eventually. But with Cristian Guzman around, this slow start puts him at risk of going to the bench once Zimmerman returns. Better leave him for NL-only leagues.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy was not in the lineup posted for Tuesday's game against Colorado. He was replaced by Cristian Guzman.
Analysis: Neither player has much offensive upside, but Guzman can hit for average. Adjust your lineups accordingly in NL-only daily leagues.
News: With a 3 for 4 performance Sunday in an 11-7 loss to the Brewers, Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy pulled his batting average from .214 to .281. He has six base hits over his last 10 at-bats.
Analysis: Last season's comeback in Oakland, when Kennedy hit .289 with 11 home runs and 20 stolen bases, was no fluke. He is a very good contact hitter who also brings decent pop for a second baseman. Kennedy is a solid play in NL-only leagues, though he doesn't have quite enough power to matter in standard mixed leagues.
News: Nationals INF Adam Kennedy gave his team the lead on Friday night with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was Kennedy's second hit of the night and third time on base after a sixth inning walk. Kennedy also scored a run after his single in the eighth to widen the Nationals lead over the Brewers to 5-3, which was the final score.
Analysis: Kennedy continues to be a consistent player after all of these years. He now has six RBI this season. He does not offer much in power numbers, with 13 being his career-high in homers, but he has always hit for average. Kennedy is a low-end NL-only Fantasy option.
News: Washington 2B Adam Kennedy came up big in the first inning of Wednesday's high-scoring affair against the Phillies. Kennedy came to bat with the bases loaded in the first inning and unloaded them with a monster three-run double. The Phillies would eventually come back and win 14-7. Kennedy finished 1 for 3 with a walk and is batting .160 on the year.
Analysis: That was a big spot for Kennedy to pick up just his fourth base hit of the season. He is playing consistently, just not playing well. Kennedy is a low-end NL-only Fantasy option.
News: Nationals 2B Adam Kennedy drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies. He finished 0 for 3.
Analysis: A career .277 hitter with only 68 home runs in 4,587 lifetime at-bats, Kennedy is a viable Fantasy option in NL-only formats.
News: Washington 2B Adam Kennedy drove in three runs on two hits including a double on Sunday against the Marlins. Kennedy is batting .324 this spring.
Analysis: Kennedy has hits in nine of his last 10 games and five straight right now for the Nationals. His long history of mediocrity and 34 years of age make him a low-end Fantasy option but on the Nationals he will get plenty of opportunity to play. That makes him a bit of a sleeper for the late rounds of drafts.
News: Free-agent second baseman Adam Kennedy and the Nationals finalized a $1.5 million, one-year contract Friday. The deal, agreed to a week earlier subject to a physical, calls for a $1.25 million salary this year and includes a $2 million club option for 2011 with a $500,000 buyout. He provides a defensive upgrade at second base for the Nationals, who also have added catcher Ivan Rodriguez, starting pitcher Jason Marquis, closer Matt Capps and relievers Brian Bruney, Tyler Walker and Eddie Guardado. Kennedy's acquisition probably means Cristian Guzman will stay at shortstop. There had been some discussion of moving him to second base. Kennedy has a career .277 batting average, with 68 homers and 486 RBI while playing for the Cardinals, Angels and Athletics. He was voted MVP of the 2002 ALCS with the Angels.
Analysis: The 34-year-old hit .289 with 11 homers and 63 RBI for the Athletics last season, his 11th in the majors. He hit .390 the first month and finished strong, hitting .349 in September and October. And while he finished the season hitting only .289, the fact remains he had several periods where he mattered in mixed leagues, aided in part by his 11 home runs and 20 stolen bases. His long history of mediocrity and 34 years of age make him a low-end Fantasy option at best, but assuming remains a full-timer for the Nats and doesn't fall into the platoon trap as a left-handed hitter, you shouldn't dismiss him entirely.
News: Free agent 2B Adam Kennedy and the Washington Nationals have agreed to a contract pending a physical, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity, because the contract had not yet been signed. Kennedy hit .289 with 11 homers and 63 RBI for Oakland last season, and would provide a defensive upgrade at second base for the Nationals. His acquisition probably means Cristian Guzman will stay at shortstop, after there had been some discussion of moving him to second base.
Analysis: In 2009 Kennedy hit .390 the first month and finished strong, hitting .349 in September and October. And while he finished the season hitting only .289, the fact remains he had several periods where he mattered in mixed leagues, aided in part by his 11 home runs and 20 stolen bases. His long history of mediocrity and 34 years of age make him a low-end Fantasy option at best, but assuming he lands in a full-time role and doesn't fall into the platoon trap as a left-handed hitter, you shouldn't dismiss him entirely.
News: From The Sports Xchange notes: 3B Adam Kennedy wasn't in the A's starting lineup Sunday against left-hander Joe Saunders, but he pinch hit in the eighth and provided a sacrifice fly. He is batting .382 in September with 13 multi-hit games in 22 games. He has 19 runs, nine doubles, 14 RBI and 12 walks in the month. Overall, Kennedy is third in the league in hitting with runners in scoring position, at .371.
Analysis: Kennedy has enjoyed a fine comeback season and could compete for a starting job in 2010. He figures to be merely an AL-only option, though.
News: Oakland INF Adam Kennedy had another big game on Thursday in a 12-3 win over the Rangers. As the leadoff hitter, Kennedy went 3 for 5 from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
Analysis: Kennedy has at least two hits in four of his last six starts and is having a tremendous month of September, hitting .360 with 10 RBI and a home run. He is a nice sleeper for deeper mixed leagues, especially while he's going this well.
News:Adam Kennedy had three hits and drove in three runs to help Oakland beat the Indians on Sunday and match its season-high seven-game win streak.
Analysis: After a bad August (.224), Kennedy has scorched again in September. Consider him a nice sleeper in deeper mixed leagues when he is going well. This renaissance season puts him in the mix to be a regular again in 2010, albeit position and team figure to be TBD.
News:Ryan Sweeney had four RBI and Adam Kennedy added three more as last-place Oakland won for the sixth time in eight games Monday.
Analysis: Sweeney and Kennedy are viable options in AL-only leagues down the stretch. Their lack of home run power or steals potential keeps them from being reliable mixed league contributors, though.
News: A's 2B Adam Kennedy picked up his third straight two-hit game Thursday when he went 2 for 5 with a run scored in a loss to the Mariners.
Analysis: Kennedy is clearly seeing the ball very well at the moment, so keep an eye on his stats over the weekend. If he stays hot, think about activating him in deeper mixed leagues for Fantasy Week 23 (Sept. 7-13).
News: Oakland 2B Adam Kennedy went 3 for 5 on Saturday in a 3-2 win over the Tigers. Kennedy singled all three times and stole his 15th base of the season. He also scored in the game and is batting .282.
Analysis: Kennedy has the occasional awesome night but tends to have too many off nights in between of late. He went 3 for 5 last night and 5 for 5 back on Aug. 15 against the White Sox. In between, however, Kennedy went just 1 for 20. He's only hitting .237 this month and is largely an AL-only Fantasy option. He does carry some deeper mixed-league Fantasy appeal, however.
News:Adam Kennedy tied his career high with five hits for Oakland Saturday against the White Sox. He had not had a hit in his previous two games.
Analysis: Kennedy raised his batting average 11 points on Saturday by going 5 for 5. Kennedy has had a surprisingly productive season, batting .291 with 10 homers and 46 RBI so far. Consider him a solid play in even mixed formats.
News: Oakland INF Adam Kennedy played well on Tuesday in a loss to the Orioles. Kennedy homered in the 5th inning for a solo shot. It was his 10th of the season. He added a single and a walk in the game. His batting average is at .288 on the year.
Analysis: Kennedy has enjoyed a renaissance. In fact, this is shaping up to be a career year. Consider him a sleeper for deeper leagues when he is going well like this.
News:Adam Kennedy hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning, one of four Oakland home runs in a 7-5 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night. "Adam is such an excellent player," manager Bob Geren said. "He can figure when to dial it up. That's a sign of a good, experienced player."
Analysis: Kennedy has enjoyed a renaissance. In fact, this is shaping up to be a career year. Consider him a sleeper for deeper leagues when he is going well like this.
News: Athletics infielder Adam Kennedy went 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout Monday against the Rangers, ending a nine-game hitting streak during which he hit .333 (15 for 45).
Analysis: Kennedy continues to swing the bat better than expected, offering a good enough combination of power and speed to suffice as a starter in mixed leagues. He's probably a little underowned in Fantasy at only 38 percent.
News:Adam Kennedy homered on the first pitch of the game and the Oakland Athletics again outslugged Boston Wednesday night, winning 8-6 one day after beating the Red Sox with a 21-hit attack. Kennedy went 2 for 5 with his 8th long ball of the season.
Analysis: Kennedy has a batting average near .300, eight homers and 38 RBI on the season for the A's. He's been nothing but solid with Oakland and deserves to be a mixed-league Fantasy option.
News: Athletics 3B Adam Kennedy continued to provide underrated numbers out of the leadoff spot Tuesday at Boston, going 5 for 7 with a double and three RBI during an 11-inning game.
Analysis: Kennedy bumped his batting average up to .295 with the performance, and he continues to provide enough home runs and steals to have low-end mixed-league appeal. He might be a little under-owned right now at 33 percent.
News: Oakland leadoff man Adam Kennedy, a left-handed hitter, was rested against CC Sabathia on Thursday.
Analysis: Kennedy has a hit in eight of his last nine games with three multi-hit games mixed in. He doesn't hit for much power with seven homers but does have 11 stolen bases, making him a decent low-end Fantasy option.
News: Oakland 2B Adam Kennedy hit his seventh home run of the season on Saturday in a 7-2 win over the Rays. He went 1 for 4 in the game as the team's leadoff hitter, scoring two runs and driving two in. He also had a walk and a strikeout.
Analysis: Kennedy had hits in six straight games before getting the streak snapped on Friday. He started a new streak with a homer on Saturday. Keep using Kennedy in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues but little else.
News: Oakland INF Adam Kennedy started at third base on Monday and batted lead off against the Red Sox. Kennedy went 3 for 5 at the plate with three singles and his 9th stolen base. He drove in two runs and his batting average is at .296 for the year.
Analysis: Kennedy has hit in four straight for Oakland and six of seven with just three RBI over that span. He has two steals in his last two games and is running a bit more as the lead off guy. Kennedy will see regular at bats in the Oakland infield and can be used in the deeper mixed Fantasy leagues.
News: A's 2B Adam Kennedy had two hits, including his 11th double, and one run in four at-bats Friday against the Indians. Kennedy has three multi-hit games in his last six outings and is 7 for 25 (.280) in that span.
Analysis: Now that Kennedy has returned to the American League in 2009, he finally seems in his comfort zone after two rocky years with the Cardinals. Kennedy has shown some surprising pop early in the year, but he is still best left as a low-end Fantasy 2B.
News: The Oakland Tribune reports that A's INF Adam Kennedy will remain in the lineup once 2B Mark Ellis comes off the DL on Sunday. Kennedy will play some 1B, 3B, OF and DH.
Analysis: Kennedy has earned his lineup spot with a .301 average, but has struggled mightily in June with just a .214 average. He remains a low-end emergency option in deeper mixed leagues, but AL-only owners can rely on him for now unless this slump continues.
News:Adam Kennedy was impressive with his bat and his glove. Kennedy tied his career high with four hits, including a home run, and scored three times as the Oakland Athletics beat San Diego 6-3 on Saturday night, continuing the Padres' interleague woes. Kennedy also made some nice plays at second base, including bare-handing Tony Gwynn Jr.'s drag bunt opening the Padres' first and throwing him out, then starting a double play in the eighth inning with Adrian Gonzalez coming up. "From the first play of the game it was just his game," manager Bob Geren said. "He took away a hit from Tony Gwynn on a spectacular play." Kennedy said his defense "hasn't been great so far this year, but I'm better than that I know that. Having a game like this, it wasn't the best for me but it was a good one." Kennedy finished 4 for 5 with two RBI as he hit his 6th homer of the season. He's hitting .312.
Analysis: Kennedy continues to hit well above his supposed ceiling this season for the A's. Thrown to the wayside by the Rays before the season, he's found an everyday home with the A's and hit .390 in May with four homers and 15 RBI in 82 at bats. Thus far in June, Kennedy is only hitting .222 but his average is still over .300 and he continues to produce like a worthy deeper mixed-league Fantasy second baseman.
News: Athletics 2B Adam Kennedy, who was batting .390 to begin the month of June, went 0 for 2 with two walks Thursday at the Dodgers, dropping his batting average to .303. He's batting .172 (5 for 29) over his last eight games.
Analysis: Kennedy had an impressive run there for a while, but you can only expect so much from a 33-year-old journeyman middle infielder. He can steal a few bases, but likely not enough to make a significant impact in mixed leagues. Consider him a worth stopgap -- nothing more.
News:Adam Kennedy hit a tying two-run homer in the three-run eighth for the A's in a 4-3 win over the Twins on Thursday. All five of Kennedy's homers have come within his first month of being with the club. He was 1 for 2 in the game with a walk and the two RBI that came on the homer.
Analysis: Kennedy is hitting .328 with five homers and 21 RBI this season in only 32 games. He is worth taking a look at in AL-only and deeper mixed league formats and is a player whose Fantasy stock is on the rise.
News: A's 2B Adam Kennedy went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's game against Minnesota. That gave him multiple hits in three of his last five games.
Analysis: Kennedy has 39 hits in 116 at bats this season, giving him a solid .336 batting average so far. He doesn't have much pop, but can be a useful low-end starter in AL-only formats and real deep mixed leagues when he is going well as he is now.
News: Oakland 2B Adam Kennedy homered twice, including a one-out tiebreaker in the ninth for the first run allowed by Texas reliever Frank Francisco this season, and the Athletics ended a four-game skid with a 5-4 victory over the AL West-leading Rangers on Sunday. With the game tied, Kennedy hit a 1-0 pitch off Francisco (1-1) into the right field seats, ending a streak of 28 appearances without allowing an earned run. Francisco had 17 2/3 scoreless innings in his first 17 appearances this season, the most in the majors without allowing a run. Kennedy also hit a solo homer in the first to give Oakland early momentum.
Analysis: Kennedy continues to play over his head for the Athletics and Fantasy owners aren't minding it one but. He is hitting .390 on the season with 15 RBI and four homers. He is a good base stealer as well, making him an intriguing option in Rotisserie formats as well. Keep him active in AL-only formats while he's hot like this, but know that he will cool off eventually.
News: Athletics 2B Adam Kennedy went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double and his fourth and fifth stolen bases of the season Friday in the first game of a doubleheader at Texas. He actually lifted his batting to over .400 with the performance but then went 0-for-4 in the second game.
Analysis: Kennedy isn't this good, but the Athletics are taking full advantage of his base stealing abilities, which makes him an intriguing add in Rotisserie leagues. Just keep in mind that when he cools off, he obviously won't be on base enough to run as much.
News: Oakland 2B Adam Kennedy stayed scorching hot on Monday in a win over the Mariners. Kennedy led off for the A's and went 4-for-4 in the game with two doubles and two RBI. He also walked and scored a run. Kennedy is hitting .441 on the season.
Analysis: Kennedy was wallowing down in Triple-A for the Rays before being traded to an everyday situation with the A's. All he's done since is hit .441 with two homers and 11 RBI in 59 at bats. He has three straight multi-hit games and nine hits total during that span and he has multi-hit games in nine of the 15 games in which he's played this season. As long as he stays even nearly this hot he should be starting in the majority of Fantasy leagues at a thin position, however, we expect him to come back down to Earth at some point.
News: A's 2B Adam Kennedy went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks. Kennedy now has eight multi-hit games in his last 11, and is hitting .400 (22-for-55) in May.
Analysis: Kennedy has been superb for Oakland since coming over from the Rays, and is clearly making the most of playing every day. He's going to attract plenty of attention in mixed leagues if he keeps this kind of hitting up, but remains more of an AL-only option for the time being.
News: A's 2B Adam Kennedy was a triple short of the cycle on Saturday night in a loss to Arizona. Kennedy doubled, singled and homered in the game and finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. He also walked and is batting .400 on the season. Kennedy hit his second home run of the year.
Analysis: Kennedy has three three-hit games in his last seven contests and two other two-hit games during that span with two homers and seven RBI. This is unprecedented power production from a guy who hit just two home runs in 339 at bats all of last season with St. Louis. We are absolutely sure this power won't last but you might consider giving the everyday starter for the A's a look in AL-only and deeper mixed formats while he's hot.
News: Athletics 2B Adam Kennedy continued his hot hitting since joining Oakland, going 3-for-5 with two RBI at Tampa Bay on Thursday. He has hit safely in each of his last five games, batting .500 (11-for-22) during that stretch.
Analysis: Kennedy doesn't have much power. He can steal a few bases, but Oakland generally doesn't like to send their runners. If nothing else, everyday at-bats make Kennedy worth using in deeper AL-only leagues. He'll likely become a reserve once Mark Ellis comes off the DL.
News: Oakland 2B Adam Kennedy went 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI on Tuesday in a win over the Rays in 11 innings. Kennedy is batting .371 on the season.
Analysis: Kennedy now has 35 at bats this season for the A's and is the furthest thing from an everyday player. He's a nice bat off the bench for the A's and that makes him a nice bat to bench in Fantasy.
News: A's 2B Adam Kennedy went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, walk and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Tigers.
Analysis: Kennedy's blast was his first of the year, and he has just three RBI. Only worry about him in the deepest of AL-only formats with his lack of power and speed.
News:Adam Kennedy went 2-for-3 with a double Wednesday, his first multihit game since being acquired in a minor league trade from Tampa Bay last week.
Analysis: Kennedy is little more than a deeper AL-only Fantasy option at this point. He will head back to a reserve role come June when Mark Ellis is ready to return from the DL.
News: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that A's manager Bob Geren said Friday that he views Adam Kennedy as an everyday player. He will be in the starting lineup Saturday. "I'm looking forward to watching him play in the green and gold," Geren said. "I've watched him play against us enough." Kennedy was added to the Oakland Athletics' roster Saturday.
Analysis: The 2002 ALCS MVP is a .276 hitter in 10 major-league seasons. He batted .280 in 115 games for St. Louis last year. He was hitting .280 with three homers for Triple-A Durham. The A's on Friday acquired Kennedy from Tampa Bay for a player to be named later, shoring up an infield that lost three players to the disabled list in a three-day span last week. Kennedy will be worth taking a flier on in AL-only formats, though his offensive upside is limited at this stage in his career.
News: The A's have acquired infielder Adam Kennedy from the Rays and have assigned him to Triple-A Sacramento.
Analysis: Kennedy had played in 23 games at Triple-A Durham as a 2B but also made starts at first and third. He is merely a low-end option if he does make it up with the big club at some point.
News: The Tampa Tribune reports that six veteran non-roster invitees have been told they wont be on the Rays opening day roster: 2B Adam Kennedy, OF Jon Weber, OF Ray Sadler, SS Ray Olmedo, C Michel Hernandez and OF Chris Richard.
Analysis: Kennedy was the only one in this group who had a chance at having some Fantasy value, but he can now be ignored just like the others.
News: The Rays' Adam Kennedy hit his first home run of the spring Wednesday against the Pirates, finishing 1-for-2 with two RBI. The second baseman will play left field against the Tigers in Lakeland on Thursday as part of Rays manager Joe Maddon's effort to turn him into a super utility player.
Analysis: Kennedy is a light hitter slated to play a reserve role, meaning he has virtually no Fantasy appeal. Even in deeper AL-only leagues, he's nothing more than a last resort.
News: Rays 2B Adam Kennedy was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored Monday at the Cardinals. The Rays signed Kennedy to a minor-league contract after the Cardinals released him in early February. Kennedy holds no grudges against the Cardinals, although he and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa had their differences during his second of two seasons in St. Louis, mostly over Kennedy's playing time. La Russa and Kennedy have not spoken, but La Russa plans on calling his former player. "I'm going to say what I said to him all along," La Russa said. "It was nothing personal about him. I have great respect for him personally and professionally."
Analysis: With Akinori Iwamura firmly entrenched at second base for the Rays, Kennedy would play no more than a reserve role if he makes the team. Ignore the light hitter even in AL-only leagues.
News: The Rays bolstered their infield depth Tuesday, signing second baseman Adam Kennedy to a minor-league contract. Kennedy was released by St. Louis last week. "We talk a lot about depth. I think this move fits perfectly in line with that," Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said. "He's a tremendous defender, does a lot of things well. We're anxious to watch him play on a daily basis."
Analysis: Kennedy would clearly reside behind Akinori Iwamura on the depth chart, so his signing shouldn't make much of an impact in Fantasy. Don't bother drafting him except in the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: The Cardinals released Adam Kennedy on Monday. The team requested waivers Kennedy that will expire Wednesday, when he will become an unrestricted free agent. Kennedy is due to make $4 million next season, the last year of a three-year contract. His new club would only have to pay him the $400,000 minimum while the Cardinals would be responsible for the rest. Several players from within the organization will compete for the starting job at second base, including Skip Schumaker, who has spent his entire professional career as an outfielder. "We have exhausted all trade possibilities for Adam, and have decided that it was within both the club and the player's best interests to give Adam his unconditional release," GM John Mozeliak said. "As we move forward, we feel that it is best to try and fill the second base position with other players from within our organization."
Analysis: The 33-year-old Kennedy came up with St. Louis in 1999 before being traded to Anaheim, where he was part of the 2002 World Series championship squad. He is a career .276 hitter in 10 seasons. The Cardinals signed Kennedy as a free agent before the 2007 season and he hit. just .219. He improved to .280 last season but never seemed to mesh with manager Tony La Russa. At age 33, Kennedy is nothing more than a slap-hitting second baseman. Consider him nothing more than a last resort in the deepest of Fantasy leagues, since his days as a starter are over.
News: St. Louis 2B Adam Kennedy went 2-for-4 on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Kennedy drove in a run and is batting .274.
Analysis: Kennedy, who signed a three-year, $10 million deal in 2007, has seen his playing time decrease this season. He had 218 at-bats before the All-Star break but only 101 since then. He primarily sees starts because of his glove and remains a low-end NL-only Fantasy option. No matter where he lands next season, that won't change.
News: Cardinals second baseman Adam Kennedy expects this to be his last season with St. Louis. "I'm probably not going to be here (next year)," he said Friday before the Cardinals played the Cubs. He said he hadn't asked to be traded, but wouldn't mind playing for another team in 2009. "For next year that will probably be the best situation," he said. "I don't think I'm done playing. I want to be able to play everyday." Ironically, Kennedy hit a grand slam as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cubs 12-6 Friday.
Analysis: Kennedy, who signed a three-year, $10 million deal in 2007, has seen his playing time decrease this season. He had 218 at-bats before the All-Star break but only 97 since then. He primarily sees starts because of his glove and remains a low-end NL-only Fantasy option. No matter where he lands next season, that won't change.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Adam Kennedy started in right field for the first time in his first big-league career after saying before the game that he asked to be traded because his playing time had been cut in the second half of the season. "That's the toughest part, not having a role," Kennedy said. "I realize it's not going to happen here."
Analysis: Kennedy doesn't usually play a key role and primarily sees starts because of his glove and remains a low-end NL-only Fantasy option. No matter where he lands next season, that won't change.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Adam Kennedy has driven in four runs since Aug. 8, three of them in two games against Florida RHP Ricky Nolasco.
Analysis: He doesn't usually play a key role in the Cardinals offense. Kennedy primarily sees starts because of his glove and remains a low-end NL-only Fantasy option.
News: St. Louis 2B Adam Kennedy went 2-for-2 against the Marlins on Wednesday but it was the two times he didn't get on base where he did damage. Kennedy hit two sacrifice flies on the night. He also scored a run for the Cardinals.
Analysis: He doesn't usually play a key role in the Cardinals offense. Kennedy primarily sees starts because of his glove and remains a low-end NL-only Fantasy option.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy played a key role in Wednesday's 7-2 win against the Braves. St. Louis broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh after Jair Jurrjens (10-6) retired the first two hitters. Adam Kennedy kept the inning going with a single, and Albert Pujols drove him home with a double into the left-field corner. Greg Norton got to the ball quickly and hit shortstop Yunel Escobar with a perfect relay. Escobar appeared to have time to get Kennedy, who had just rounded third, but the strong-armed shortstop inexplicably double-pumped before deciding not to even throw home. Kennedy finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs, one RBI and his 12th double.
Analysis: Kennedy had his first multi-hit game since July 6 and had just five hits in his previous 16 appearances. He doesn't usually play a key role in the Cardinals offense. Kennedy primarily sees starts because of his glove and remains a low-end NL-only Fantasy option.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy, who missed three games with a foot injury, returned to the lineup Thursday against the Mets. He went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Analysis: Kennedy is hitting .270 with one homer this season and is stuck behind the hot-hitting Aaron Miles right now in St. Louis. He is only worth using when getting full-time at-bats, so continue to bench him in deeper NL-only formats for the time being.
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy fouled a ball off his foot last week in Detroit, and did not start the first three games of this series against the Mets. "My understanding is every day off he gets helps heal a little bit," manager Tony La Russa said. "No reason to rush it."
Analysis: Kennedy is hitting .264 with one homer this season and is stuck behind the hot-hitting Aaron Miles right now in St. Louis. He is only worth using when getting full-time at-bats, so continue to bench him in deeper NL-only formats for the time being.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Adam Kennedy doubled in the second inning Friday against Kansas City to extend his hitting streak to a season-high seven games.
Analysis: Kennedy has been stringing together a lot of 1-for-4's and isn't exactly tearing the cover off the ball. But his modest hitting streak could be of use in some larger NL-only formats. He'll continue to see regular at-bats and that makes him useful as a low-end stopgap.
News: On Tuesday at Detroit, Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy played 1B for the first time in his career, which started in 1999, and he had to borrow a glove for the night. He went 1-for-4 in the game with an RBI and a run scored.
Analysis: Kennedy will have first-base eligibility now in some leagues, but if you wouldn't want to start him at a weak position like second base, why would you want to start him at a strong position like first base? The light hitter remains useful only in deeper NL-only leagues.
News: St. Louis 2B Adam Kennedy picked up his first home run of the season Saturday in a defeat of the Philadelphia Phillies. Kennedy hit a two-run shot in the first off starter Adam Eaton. He finished the day 2-for-4 and is batting .253 on the season.
Analysis: Kennedy is starting to see more starts than Aaron Miles, but he is a light hitter who doesn't figure to be helpful outside of deeper NL-only formats as a stopgap. The upside isn't there with a hitter who doesn't have much power and doesn't hit for average. He's a defensive specialist.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Adam Kennedy made his first start in the last four games Friday against Philadelphia. He was one for five.
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 2B Adam Kennedy met Thursday with manager Tony La Russa to discuss his lack of playing time. He was out of the lineup a third straight day against the Reds. La Russa started Aaron Miles at second base for the second straight game Thursday after Brendan Ryan played there Tuesday.
Analysis: La Russa said Kennedy would start against Phillies right-hander Kyle Kendrick Friday, but explained that he'll still be splitting starts. "Miles is getting shorted more than anyone. So he's played back-to-back," La Russa said. "I think Adam's looked like he has for most of his career, but I'm going to play all four guys (including Cesar Izturis)." Kennedy entered Thursday 4-for-13 on the road trip, but 8-for-48 since May 13, dropping his average from .283 to .248. "I think with Brendan and Aaron it's not that big of a difference," La Russa said. "Adam has always been a core guy, so it's more of an adjustment for him. I think he can handle it. When he plays, he needs to play his tail off." All three are only worth considering in NL-only formats as middle infielders.
News:Brendan Ryan started at second base against Cincinnati RHP Homer Bailey instead of left-handed-hitting Adam Kennedy Tuesday and was a force. Ryan had two hits, two stolen bases and scored three runs.
Analysis: Ryan and Kennedy are nothing more than low-end options for the deepest of NL-only leagues because they lack pop or steals potential. The fact they could share time only furthers the case against trusting them.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy was 1-for-24 before lofting a single in the seventh inning Thursday against the Astros. He finished the game 1-for-3.
Analysis: Kennedy is getting more at-bats than Aaron Miles and Brendan Ryan in a second-base rotation, but his batting average, slugging and OBP are the worst of the three. With no everyday role, Kennedy is only worth holding on to in deeper NL-only leagues, just in case he somehow wins the 2B job outright.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy is 1-for-22 in his last nine games as St. Louis continue to rotate guys at second base.
Analysis: Kennedy is getting more at-bats than Aaron Miles and Brendan Ryan, but his batting average, slugging and OBP are the worst of the three. With no everyday role, Kennedy is only worth holding on to in deeper NL-only leagues, just in case he somehow wins the 2B job outright.
News: MLB.com reports the Cardinals currently enroll the help of Adam Kennedy, Aaron Miles and Brendan Ryan at second base, and are quite pleased with their efforts. "We have a good situation now where we've got a nice number of combinations that are producing," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said. Kennedy has made 19 starts at second base, while Miles had 10 and Ryan had two. Ryan started Friday and Saturday against the Cubs, and Kennedy started there in the series finale Sunday. "It wasn't until early in the afternoon when we decided to play Ryan instead of Kennedy (Saturday)," La Russa said. "He's had several days off -- more than you would like him to have. But we did have a good game Friday night and Brendan contributed, so I went ahead and went with Brendan."
Analysis: The left-handing-hitting Kennedy is batting .310 with three doubles, nine RBI, nine runs scored and two stolen bases in 22 games. He has an on-base percentage of .359. The switch-hitting Miles is batting .300 with two doubles, five RBI and six runs scored in 20 games. He has an on-base percentage of .354. The right-handed-hitting Ryan is batting .333 with one double, two RBI, three runs scored and one stolen base in nine games since coming off the disabled list. He has an on-base percentage of .357. La Russa continues to rotate all three players at second and hit them in the No. 2 hole in front of Albert Pujols. However, it hurts their Fantasy value since none of them have an everyday role. Kennedy will see the most starts, but like Miles and Ryan, all three players are just NL-only Fantasy options.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy, batting second for the second time this season Sunday against the Cubs, went 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored. He is 4-for-6 with three walks, two RBI and three runs scored in two games batting second.
Analysis: Kennedy upped his batting average to .329 with the performance and is certainly looking serviceable in NL-only leagues right now. He doesn't have much power, but he might steal double-digit bases and hit for a good average if he gets semi-regular at-bats.
News: Manager Tony La Russa hit Adam Kennedy second for the first time this season and Chris Duncan dropped to sixth to offer more power near the bottom of the order Tuesday. Duncan fanned twice, walked and singled. Kennedy was in the middle of a three-run inning in the first and four-run frame in the second, as he walked and singled.
Analysis: Kennedy is nothing more than a deeper NL-only option at this point in his career because of a lack of true pop or steals potential. Duncan is off to a slow start, but he is a streaky hitter who will eventually help in all formats when he is finally going well.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored Monday against the Reds, raising his average to .303.
Analysis: Kennedy is in a platoon situation with Aaron Miles, but he doesn't provide much more than a high average and a few stolen bases in Fantasy. Leave him for NL-only leagues.
News:Adam Kennedy was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the surprising Cardinals on Tuesday. He was just 3-for-17 on the Cardinals' just-completed seven-game trip.
Analysis: Kennedy's lack of homer or steals potential makes him nothing more than a deeper NL-only option at this point. He can be ignored in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy, a left-handed hitter who expects to platoon with right-hander Aaron Miles this season, went 2-for-3 in the season opener Tuesday against the Rockies. Both of his hits were singles.
Analysis: Kennedy has no power, and his batting average hasn't stayed consistently high throughout his career. He's the lowest of second base options even for NL-only leagues.
News:Chris Duncan and second baseman Adam Kennedy will make their debut in the second game of the season because manager Tony La Russa is loading his lineup with right-handed hitters to face Francis. One left-handed hitter who will play is outfielder Skip Schumaker, a longtime prospect who won the leadoff job. Aaron Miles and Ryan Ludwick will be the players who rest Duncan and Kennedy against tough left-handed pitchers.
Analysis: Duncan is a solid Fantasy option for all Fantasy leagues because of his power potential. He shouldn't get too many days off vs. left-handed pitching. Schumaker, Ludwick, Kennedy and Miles (in that order) are nothing more than deeper NL-only options at this point.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBI Saturday in a 20-6 loss to the Dodgers.
Analysis: Kennedy is the favorite to start at 2B for the Cardinals, but he'll have to do better than he did last season (.219, 18 RBI) if he wants to hold on to his job the entire year. He has minimal Fantasy value at this time.
News: Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday his pitchers would bat eighth in spring training games in which the DH is not used. La Russa then plans to continue the practice once the regular season starts. "We'll hit the pitcher eighth," he said. "We're going to have a second leadoff as the ninth-place hitter." La Russa inserted a position player in the ninth spot behind the pitcher for the final 56 games last season. The Cardinals were 28-28 in those games after starting the season 50-56. The move may have sparked the offense, which boosted its production from 4.3 runs per game to 4.6. "When we got hot, a lot of it was our ninth-place hitter setting the table," La Russa said. Aaron Miles and Brendan Ryan are on board. Cesar Izturis is also competing for at-bats at shortstop and perhaps second base with Adam Kennedy.
Analysis: "When you bat ninth and the pitcher is eighth and you lead off the inning or you get up with one out you have that feeling we can get a rally going," said Miles, who batted ninth in 20 games. Ryan was ninth in the order a team-high 28 times. He was the leadoff hitter for Triple-A Memphis before being called up. "I actually liked it," Ryan said. "The thing was, as soon as he started doing it we started winning games and I'm scoring all these runs in front of these guys who are knocking me in." Miles, Ryan, Izturis and Kennedy are nothing more than NL-only Fantasy options at this point -- with or without full-time at-bats.
News:Cesar Izturis, who got a one-year free-agent deal, enters spring as the man to beat as David Eckstein's successor at shortstop. But he wasn't a regular the past two seasons and Aaron Miles and Brendan Ryan also could contend. Manager Tony La Russa is hopeful Adam Kennedy, who slumped through last season after getting a three-year free-agent deal, will return to form at second base. Kennedy batted only .219 with 18 RBI and fell into platoon duty before undergoing season-ending knee surgery in August, but is a career .275 hitter. "I'm fired up," La Russa said. "I think we're being underestimated some. You still have to play the games."
Analysis: Izturis, Miles, Ryan and Kennedy are nothing more than deeper NL-only options on Draft Day. Even if they all reach their maximum potential, we don't give them much of a chance to help most Fantasy owners in mixed leagues.
News: Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is annoyed that second baseman Adam Kennedy skipped the team's annual Winter Warmup fan fest. "I'm disappointed he's not here," La Russa said. "This is a statement we make to our fans: 'Thanks for coming out,' and he's not here." La Russa said Kennedy owed it to the team, especially after the manager stuck with Kennedy for so long despite his struggles on offense. Kennedy, who signed a three-year deal with St. Louis before last season, batted .219 with three home runs and 18 RBIs in 87 games before undergoing season-ending arthroscopic knee surgery in August.
Analysis: Kennedy, a former first-round draft pick of the Cardinals, was the lone newcomer to the lineup last season, his second stint with the team. "In the first three months of the season, his playing time was extensive when he really wasn't productive," La Russa said. "I really gave him the benefit of the doubt a lot, to the detriment of a guy like Aaron Miles." La Russa said even if Miles had a big day in a spot start, he'd go right back to Kennedy. The manager said that won't be the case this year. "This year, I don't think we have that margin," La Russa said. "Adam is a key guy in that mix so I expect him to return to his winning-player form. I'm not ticked, I'm disappointed because this is a team thing." Kennedy doesn't have much pop and should be considered nothing more than a low-end NL-only option on Draft Day.
News: The Cardinals activated 2B Adam Kennedy from the 15-day DL and RHP Chris Carpenter, OF Juan Encarnacion, RHP Josh Kinney, 3B Scott Rolen and OF Preston Wilson from the 60-day DL.
Analysis: Adam Kennedy had arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee, which ended his dismal first season with the Cardinals. He struggled all year, batting just .219 with three homers and 18 RBI in 87 games. He will have to compete for his starting job in spring training and should be considered nothing more than a low-end NL-only option on Draft Day.
News: St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Adam Kennedy had arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee on Tuesday and will miss a minimum of six weeks. The injury may end what has been a disappointing first season for Kennedy with the reigning World Series champions. Kennedy said on Sunday that the knee had been bothering him for several days, and an MRI exam confirmed the injury. "I knew it wasn't good," Kennedy said. "When you play sports long enough you know what hurts and what's injured."
Analysis: Kennedy will begin the rehabilitation process in California and return to St. Louis when he is able to resume on-field activities. Kennedy has struggled all year after signing a free-agent contract with the Cardinals, batting .219 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 87 games. But he had been playing better lately. Brendan Ryan played second on Tuesday night against Milwaukee. Kennedy is not worth hanging onto in any NL-only Fantasy league right now.
News: Rookie INF Brendan Ryan homered and doubled with three RBI after being recalled earlier in the day to replace injured 2B Adam Kennedy. Ryan, who's batting .362 (21-for-58) as a starter and .222 (2-for-9) off the bench, could share time at 2B with Aaron Miles while Kennedy is out with torn cartilage in his right knee that'll require surgery in a few days.
Analysis: Surgery requires a month of rehab, which all but knocks Kennedy out for the season. The defensive-minded 2B is no big loss. Cut and ignore him in all leagues.
News: St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Adam Kennedy will be sidelined two to six weeks with torn cartilage in his right knee, the latest blow for the defending World Series champions. "I'm guessing he'll be back in September, but I don't know," manager Tony La Russa said. Kennedy said the knee had been bothering him the last few days and an MRI exam on Sunday confirmed the injury. The team will schedule surgery in the next several days. "I knew it wasn't good," Kennedy said. "When you play sports long enough you know what hurts and what's injured."
Analysis: Kennedy has struggled all year after signing a free-agent contract with the Cardinals, batting .219 with three homers and 18 RBI in 87 games. But Kennedy had been playing better lately. Kennedy had played in five straight games for the first time since the All-Star break, and somewhere in that stretch he hurt the knee. He's unsure how it happened. Kennedy has been nothing more than a low-end NL-only option this season. He won't be much more for the rest of his career either.
News: Cardinals manager Tony La Russa batted second baseman Adam Kennedy ninth and his pitcher eighth. It was the first time La Russa batted his pitcher eighth since 1998. For a while, the move looked brilliant. Kennedy hit a home run with one out in the third, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
Analysis: Kennedy has been nothing more than a low-end NL-only option this season. He won't be much more for the rest of his career either.
News: Adam Kennedy had played in 1,103 major league games heading into Thursday -- just never in the outfield. Sure enough, with the potential winning run on second and two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning, Jose Castillo singled to Kennedy in right field. Ryan Doumit had no trouble beating a weak and off line throw, giving the Pittsburgh Pirates a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. "It's part of the game and it was called for (Thursday)," Kennedy said. "I'd do it again in a heartbeat."
Analysis: Kennedy was hitless in his only at-bat. He might qualify for outfield in Fantasy leagues with lax eligibility requirements now. However, his value is still limited to the deepest of NL-only leagues at this point.
News: Chris Duncan and Adam Kennedy homered at Florida Monday night.
Analysis: Kennedy's solo home run in the sixth, his second of the year, stretched the Cardinals' lead to 4-2. Kennedy, who hit his first homer of the season Sunday night against Philadelphia, also had a single and double in four at-bats Monday. Use him in NL-only leagues.
News: RF Juan Encarnacion and 2B Adam Kennedy each hit home runs in the seventh inning of Sunday's blowout 10-2 win in Philadelphia. Encarnacion finished 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, while Kennedy also added a double and finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Analysis: Encarnacion's Fantasy appeal remains limited to deeper NL-only leagues despite the home run, which is the same value for the struggling Kennedy.
News: Adam Kennedy opened the Cardinals fifth Monday with a single off Jorge Sosa's leg for his 1,000th major league hit and later scored.
Analysis: Kennedy is not much of an offensive threat at second base. Consider him a low-end 2B option for the deepest of NL-only leagues. He does start regularly, though, especially since David Eckstein is out.
News: Adam Kennedy started for the first time in five games Wednesday against Kansas City and was 0-for-3 with two groundouts and a strikeout before getting taken out in a double-switch.
Analysis: Kennedy is not much of an offensive threat at second base. Consider him a low-end 2B option for the deepest of NL-only leagues. Aaron Miles has also been starting for the Cardinals.
News: 2B Adam Kennedy was out of the lineup for the fourth consecutive game Tuesday, with utilityman Scott Spiezio supplanting him the past two games. Manager Tony La Russa said he plans on starting Kennedy, who signed a three-year, $10 million free agent deal but is batting .211 with 12 RBI in 175 at-bats, on Thursday in the final game of a three-game series against the Royals.
Analysis: Kennedy is not much of an offensive threat at second base. Consider him a low-end 2B option for the deepest of NL-only leagues.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy is just 5-for-35 (.143) at the plate during the month of June, dropping his season average to .211.
Analysis: Kennedy is only worth a look in the deepest of NL-only Fantasy leagues. He lacks pop and consistency.
News: UTL Aaron Miles, a switch hitter, manned second base instead of left-handed-hitting Adam Kennedy against RHP Bronson Arroyo. This was one of the few times Kennedy has been sat down against a right-hander, but he was 0-for-8 in his career against Arroyo, while Miles was 4-for-14. But Miles was hitless in four tries Wednesday and is 0 for his past 16.
Analysis: Miles and Kennedy are nothing more than low-end NL-only infield options. They lack pop and consistency.
News: Adam Kennedy was intentionally walked twice on Wednesday night at Colorado for the first time in his career. He finished 0-for-2 with the two walks.
Analysis: Kennedy is only worth a look in the deepest of NL-only Fantasy leagues despite the sudden respect.
News: Aaron Miles had three hits and an RBI for the Cardinals on Tuesday. He started at second vs. a left-handed pitcher, leaving lefty-swinging Adam Kennedy on the bench.
Analysis: Kennedy gets most of the at-bats, but he is nothing but a deeper NL-only Fantasy option. Miles is even less intriguing as a reserve for those really deep formats.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy had a run-scoring single Wednesday vs. Colorado and is 5-for-12 as a leadoff man over three games with a walk. SS David Eckstein had been leading off until the last week and is likely to be restored to that position, but manager Tony La Russa said, "I don't see any reason to hurry that up."
Analysis: If Kennedy continues to produce at the top of the order, he may never leave the spot, especially if he continues to boost his .239 batting average. Consider him a stopgap 2B option in deeper NL-only play at this time.
News: The Cardinals have not repeated their leadoff hitter for 12 consecutive games while giving David Eckstein time to work out an early season slump from the eighth slot. Eckstein got a day off and Kennedy batted leadoff for the third time, going 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.
Analysis: Kennedy and Ecstein are nothing more than deeper NL-only Fantasy shortstops at this point. Hopefully you're not counting on them in mixed leagues still.
News: Adam Kennedy, the fifth leadoff hitter in five games for St. Louis, was 3-for-4 in Sunday's game against the Astros. The previous four leadoff hitters combined to go 3-for-15.
Analysis: Kennedy might have bought himself another game or two in the top spot of manager Tony LaRussa's batting order. Despite going 8-for-28 (.286) over the past seven games, he is only worth a look in the deepest of NL-only Fantasy leagues.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy is 10-for-23 with five RBIs against Reds starter Kyle Lohse, including two doubles and an RBI on Thursday. It was just his third multi-hit game of the season.
Analysis: Despite his two-double performance, Kennedy is nothing worth writing home about. He still remains just a NL-only option.
News: Adam Kennedy showed signs of breaking out of an early season slump with two hits Sunday that raised his average to .207 while batting seventh. He stayed in that spot Monday with Yadier Molina, who has hit seventh six times, batting behind him.
Analysis: Kennedy is nothing more than a deeper NL-only Fantasy 2B, especially when he's struggling like he is. You are crazy to start him in a mixed league right now.
News: Slumping Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy played for the first time Saturday in five days, counting two games, a day off and a rainout. He entered Saturday's game batting .130 (3-for-23) and not surprisingly, hasn't felt comfortable at the plate. He had been in the seventh spot for Friday's postponed game and was hitting eighth, switching spots with Yadier Molina, on Saturday. "This probably won't be the last time we talk about it," Kennedy said. "When you're not in the lineup for one reason or another, you stay ready."
Analysis: Kennedy is in his first year back with the Cardinals after spending the last seven years with the Angels. We didn't think a change of leagues would make much of a difference in power for Kennedy, but he has always been a guy that has hit for a decent average. He still should only be used in the deepest of NL-only leagues because there are far better second baseman available in mixed leagues.
News: According to MLB.com, the Cardinals chose to sit 2B Adam Kennedy for a second straight day Wednesday against the Pirates and opted to start Aaron Miles in his place. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said the team is not in a platoon situation. He chose to sit Kennedy, a left-handed hitter, on Wednesday against southpaw Paul Maholm. "It's just a coincidence that there's another left-hander out there and he's working to get his stroke right," La Russa said. "If there's a right-hander, Kennedy plays. So I wanted to make sure that he understands that there's no message here. He's our second baseman. It's just that the factors are that there's a left-hander. He understood what I was saying."
Analysis: Kennedy is in his first year back with the Cardinals after spending the last seven years with the Angels. He came into Wednesday's game just 3-for-22 (.136). We didn't think a change of leagues would make much of a difference in power for Kennedy, but he has always been a guy that has hit for a decent average. He still should only be used in the deepest of NL-only leagues because there are far better second baseman available in mixed leagues.
News: Adam Kennedy was hitless in four at-bats in Monday's game at Pittsburgh, but he was able to manage his first stolen base of the year.
Analysis: Kennedy is only worth a look in the deepest of NL-only Fantasy leagues, especially if you need help at the middle infielder position.
News: Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy is hitting 3-for-21 (.143) through the first week of the season with just one run scored, no RBI and a stolen base.
Analysis: Don't expect the world from Kennedy, but he is a useful NL-only option and a possible stopgap option in deeper mixed leagues.
News: Adam Kennedy, batting eighth in manager Tony LaRussa's lineup, was 1-for-3 with the season's first triple in Sunday's opener against the Mets.
Analysis: Kennedy got off to a nice start for Fantasy owners in NL-only leagues, but he should still be avoided in most mixed formats at this time.
News: Second baseman Adam Kennedy went 0-for-3 in his Cardinals debut against the Orioles in a spring training game Saturday. He had been sidelined with a strained muscle in his rib cage.
Analysis: The Cardinals brought Kennedy in this offseason after the veteran second baseman spent the last seven seasons with the Angels. He has been reliable the past seven years, particularly with the glove, but he lacks true pop and run-production potential. Also, he has logged more than 500 at-bats just once in his career. Don't expect the world from Kennedy, but he is a useful NL-only option and a possible stopgap option in deeper mixed leagues.
News: MLB.com reports that Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy (oblique) took batting practice on Tuesday and didn't have any problems. Manager Tony LaRussa is aiming to have him back by the weekend, citing that there's no rush to return him to their lineup.

News: According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Cardinals 2B Adam Kennedy is out with an oblique injury, but manager Tony La Russa expects him to return to the lineup next week.

News: The Cardinals made their first big moves since winning the World Series, agreeing Tuesday to a $10 million, three-year contract with second baseman Adam Kennedy and a $4 million, one-year deal with right-hander Kip Wells. Kennedy, selected by the Cardinals in the first round of the 1997 amateur draft, was considered the Cardinals' second baseman of the future before he was traded to the Angels in 2000, a deal that brought Jim Edmonds to St. Louis. Kennedy now replaces Ronnie Belliard, who was acquired from Cleveland last summer and became a free agent. The 30-year-old Kennedy hit .273 with 55 RBI and 16 stolen bases last season for the Angels. He has a career batting average of .280 with 52 homers and 123 stolen bases.
Analysis: Kennedy has been reliable the past seven years, particularly with the glove, but he lacks true pop and run-production potential. Being in a potent Cardinals lineup regularly helps, though, especially because his glove will get him everyday at-bats. Consider him a stopgap mixed-league 2B and an affordable option in mixed leagues.

Analysis: Through Sunday, a total of 89 players have filed since the World Series from a potential free-agent class of about 200. Players can file through Nov. 11, and free agents can talk money with all teams beginning the following day. Track their offseason destinations before finalizing a judgment on their Fantasy value for 2007.
News: Adam Kennedy hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning Tuesday to give Los Angeles a 5-2 victory over Baltimore.
Analysis: Kennedy, a free-agent to be who is losing his 2B job to Howie Kendrick, is nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy option at this stage of the season.
News: Adam Kennedy and RHP Kevin Gregg finished serving their four-game suspensions on Sunday.
Analysis: Kennedy is nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy option at this stage of the season.
News: The Angels played without second baseman Adam Kennedy and reliever Kevin Gregg as each began a four-game suspension for their roles in Wednesday night's bench-clearing brawl at Texas.
Analysis: Kennedy is nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy option at this stage of the season.
News: Bad feelings had been brewing between the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers for 10 days. A volatile series finally turned violent when Adam Kennedy charged the mound after being hit by a pitch from Texas' Scott Feldman, triggering a bench-clearing brawl in the Rangers' 9-3 victory over the Angels. The melee came a night after Rangers starter Vicente Padilla was ejected for hitting two Angels with pitches and nearly plunking a third. And Kennedy was hit an inning after the Angels had two pitchers and manager Mike Scioscia ejected because two Rangers' hitters were nailed. Feldman threw his glove down as Kennedy charged the mound and Feldman hit Kennedy in the armpit with a punch.
Analysis: Kennedy said he was left with no choice but to go after Feldman. "All the points had been made," Kennedy said. "You have a choice to go or not go and I decided to go. You wish it didn't have to happen that way. It's unfortunate because there'll be fines and suspensions." Kennedy is nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy option -- you can expect him to receive some type of suspension.
News: Kennedy was 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly in Friday's game against the Texas Rangers, ending his hitting streak at a career-best 17 games.
Analysis: Kennedy has been able to hold off red-hot prospect Howie Kendrick, who is playing some 2B, 3B and 1B right now. Kennedy is nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy option still, though, because of his lack of pop, run production or steals potential. He's more of a defensive-minded player who gets playing time for that reason. He will likely sit vs. all left-handed starters down the stretch.
News: Adam Kennedy extended his career-best hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the 12th Thursday.

News: Adam Kennedy extended his career-best hitting streak to 16 games with a leadoff single in the third.

News: Adam Kennedy led off the fifth inning in Tuesday's game against the Athletics with a single that extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games.
Analysis: Kennedy remains a must-start in all AL-only leagues and some mixed formats while he is hot.
News: Adam Kennedy singled his first time up in Monday's game against Oakland to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games, the longest by an Angel this season. He had a 13-game streak in June 2005.
Analysis: Kennedy remains a must-start in all AL-only leagues and some mixed formats while he is hot.
News: 2B Adam Kennedy extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a second-inning triple against the Red Sox Sunday.
Analysis: Kennedy remains a must-start in all AL-only leagues and some mixed formats while he is hot.
News: Adam Kennedy was 1-for-4 with a triple, run scored and a strikeout in Tuesday's game at Tampa Bay to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
Analysis: Kennedy has managed just 12 hits in 41 at-bats (.293) during the 11-game stretch. He remains a must-start in all AL-only leagues and some mixed formats while he is hot.
News: Adam Kennedy was 1-for-4 with a double (19) and three RBI (37) in Monday's game at Tampa Bay to extend his hitting streak to a season-high 10 games.
Analysis: Kennedy has just 11 hits in 37 at-bats (.297) during his 10-game run. He remains a must-start in all AL-only leagues and most mixed formats while he is hot.
News: 2B Adam Kennedy, who recently was part of a platoon with rookie Howie Kendrick, extended his hitting streak to nine games with a first-inning RBI single. Kendrick made his first start at third base Sunday.
Analysis: Kennedy continues to be a serviceable option for owners in AL formats, but he's not too spectacular at the plate. Consider Kennedy in AL-only play as a starting second baseman.
News: According to the Los Angeles Times, Adam Kennedy wants desperately to remain with the Angels beyond this season, but he has not made a contract proposal to the club. The Angels have not offered a new contract, and Kennedy said he would not ask his agent to make a proposal. "If they want me around, they're in the driver's seat," Kennedy said. "They know I want to stay."
Analysis: Kennedy continues to be a serviceable option for owners in AL formats, but he's not too spectacular at the plate. The Angels have Howie Kendrick batting .369 at Triple-A Salt Lake and all signs point to him becoming the everyday 2B at some point in the future. Consider Kennedy no more than a short-term stopgap option in the deepest of mixed formats.
News: Adam Kennedy went hitless in two at-bats with a walk and one run scored in Monday's contest against the Colorado Rockies.
Analysis: Kennedy (.260 BA) continues to be a serviceable option for owners in AL formats, but he's not too spectacular at the plate.
News: With Howie Kendrick hitting .401 with seven homers, 41 RBI and 37 runs in Triple-A right now, it could be days instead of weeks before Adam Kennedy is traded or benched for the lightning hot top prospect. Kennedy was philosophical about being involved in trade rumors lately. "I'm pretty much oblivious to it," Kennedy said. "It's part of the business and part of what we go through, so I don't take it personally at all. There are only a few guys in this league who are probably not mentioned in trade talks, and you can probably count those guys on one hand. Everybody is looking to make the team better every day -- and if you're involved in that, so be it. But I've got a job to do, and that's to not let these guys down and not let that affect me on the field."
Analysis: Kendrick is a must-have flier in all AL-only and long-term keeper leagues. He has Rickie Weeks-like potential with the bat, even if his defense is equaling questionable at second base. The Angels certainly need the offensive upgrade at second over Kennedy. Consider Kennedy a low-end AL-only option and be wary he could be dealt to an NL team like the Mets.
News: 2B Adam Kennedy was philosophical about being involved in trade rumors lately. "I'm pretty much oblivious to it," Kennedy said. "It's part of the business and part of what we go through, so I don't take it personally at all. There are only a few guys in this league who are probably not mentioned in trade talks, and you can probably count those guys on one hand. But I've got a job to do, and that's to not let these guys down and not let that affect me on the field."
Analysis: Kennedy is batting .280 and he's a solid reserve in mixed Rotisserie leagues.
News: Adam Kennedy had four hits in Tuesday's win over Texas. He's been the subject of recent trade rumors for three reasons -- his contract expires at the end of the season, the Angels have a losing record and a premier second base prospect, Howie Kendrick, in Triple-A.
Analysis: Kennedy (.285 BA) is a viable starter in all AL formats, but his value in mixed leagues is a bit more limited. If he is traded, the value of Kendrick would increase tenfold in seasonal formats.
News: Adam Kennedy was the Angels' leadoff man Thursday for the first time since 2003. He became the only Angel other than Chone Figgins to occupy the position this season. Figgins wasn't in the starting lineup but entered the game in the seventh as a pinch runner.
Analysis: Kennedy's move to the top of the lineup will be temporary until the team gets healthy, but it helps his short-term Fantasy value a bit.
News: Kennedy was moved from ninth to third in the lineup for manager Mike Scioscia, as he moved up to take the place of Garret Anderson (arch, hamstring) and Darin Erstad (ankle). "It's nice to be able to do different things, especially when guys are injured," Kennedy said.
Analysis: Kennedy's move to the top of the lineup will be temporary until the team gets healthy, but it helps his short-term Fantasy value a bit.
News: Adam Kennedy went 2-for-5 in Thursday's win over the Detroit Tigers.
Analysis: Kennedy (.322 BA) should be active in all AL and most mixed formats.
News: The L.A. Times reports that Adam Kennedy, the incumbent second baseman in Anaheim, is happy to see rookie Howie Kendrick in the majors. "He's a good guy, and he's going to be good, but I'm a firm believer in that if two guys are good, you find spots for both of them," said Kennedy. He has helped Kendrick work on defense in spring training for several years.
Analysis: Kennedy's three-year contract expires at the end of this season. It makes sense that the Angels would allow him to move on, using Kendrick as his replacement at second with super prospect Brandon Wood the eventual successor at shortstop. Kennedy remains a solid starter in mixed leagues with his .355 batting average. Manager Mike Scoscia said Kendrick will mostly be used as a pinch hitter and DH, with some starts at second base sprinkled in. That makes him a very nice middle infielder in AL-only leagues while he's up for Maicer Izturis (hamstring). The 22-year-old phenom hit a combined .367 with 19 homers, 89 RBI, 104 runs and 25 stolen bases in 109 Class A and Double-A games in 2005. He then went .380-5-17-27-2 in the Arizona Fall League. That kind of offensive potential at the position is too good to ignore and Kendrick is the type of prospect who gets called up to play regularly.
News: Adam Kennedy was 4-for-6 with a double, two run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's game at Minnesota.
Analysis: Kennedy raised his average to .370, as he has re-emerged as a must-start in all Fantasy leagues for the time being. Normally, he is only worth using in AL-only leagues, but if he is available, ride the wave while he is hot in mixed formats.
News: Adam Kennedy had a seven-game hitting streak snapped Monday at Baltimore. On the season, he is hitting .297 (11-for-37) with a homer and seven RBI.
Analysis: Kennedy is a nice AL-only 2B option, especially since it looks like he's just slapping the ball around. In mixed leagues, he should be passed over for better 2B options if at all possible.
News: Garret Anderson and Adam Kennedy were the only left-handed hitters in the lineup Saturday night against the Yankees' Randy Johnson, who had not allowed an RBI in 60 consecutive at-bats by lefty-swinging batters over his previous 14 regular-season starts. CF Darin Erstad and 1B Casey Kotchman did not start. Erstad is 5-for-20 against the Big Unit, and Kotchman has never faced the five-time Cy Young winner. "At times you're going to pick your spots. It just seems like a day that we can take advantage to get some guys off their feet," manager Mike Scioscia said. "We want to try to keep some guys playing at a high level, and if it means they get a night off before a day game, we're going to take advantage of that."
Analysis: Kennedy had a two-run triple off of Johnson to win it Saturday night, so clearly he's still scrappy enough to keep active in AL-only leagues. You will find more productive options at the position in mixed leagues.
News: Manager Mike Scioscia left Adam Kennedy out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game at Seattle against former teammate Jarrod Washburn.
Analysis: Scioscia started Chone Figgins at second base and gave Edgardo Alfonzo the start at third base, as Kennedy has had fielding errors in the first two games. He added that Kennedy did not start so he could explore different combinations against left-handed starters. Keep this in mind in daily Fantasy leagues next time the Angels matchup up against a southpaw.
News: Adam Kennedy is a hit at the bottom of the batting order for the Los Angeles Angels. Kennedy bats ninth despite a .300 average last year. There, Kennedy helps "set the table" for the heart of the lineup, according to Angels manager Mike Scioscia. When asked if he ever batted last in the lineup before the Angels, Kennedy shook his head no. "You take what's given to you, it's your job and you try to make the best of it," Kennedy said. "I come up with guys on, get my opportunities. This day and age, and in this league (with the DH), you don't have the luxury of having a hole in the lineup." Kennedy is in the final year of his contract and his future with the Angels is uncertain. Scioscia said he appreciates what Kennedy has done for the team, calling him "the best second baseman in our league" and "one of the toughest outs of anybody playing that position."
Analysis: Kennedy, 30, is entering the final year of a three-year, $9-million contract, and those who have seen the Angels essentially discard Troy Glaus and Bengie Molina to clear room for younger players the last two years are speculating that Kennedy will be among the next veterans to depart. He is a nice source of BA and steals for owners, but either Erick Aybar or Howie Kendrick could be midseason options at second base for the Angels. Still, Kennedy is worth a ninth- to tenth-round selection in AL-only leagues.
News: Adam Kennedy has heard footsteps before. Some thought David Eckstein would displace him as the Angel second baseman in 2001, and it appeared Chone Figgins might make a run at his job last season. "It happens; it's part of the game," Kennedy, who has fought off all challengers for six years now, told the Los Angeles Times. "It's not necessarily bad." Four of the team's top six prospects are middle infielders, including second baseman Howie Kendrick, who Manager Mike Scioscia said is ready to hit in the big leagues.

Still, Kennedy is worth a ninth- to tenth-round selection in AL-only leagues.
News: Adam Kennedy was the 116th overall selection (tenth round) in the 2006 CBS SportsLine.com AL Experts League. He recorded a .300 BA with two home runs, 37 RBI and 19 steals in 416 AB in 2005.
Analysis: Kennedy is a nice source of BA and steals for owners, but Erick Aybar or Howie Kendrick could be midseason options at second base for the Angels. Still, Kennedy is worth a ninth- to tenth-round selection in AL leagues.
News: For Brandon Wood or Erick Aybar to get an everyday job, the Angels would need to trade veterans, meaning Orlando Cabrera or Adam Kennedy could wind up on the trading block. "You have to stay open-minded. We're going into this spring with the idea we're going to take the guys we think will make us the best we can be," GM Bill Stoneman said. "You've got to stay open-minded on that. I've stated pretty clearly that we've got some real good young players coming up, and I'd like to be in position to give each and every one of them an opportunity. I'll leave it at that."
Analysis: Kennedy's defense makes him a pretty safe bet to open the season as the everyday second baseman, but Aybar or Howie Kendrick could be midseason options if Kennedy's lack of real power continues. Also, Chone Figgins could be sliding over from third if Dallas McPherson finally proves healthy and productive. For these reasons, we cannot recommend Kennedy outstide of AL-only leagues.
News: One night after clinching their second straight AL West title, the Angels held six regulars out of the starting lineup: Vladimir Guerrero, Garret Anderson, Chone Figgins, Adam Kennedy, Bengie Molina and Darin Erstad. Manager Mike Scioscia said he will give all his regulars a break, even though the Angels still have a shot at home-field advantage in the first round. "What's important is how you're playing, not who you're playing or where you're playing," he said. "It would be great to have home-field advantage, no doubt about it. But not at the cost of putting some of these guys at serious risk of missing the playoffs."
Analysis: Vlad, Figgins and possibly Anderson and Molina are too valuable to sit throughout the next few days, despite the possibility they might see limited at-bats. Consider other options though in place of Erstad and Kennedy in daily leagues.
News: Adam Kennedy was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Kennedy had gone 10 straight games without an RBI dating back to July 22 against the Yankees. He is still batting .323 and is a must-start in all AL-only leagues.
News: 2B Adam Kennedy had two doubles Sunday. He is hitting .411 since June 1 to raise his batting average to .347.
Analysis: Kennedy is a solid middle-infield option in any Fantasy league right now. His power is still lacking but he should be able to pop a few homers in the second half.
News: Vladimir Guerrero and Adam Kennedy, who hit .443 and .435, respectively, in June, are the first two Angels to go over .430 in the same month in at least 30 years.
Analysis: Kennedy has been extremely hot since returning from a knee injury. Start him in all AL-only leagues.
News: Adam Kennedy went 0-for-1 with two walks against Pittsburgh Sunday, ending his 13-game hitting streak.
Analysis: Kennedy has been extremely hot since returning from a knee injury. Start him in all AL-only leagues.
News: The Los Angeles Times reports that Kennedy (knee surgery) was called up by the Angels from Class A Rancho Cucamonga to replace Lou Merloni (ankle) on the active roster.
Analysis: Kennedy hit well during his rehab assignment, and it looks like he will return to start at second base for the Angels. His return pushes Chone Figgins to the DH spot, while Jeff DaVanon and Juan Rivera will have lesser roles.

News: Adam Kennedy went 7-for-13 (.538) in his first three games of a rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake, and the Angels hope he can return by early May. Kennedy is recovering from reconstructive surgery on his right knee.
Analysis: Kennedy will return as a reserve infielder behind Chone Figgins and Orlando Cabrera.
News: The Los Angeles Times reports that Kennedy (right knee surgery) will not be considered for recall until next week, despite the knee injury to reserve infielder Maicer Izturis.
Analysis: Kennedy is tearing through his rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake with a .538 batting average. When he gets the call, however, he will primarily work as a reserve middle infielder, making his Fantasy value nil.
News: Adam Kennedy, who is rehabilitating a serious knee injury, went 3-for-4 in a minor league game Tuesday and remains on track for a May return to the Angels. "We are past the point where we are wondering how the knee is going to respond. We know how it is going to respond, and now we have to get him into his game," manager Mike Scioscia said.
Analysis: It's unsure exactly how Kennedy fits into the plans for the Angels. Chone Figgins has been getting the bulk of the time at second base in Kennedy's absence, but a platoon situation might develop.
News: The Los Angeles Daily News reports Adam Kennedy (knee) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.
Analysis: Kennedy is expected to rehab for at least one week before rejoining the club. If he is available in your AL-only league, scoop him up now.
News: The L.A. Daily News reports that Kennedy (knee surgery) will continue to play in extended spring training before heading out on a rehab assignment this weekend at Triple-A Salt Lake.
Analysis: Kennedy will likely return to the majors as a reserve infielder unless Chone Figgins doesn't cut it at second base.
News: The Los Angeles Daily News reports Adam Kennedy (knee) might begin a rehab assignment in the minors by the end of the week.
Analysis: Kennedy has been progressing nicely while playing in extended spring training games and he remains on target to return to the Angels on May 1. Consider scooping him up now if you need middle infielder help. His return should push the struggling Chone Figgins back to the bench.
News: 2B Adam Kennedy is expected to begin playing games in extended spring training this week. Kennedy tore ligaments in his right knee in the final month of last season. With Kennedy out, Chone Figgins has become the everyday second baseman. He was hitting just .115 through the first seven games, but remained in the lineup Tuesday night. "Sometimes it's good for a guy to grind through some tough times," manager Mike Scioscia said.
Analysis: Kennedy should become a usable AL-only player by the beginning of May. Pick him up ASAP and stash him away for at least the next two weeks. He could steal the 2B job from a struggling Figgins upon his return.
News: The Los Angeles Times reports Adam Kennedy will return to Arizona on Sunday to continue his rehabilitation from right knee surgery. He will begin hitting in extended spring training games next week and will increase his defensive load as his knee will permit. The Angels are targeting early May for his return.
Analysis: With Kennedy out of action, Chone Figgins will be the everyday second baseman. In fact, Figgins might even play everyday after Kennedy returns.
News: The L.A. Daily News notes that Kennedy (knee) is making rapid progress. He is working out with the team and taking part in all baseball-related activities.
Analysis: Kennedy is expected to return in late April. Chone Figgins takes over at second base this season. Kennedy will likely return as a reserve.
News: Kennedy (knee surgery) was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday.
Analysis: Kennedy is expected to miss the first four to six weeks. Chone Figgins will see a majority of the time at second base in his absence.
News: The Los Angeles Times reports Adam Kennedy's graduation to full-speed baseball activities, scheduled for Tuesday, will be delayed by several days. He's rehabilitating from surgery on his right knee, was sent home Monday because of flu-like symptoms.
Analysis: Kennedy is just an average Fantasy second basemen when healthy. He has the power and speed to get about 10-15 home runs and stolen bases with a respectable .280 average. Target him in the later rounds for your second basemen or middle infielder.
News: Adam Kennedy will undergo surgery Friday to repair torn ligaments in his right knee. He has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament. Kennedy's rehabilitation could extend into spring training.
Analysis: If Kennedy isn't at full strength in the spring, and it's likely he won't be, then Chone Figgins could get a chance to be Anaheim's starting second baseman next opening day.
News: Adam Kennedy will undergo a second MRI exam on his injured right knee this week, according to the Los Angeles Times. It appears likely he will require surgery for a torn ligament.
Analysis: There is no word what Kennedy's status will be for spring training, although it seems likely he'll be working back to 100 percent once camps open.
News: Adam Kennedy will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and partially torn MCL.
Analysis: Chone Figgins will take over everyday duties at second base.
News: The Los Angeles Times reports that Kennedy sprained his right knee in the fifth inning of Monday's game against Seattle.

News: Adam Kennedy is batting .324 (150-for-463) since May 1, 2002, the seventh-best average in the major leagues.
Analysis: Kennedy's average and contributions in the stolen base department make him a worthy starting second baseman in AL-only leagues, as well as a quality middle infielder in mixed formats.

Analysis: Let Kennedy get a couple of games under his belt before activating him in leagues which allow daily transactions.

Analysis: Chone Figgins and Benji Gil will share time at second base in Kennedy's absence. Figgins got the start Wednesday, and is the more useful of the two based on his stolen-base potential. Still, he has only minimal Fantasy value in AL-only leagues.
News: Adam Kennedy was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right hamstring. The move is retroactive to April 7.
Analysis: Kennedy suffered the injury when he collided with teammate Tim Salmon while pursuing a pop up. Keep him reserve in leagues that allow daily transactions.

Analysis: In daily leagues, reserve Kennedy. Assuming he plays on Sunday, he looks fine to use for the upcoming week, although if he sits frequently against lefties, Kennedy's Fantasy value will be limited.
News: The Los Angeles Times reports that Kennedy, who suffered a right hamstring contusion in a collision with Tim Salmon on Wednesday, expects to return to the lineup Friday in Oakland. "Hopefully," he said, "it's just a bruise that will go away."

Analysis:
News: The L.A. Times reports that Kennedy, whose starting second base job was in question during spring training, has won the job for the 2003 season. Although he has been sitting in favor of Benji Gil against left-handers, Kennedy is expected to hold the job over top prospect Alfredo Amezaga. If you were considering retaining Kennedy in an AL-only keeper league, he looks a bit safer now, but he's still not a great player to hold over unless it costs you very little.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy had three singles Sunday in Milwaukee, and was 7-for-12 in the three-game weekend series. He had been in an 0-for-12 slump entering Friday's game, and had even been benched on occasion in recent weeks. Kennedy looks a little safer to count on in AL-only leagues, but he's still not in the upper echelon of Fantasy second basemen.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy did not start Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh, his third straight time sitting out against a left-hander. The L.A. Times reports that he has expressed frustration and resignation over what he believes is an emerging platoon. Kennedy isn't much of a viable starter as long as he isn't playing on a full-time basis.
Analysis:
News: Angels manager Mike Scioscia has replaced Kennedy with Jose Nieves at second base in each of the team's past four games against left-handed starters, indicating a possible platoon. Kennedy is hitting just .208, and you should probably reserve him until he starts heating up at the plate.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy's tenure at second base could be coming to an end soon. The L.A. Times reports that the Angels were considering using rookie Alfredo Amezaga at shortstop and moving David Eckstein to second. The Angels scrapped the plan because they don't think Amezaga is ready to hit major league pitching. However, there is a chance that Amezaga could be called up later in the season.
Analysis:
News: It appears that Kennedy has lost his job as the starting second baseman to David Eckstein. Eckstein has started at second the past two games in favor of Kennnedy and batted first in the order. Kennedy is only hitting .242 in 11 games with three runs scored while Eckstein is batting .322 with 13 runs scored in 20 games. Trading Kennedy might not be a bad idea if he does in fact lose his job.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy was back in the lineup for the Angels Friday. He had been sidelined since March 8 with a broken bone in his right hand. Kennedy went 1-for-2 in the game with a homer and two RBI. He will be a good second baseman or middle infielder if he continues to hit well.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy has been activated for Friday's game. He had been sidelined since March 8 because of a broken bone in his right hand. His replacement, David Eckstein, will return to the bench. Kennedy should provide good batting average and runs totals for a Fantasy squad as a middle infielder.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy will work out with the Angels Thursday. According to the L.A. Times a decision will then be made on whether to activate him for Friday's game or let him play in Triple-A for three more games. Kennedy will start at second base when he returns, but his replacement, David Eckstein, will continue to see action against left-handed pitchers.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy could be back in the Angels' roster as soon as Thursday according to the L.A. Times. Recovering from a broken bone in his right hand, he doubled and walked twice in his first rehab start Monday. If he plays this week get Kennedy in your active roster for the next period. He will be a solid middle infielder and will contribute in the batting average and runs categories.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy, recovering from a broken bone in his right hand was placed on the 15-day DL Tuesday, retroactive Friday. David Eckstein will likely start at second in his place. Kennedy will be a solid middle infielder when he returns but don't expect him to have a major impact. Reserve outfielder Kimera Bartee (back) was also placed on the DL.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy was examined Monday and it was revealed that he has a broken right index finger and might not be ready to start the season. He will be sidelined 2-to-3 weeks. Look elsewhere for a second baseman. Possible options at second base for the Angels are David Eckstein, claimed on waivers from the Boston Red Sox last August, and Justin Baughman, a non-roster player. Lower your bids on Kennedy.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy was hit by a pitch Thursday and suffered a bruised right hand. He will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Kennedy didnt fare too well as the full-time second baseman but will still be a solid reserve to add to your roster.
Analysis:
News: Will be the starting second baseman. Hit .300-plus in Triple-A so he has the ability to put up good numbers. But last year with St. Louis posted just a .255 BA in 33 games. Now with Anaheim and hitting in front of Mo Vaughn he should see a lot of good pitches to hit. Would not be out of line to expect a .290 batting average and 80-90 runs. What may limit that production would be his inability to make the adjustments to big league pitching.
Analysis:
News: Traded to Anaheim. Will compete for the 2B job. Had only 102 at-bats last year and posted a .255 average. No Fantasy value at this point.
Analysis:
News: Kennedy, a top infield prospect, will join the Cardinals Friday in New York. Kennedy, 23, was the team's No. 1 draft pick in 1997 and he batted .329 with 10 homers, 62 RBI and 18 steals in 89 games at Memphis.
