(11/23/2007) According to The Sports Xchange: The A's have signed several minor league free agents and given them invites to spring training, including LHP Troy Cate, who made 14 appearances with St. Louis last season; RHP Chris Gissell; RHP Brad Zeigler, who performed well in Double- and Triple-A for the A's last season; RHP Angel Garcia, who pitched in the Minnesota system, 1B Casey Rogowski; and two former Giants prospects, C Justin Knoedler and OF Todd Linden. Linden is the standout of the group after playing in 115 games with San Francisco and Florida last year.

(10/11/2007) The Marlins outrighted C Paul Hoover, OF Todd Linden and 3B Jason Wood to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. Also, they activated RHP Jose Garcia from the 60-day DL, but he was claimed off waivers by the A's.

Marlins' Linden gets rare start


(9/2/2007) LF Josh Willingham was scratched from Saturday's starting lineup. Willingham left Friday's game in the third inning because of a stiff lower back. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Willingham could return Sunday. Todd Linden replaced Willingham and the Marlins inserted RF Jeremy Hermida into the third spot in the batting order and moved 3B Miguel Cabrera, who usually hits third, to cleanup. Hermida normally hits in the bottom of the order.

(8/8/2007) Josh Willingham, still recovering after passing three kidney stones, was unable to play in Tuesday's game at Philadelphia. He missed his second game. Todd Linden got the start in left field and he posted three hits in four at-bats.

(5/21/2007) Marlins OF Todd Linden was claimed off waivers from San Francisco on Friday. To make room on the 25-man roster, they designated OF John Gall for assignment. Linden struggled in 30 games with the Giants, hitting .182 with three RBI in 30 games. He struck out 23 times in 55 at-bats. "Our people like him, and they think he can help us out, so why not," manager Fredi Gonzalez said of Linden, who will play left field or right field.

Manager Bruce Bochy said will give Randy Winn a few days "to freshen up." Bochy said Linden, a switch-hitter, will be able to spell all three starting outfielders.
