Report: Brett Myers chooses not to pitch in 2014

(4/1/2014) Free-agent pitcher Brett Myers has decided not to pitch in 2014, but he will look for a deal next offseason rather than retire, MLBDailyDish.com reports.

Myers pitched just 21 1/3 innings while dealing with elbow issuse last season. He'll be 34 years old by the time the offseason rolls around.

Myers had been out since April 19 with an elbow injury. He's now a free-agent and free to sign with any team. Myers had a 8.02 ERA in four games.

(8/24/2013) Indians pitcher Brett Myers began a rehab assignment with Double-A Akron Saturday, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits while recording just one out and throwing 16 pitches.

Myers, who is returning from an elbow injury, has made four appearances (three starts) with the Indians this season, going 0-3 with an 8.02 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB ratio in 21 1/3 innings.

Myers has been on the disabled list since April 20 due to a right elbow injury. Manager Terry Francona has not established a timetable for Myers to resume a throwing program.

"He's down for right now," Francona said. "The hope is that maybe we give him another break and give him another shot at it. I know we're getting to that point in the year where it's getting tougher. But, to his credit, he wants to keep trying. As long as he does, we're OK with that."

(7/2/2013) Indians pitcher Brett Myers has been shut down due to pain in his right elbow, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Tuesday. Myers will not throw for at least 3-5 days. 

While his MRI came back clean, the Indians are playing it safe with Myers. He has started and stopped his rehab assignment a couple times already. He has not pitched since April 19 and should return out of the bullpen for Cleveland.

Myers, who was moved to the 60-day DL earlier in June, may be moving to relief for the Indians. He's been out since April 20. Wood has been rehabbing over several different minor league levels. He's also on the 60-day DL, but is already eligible to return.

"Myers also got positive feedback from the doctors, but he's still not ready to throw," manager Terry Francona said. "He's probably out more like four to five days."

(5/27/2013) The Indians are in need of a closer and there is currently no word on who that will be after the Tribe placed Chris Perez on the disabled list Monday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Cleveland called up Nick Hagadone from Triple-A Columbus, but he'll be middle relief help. The logical choices are Joe Smith and Cody Allen, and Brett Myers also has experience closing games. That said, Myers has been used as a starter for Cleveland and is also on the shelf.

Vinnie Pestano could be another option, but he just came off the DL and has shown lowered velocity to this point.
