by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (6/5/2013) Reds infielder Jack Hannahan received his first major league start at second base Wednesday, in place of the injured Brandon Phillips. But, according to MLB.com, it is likely just a one time thing, with Phillips expected to return Friday.
Hannahan has appeared in just one game at second base in the majors prior to Wednesday, back in 2009 , when he played two innings for the Athletics.
Hannahan has appeared in 33 games this season, with just eight starts, all at third base. He is batting .208 with a .540 OPS in 53 at-bats.
Jack Hannahan could be used at second base Monday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (6/3/2013) With Brandon Phillips out of the lineup Monday with an injured forearm, Reds third baseman Jack Hannahan may be used as a substitute for starter Cesar Izturis if needed, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Hannahan has played two innings of second base in his major-league career, but has 134 games of experience at the position in the minors.
"I told him to work out there in case I have to hit for Izturis," manager Dusty Baker told the Enquirer. "Jack says he can play second and he says he can play short. He’s a little short on the foot speed of the other two guys, but everyone is compared to Brandon. He has good hands, he’ll catch the balls hit to him. The main thing is I wanted to see him turn double plays and see that he knows what he’s doing. I may have to tell him to just make sure you get one, but he looked pretty good around the bag."
Jack Hannahan slotted at DH

Hannahan drew the start at third base Tuesday and went 2 for 5 with a double, one run and one RBI. He was 1 for 19 in May heading into that start, however.
Jack Hannahan receives rare start
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (5/7/2013) Reds third baseman Jack Hannahan made just his fourth start Tuesday night against the Braves. He received the nod at the hot corner in place of Todd Frazier.
"Not really a day [off for Frazier] as much as I'm giving Hannahan a chance to play," manager Dusty Baker told MLB.com.
Hannahan entered the contest batting .308 (8 for 26) with four RBI.
"We've been playing some good baseball and winning. I think any big league player wants to play more, but that's not always the outcome," Hannahan said. "I don't make the lineup card out. I focus on the things I can control, and that's preparing to play every day or preparing to come off the bench for a big pinch-hit or to go play defense. Some things in baseball you can't control."

Hannahan went 0-for-1 after subbing during the sixth inning, leaving him with a .225/.311/.275 line this spring.
