A's clear space off 40-man roster

(10/13/2009) The Athletics outrighted pitcher Dan Giese, pitcher Kevin Cameron, pitcher Edgar G. Gonzalez and catcher Eric Munson to the minor leagues.

Giese has successful surgery

(6/11/2009) A's reliever Dan Giese underwent surgery Tuesday for a nerve problem in his right elbow. "Everything went as planned," manager Bob Geren said.

A's move Giese to 60-day DL

(6/2/2009) The Oakland Athletics transferred RHP Dan Giese (elbow) from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL on Tuesday.

Giese to have MRI Wednesday

(5/27/2009) The Oakland Tribune reports that A's RP Dan Giese will get an MRI Wednesday that should help determine whether he needs surgery on his injured elbow.

Giese hoping to avoid surgery

(5/19/2009) The Sports Xchange notes that Dan Giese, who was placed on the disabled list with an irritated ulnar nerve, said he has had the problem on and off since 2007 and he hopes it will not require surgery. The problem causes numbness down into his hand and generally takes at least two weeks to recover from.

Giese placed on 15-day DL

(5/18/2009) The Oakland Athletics put pitcher Dan Giese on the 15-day disabled list and recalled left-hander Gio Gonzalez from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. Giese has a nerve problem near his right elbow.

Giese loses in first 2009 start

(5/7/2009) A's RP Dan Giese (0-3) went 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits during a 3-2 loss to the Rangers Wednesday. He did not walk a batter and struck out three in his first start of the season after taking over for Dana Eveland, who was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. The A's have not had a starter go more than six innings in any of their last 13 games. Giese allowed a solo homer to Elivs Andrus in the first, then a sac fly to David Murphy in the fourth which was followed by a Chris Davis RBI single.

Giese called up by A's

(4/18/2009) The Oakland Athletics have optioned left-hander Jerry Blevins to Triple-A Sacramento and recalled right-hander Dan Giese from the minor league club.

A's get Giese, designate Schroder

(4/8/2009) The Oakland Athletics acquired pitcher Dan Giese off waivers from the Yankees and designated journeyman reliever Chris Schroder for assignment Wednesday. They have 10 days to trade, release or outright Schroder to the minor leagues. They assigned Giese to the minors after claiming him.

Giese designated for assignment

(4/5/2009) The Yankees designated RP Dan Giese for assignment on Saturday to make room for infielder Ramiro Pena.

Yankees trim spring roster by four

(3/31/2009) Yankees pitchers Alfredo Aceves, Dan Giese and Brett Tomko were all sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, along with catcher Kevin Cash.

Yanks long RP decision comes Saturday

Giese to return in bullpen Tuesday

(9/2/2008) Dan Giese will be activated from the DL on Tuesday, according to the N.Y. Post. With Joba Chamberlain also set to return, the Yankees will have 10 relievers.

Giese suffers same fate as Joba

(8/15/2008) Slumping center fielder Melky Cabrera was demoted to the minors Friday, the biggest move in a mini shakeup by the struggling New York Yankees as they tried to regroup for a playoff push. The Yankees also designated backup first baseman Richie Sexson for assignment and placed pitcher Dan Giese on the disabled list. The club brought up three players from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre: outfielder Brett Gardner, infielder Cody Ransom and reliever Chris Britton.

Giese expected to go on 15-day DL

(8/14/2008) Yankees right-hander Dan Giese, injured in Wednesday's game with Minnesota, will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with rotator cuff tendinitis. He was examined Thursday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The Yankees will fill Giese's roster spot on Friday.

Giese questionable for Tuesday start

(8/13/2008) Yankees manager Joe Girardi said RHPs Phil Hughes and Carl Pavano will both make at least one more rehab start in the minors Sunday. "There's still work to be done," Girardi said. Dan Giese has been slated to start next Tuesday, but his sixth-inning relief appearance Wednesday at Minnesota ended after 15 pitches due to stiffness in his right shoulder.

Giese still in rotation for now

(8/13/2008) LoHud.com reports that Phil Hughes will start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre on Sunday, so he will not be making a major league start until Aug. 23 at Baltimore at the earliest. That means Dan Giese is still going to make his next scheduled start Tuesday at Toronto.

Bullpen blows win for Giese

(8/9/2008) Dan Giese allowed a run and three hits over six innings Saturday at the Angels and struck out five in his third big league start. The 31-year-old right-hander handed a 3-1 lead to Jose Veras, who promptly surrendered solo homers by Anderson and Napoli in the seventh.

Giese bumped back to Saturday

(8/6/2008) Joba Chamberlain was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday by the New York Yankees with rotator cuff tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. The club said Chamberlain will rest for about a week before beginning a throwing program. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he had no specifics to report regarding Chamberlain's examination by noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Alabama. Chamberlain was sent to see Andrews after undergoing an MRI on his ailing right shoulder Tuesday. Ian Kennedy is expected to be called up from the minors to start Friday, when the Yankees continue their 10-game road trip at the Los Angeles Angels. Dan Giese will start Saturday. RP Chris Britton was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Chamberlain on the roster.

Giese picked to start Friday

(8/4/2008) Yankees manager Joe Girardi announced Monday that rookie right-hander Dan Giese would replace right-hander Darrell Rasner as Friday night's starter against the Los Angeles Angels. Rasner was knocked around for five earned runs in four innings on Sunday. Giese pitched three scoreless innings of relief in the same game. "Giese has gotten people out," Girardi said. "We've used him as a starter, in long relief, and just for an inning. He's throwing strikes."

Giese back in bullpen role

(7/1/2008) The Sports Xchange reports that Dan Giese readjusted nicely to the bullpen Monday against Texas, throwing a scoreless inning as he returned to a relief role.

Giese going back to bullpen

(6/28/2008) Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Sidney Ponson will get another start, on Wednesday night against his former team, the Texas Rangers. Dan Giese is headed back to the bullpen, but was not available Saturday against the Mets after starting the opener of Friday's two-stadium doubleheader.

Giese roughed up by Mets

(6/27/2008) Dan Giese (1-3) allowed six runs and five hits in four-plus innings Friday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader against the Mets. He allowed six earned runs off five hits and four walks. He struck out three batters, but it wasn't enough to save him from his third loss of the season.
