Reds making sure not to rush Jack Hannahan

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/13/2014) Reds infielder Jack Hannahan, who is working his way back from October shoulder surgery, has gone 3 for 9 (.333) with one double and one RBI in three games since beginning a rehab assignment with Class A Dayton. He has been the DH all three games.

"He's starting to do some things at first base and we're segueing probably from DH to first base and eventually to third base," Reds manager Bryan Price said, per MLB.com. "But he's doing some different throws -- like that 3-6-1 double play -- which requires a different arm angle and footwork. So every time we reintegrate something, there's typically a little more soreness afterward, as you would expect while getting into shape.

"So we're taking a step and then we're taking a day off for recovery. He felt great yesterday."

Jack Hannahan to make pinch-hit debut Thursday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/12/2014) Reds infielder Jack Hannahan is expected to make his spring debut in a pinch-hit appearance Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Hannahan is recovering from surgery to repair a sore labrum and will be limited to DH duties until he's healthy enough to play the field. The team wants to get a look at him at multiple positions this spring to determine his role for the regular season.

"He's going to play all over the place," manager Bryan Price said Wednesday. "You guys have seen these games where we play a lot of guys in their second and third position just to see what value they provide us. I know Jack hasn't played a great deal of shortstop in the big leagues. However, if we need a guy to play over there for a game or two, it would be nice to know he was capable of doing it."

Jack Hannahan still questionable for opener?

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/8/2014) Reds general manager Bryan Price indicated Saturday that third baseman Jack Hannahan could still be in danger of missing opening day, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Hannahan is throwing every other day from 90 feet as he continues to work his way back from offseason shoulder surgery.

Jack Hannahan hits pinch-hit homer

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(9/11/2013) Reds pinch-hitter Jack Hannahan came on for pitcher J.J. Hoover in the sixth inning of Wednesday's home game against the Cubs. Hannahan went deep in the pinch-hit at-bat as he homered for the first time this season.

Hannahan only saw that one at-bat as he hit a three-run homer off starter Jeff Samardzija that broke the starter's back. He's batting .225 on the year for Cincinnati.

The 33-year-old Hannahan has seen just 129 at-bats this season and that was his first HR. He has just 14 runs batted in on the season as mostly a pinch-hit specialist for the Reds.

Jack Hannahan sees time at keystone

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/5/2013) Reds infielder Jack Hannahan received his first major league start at second base Wednesday, in place of the injured Brandon Phillips. But, according to MLB.com, it is likely just a one time thing, with Phillips expected to return Friday.

Hannahan has appeared in just one game at second base in the majors prior to Wednesday, back in 2009 , when he played two innings for the Athletics.

Hannahan has appeared in 33 games this season, with just eight starts, all at third base. He is batting .208 with a .540 OPS in 53 at-bats.

Jack Hannahan could be used at second base Monday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6/3/2013) With Brandon Phillips out of the lineup Monday with an injured forearm, Reds third baseman Jack Hannahan may be used as a substitute for starter Cesar Izturis if needed, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Hannahan has played two innings of second base in his major-league career, but has 134 games of experience at the position in the minors.

"I told him to work out there in case I have to hit for Izturis," manager Dusty Baker told the Enquirer. "Jack says he can play second and he says he can play short. He’s a little short on the foot speed of the other two guys, but everyone is compared to Brandon. He has good hands, he’ll catch the balls hit to him. The main thing is I wanted to see him turn double plays and see that he knows what he’s doing. I may have to tell him to just make sure you get one, but he looked pretty good around the bag."

Jack Hannahan slotted at DH

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/29/2013) The Reds are using third baseman Jack Hannahan as their designated hitter and batting him ninth for Wednesday's interleague game in Cleveland against the Indians.

Hannahan drew the start at third base Tuesday and went 2 for 5 with a double, one run and one RBI. He was 1 for 19 in May heading into that start, however.

Jack Hannahan receives rare start

by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com
(5/7/2013) Reds third baseman Jack Hannahan made just his fourth start Tuesday night against the Braves. He received the nod at the hot corner in place of Todd Frazier.

"Not really a day [off for Frazier] as much as I'm giving Hannahan a chance to play," manager Dusty Baker told MLB.com.

Hannahan entered the contest batting .308 (8 for 26) with four RBI.

"We've been playing some good baseball and winning. I think any big league player wants to play more, but that's not always the outcome," Hannahan said. "I don't make the lineup card out. I focus on the things I can control, and that's preparing to play every day or preparing to come off the bench for a big pinch-hit or to go play defense. Some things in baseball you can't control."
