Reds' Jason Bourgeois out 4-6 weeks with shoulder fracture

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/15/2015) Reds outfielder Jason Bourgeois has been diagnosed with a fractured shoulder and will miss four-to-six weeks, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Bourgeois was competing with Brennan Boesch for a reserve outfielder role this spring but was removed Saturday after suffering an injury on a bunt attempt. He initially appeared to be hit by a pitch on the attempt but later received an MRI on his shoulder, which he initially injured while diving towards a base. The shoulder issue flared up Saturday, and the subsequent tests have ruled him out for the beginning of the season.

Reds outfielder Jason Bourgeois leaves game early after HBP

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/14/2015) Reds outfielder Jason Bourgeois left Saturday's game after taking a pitch off the hand while trying to lay down a sacrifice bunt, reports MLB.com.

Bourgeois tried to walk it off, but went to the ground quickly. He needed the medical trainer's assistance to get off the field. He will be evaluated further after the game.

Bourgeois received an MRI on his shoulder after the game and reportedly was not hit by the ball. Results of the examination were not yet available.

"I'd like to be able to explain exactly what happened," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "I thought he tripped and did something when he went down. I think it happened after he bunted the ball and was leaving the box."

Reds' Price: Both Bourgeois, Boesch 'could help us'

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/11/2015) Reds manager Bryan Price indicated Wednesday that outfielders Jason Bourgeios and Brennan Boesch are playing well and one could stick on the roster despite the team already likely to carry two other players capable of backing up the team's starters in the outfield, MLB.com reports.

"Along with the starters, you have two guys there that are capable of playing the outfield very well and then you have to look between Jason Bourgeois and Brennan Boesch, that group," Price said. "There's a good chance at least one of those guys would be on the club as well at this point. They're both playing well and both could help us. I don't want to use the word 'surplus,' but we could have a rather large group of guys that, even if it's not their primary position, they're capable of playing the outfield very well."

Bourgeois is 5 for 15 with one home run in six spring games, while Boesch is 7 of 14 with two home runs and five RBI in six games.

Reds reveal September callups

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/1/2014) The Reds announced their September callups on Monday. Before making the moves, the team transferred Homer Bailey to the 60-day disabled list, ending his season. The team called up Carlos Contreras, Daniel Corcino, Jake Elmore, David Holmberg, J.J. Hoover, Tucker Barnhart, Donald Lutz, Yorman Rodriguez, Jason Bourgeois and Ryan Dennick.

Jason Bourgeois steals base Friday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/7/2014) Playing in his second straight game after missing the beginning of exhibition season with a strained hamstring, Reds outfielder Jason Bourgeois went 0 for 2 with a walk, a run and a stolen base in his team's 10-9 win over the Mariners Friday.

Bourgeois started at designated hitter for the second straight game as the team looks to get him at-bats in game situations, but his ability to steal a base Friday speaks well about the status of his hamstring. He's fighting for a bench spot with the Reds, one that could potentially turn into something more if speedster Billy Hamilton struggles.

Jason Bourgeois out with hamstring strain

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2014) Reds outfielder Jason Bourgeois has yet to play this spring due to a strained hamstring, MLB.com reports.

"He came out early to Spring Training and was taking some ground balls at second because we’d like to see him at second base also. He just got a little bit stiff," manager Bryan Price said. "Then he was doing some of those first day outfield drills and had strained his hamstring. As you know with hamstrings, you want to make sure that they’re all the way healthy before you go and test them. But he’s very, very close. It’s possible he could play here this week."

Bourgeois signed a minor-league contract with the Reds this offseason. He went 3 for 16 with Tampa Bay last season while also hitting .290/.343/.368 with two home runs, 61 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 348 at-bats with Triple-A Durham.
