(6/21/2010) The Sports Xchange reports Angels OF Michael Ryan has cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Salt Lake. Ryan was designated for assignment last week after hitting .205 in 22 games with the Angels.

(5/7/2010) The Angels have called up OF Michael Ryan from Triple-A Salt Lake and demoted struggling right-hander Matt Palmer. The team made the move Friday in time for Ryan to be in uniform for the series opener at the Mariners. Manager Mike Scioscia says Ryan gives the Angels a left-handed hitting option off the bench and for spot starts. He also says Palmer needs to get his command issues straightened out at Salt Lake.

(3/11/2010) MLB.com reports that Angels RF Michael Ryan is catching the attention of many coaches in his bid to make the Angels 25-man roster. "He's a guy that is certainly making the most out of every opportunity he's getting," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's versatile and we're working on that now with him getting work at first base, third base and the corner outfields. And he can handle the bat, whether it's hit and run or working the counts." Ryan has stated the key to his success during spring training is that he is not putting pressure on himself. "I'm not fighting for a job in my opinion," Ryan said. "It's not make or break for me. I just wanna take it day by day and have fun with it."

Pirates cut roster to 32 players


(3/27/2007) Outfielder Michael Ryan, right-hander Josh Sharpless and catcher Einar Diaz were sent to the minor leagues Tuesday, leaving the Pirates with 32 players in camp. Sharpless was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, and Ryan and Diaz were reassigned to the minor league camp. The Pirates must cut seven more players to reach the 25-man opening-day limit. Ryan, who played in 127 games with the Twins from 2002-05, knew he was a long shot to make the opening-day roster, but GM Dave Littlefield said he made an impression. "He's on the radar, and I'm confident that as the season rolls on and we need players because of injuries or performance changes, he will certainly be a strong candidate," Littlefield said. "He's done an excellent job in spring training and I would anticipate we'll see him in Pittsburgh at some point."

(3/12/2007) Michael Ryan, a former Twins outfielder who is in camp as a non-roster player, is forcing the Pirates to take an extra look at him. He is hitting .417 with six RBIs and has been the best hitter in camp except for Eldred, who has a .478 average and four homers. "It's why we stay here until the end of March," manager Jim Tracy said Sunday.
