(8/3/2014) The Pirates announced Sunday they signed free agent infielder Jayson Nix, who was released by the Rays Friday. To make room on the active and 40-man roster, infielder Brent Morel was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis and infielder Dean Anna was designated for assignment.

Nix managed six hits in 39 at-bats with Philadelphia this season before gaining free agent status by refusing a demotion. He has played for seven major league teams since 2009.

(11/4/2013) The New York Yankees activated three players from the 60-day disabled list on Monday. Starting pitcher CC Sabathia, first baseman Mark Teixeira and utility man Jayson Nix rejoined the 40-man roster. 

Sabathia missed the final week of the season with a hamstring strain and will, of course, be ready for spring training. Teixeira played in just 15 games this season due to a wrist injury that required surgery. He should be fine for the spring. Nix missed the final six weeks due to a fractured left hand.

(8/21/2013) Yankees third baseman Jayson Nix had to leave Wednesday's game against Toronto after getting hit in the hand by a pitch. He was hit in his first at-bat against R.A. Dickey.

Nix, who was hit in the left hand, should be considered day to day initially, MLB.com reports.

He had a huge game Tuesday as he hit his seventh home run. He's batting .236 on the year.

(10:16 pm ET) Yankees third baseman Jayson Nix came up big twice on Tuesday in a walk-off win over the Blue Jays. Nix homered in the seventh inning in the second game of the doubleheader. 

Nix, who went deep for the first time since June 25, then won the game with an RBI single in the ninth. Nix, who has three HRs, finished 2 for 4 with two RBI and is batting .236. 

The 30-year-old has gone 3 for 7 in his last three games with five runs scored, two walks and two RBI. He also has two stolen bases over that stretch and 13 on the year.

(7/27/2013) Yankees infielder Jayson Nix (strained hamstring) is rehabbing with Class A Tampa, the New York Daily News reports.

Nix led off on Friday and went 1 for 4 with an RBI double. He hit several balls hard during the game, in fact.

"I took a lot of good swings,” Nix said. "I’m glad I had one (hit) to show for it."

Nix said he feels fine and is expected to remain with Tampa through the weekend before possibly returning to the Yankees.

(7/19/2013) Yankees infielder Jayson Nix (hamstring) has been working out in Tampa, Fla., and is inching closer to starting a minor-league rehab assignment, general manager Brian Cashman told The Journal News Friday.

"I can’t remember the day on Nix, but I think around the 23rd, 24th we'll be getting him into rehab games," Cashman said.

Cashman has not revealed where Nix will start his rehab assignment.

New York signed Luis Cruz to take his spot. Nix has gone just 5 for 41 (.122) over his last 11 games with just one RBI over that span and 12 strikeouts. 

An MRI of Nix's hamstring revealed a Grade 2 strain, MLB.com reports.

(6/26/2013) Yankees infielder Jayson Nix was one of three hitters Tuesday to hit a solo home run off Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish, joining teammates Travis Hafner and Brett Gardner. It was Nix's second home run and first since April 7.

Nix is batting .258 (17 for 66) with one home run, three doubles, six RBI, seven runs and five stolen bases in his last 18 games.

He has 10 stolen bases this season without getting caught. That said, Nix has an ugly .249 batting average with only one home run and 18 RBI over 185 at-bats. 

Nix has hit in nine of his last 10 games but is still just 10 for 38 (.263) over that stretch with four RBI.
