(7/18/2007) The Tampa Bay Devil Rays optioned reliever Jon Switzer to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday night, to open a roster spot for injured closer Al Reyes (shoulder). The Devil Rays plan to reinstate Reyes, who has been out since July 3 because of a mild rotator cuff strain, from the 15-day disabled list before Wednesday night's game with the Los Angeles Angels.

(7/5/2007)The Sports Xchange reports that Jon Switzer has pitched well since recovering from a spring shoulder strain and earned his promotion. Working primarily in middle relief at Triple-A Durham, he allowed only two runs (one earned) in 22 innings. "I'm throwing the ball pretty well; I've got a little ways to go still," he said. "I'm using my sinker and slider just trying to get groundballs."

(3/8/2007) Devil Rays LHP Jon Switzer delivered only one pitch in his second Grapefruit League appearance of the year, and it came back at him in a hurry. Indians 3B Andy Marte lined one back up the middle leading off the fourth inning Wednesday, striking Switzer just below his glove on the underside of his right wrist. After a brief consultation with Rays trainer Ron Porterfield, Switzer left the game. Precautionary X-rays did not show a fracture, but the pitcher was undergoing further tests.
