A 10-year veteran, Diaz signed with the club in late March. He hit just .222/.280/.333 in 108 at-bats with the Braves last year. Infielder Nick Green was sent to Triple-A in order to make room for Diaz.

(3/17/2013) The Yankees have released outfielder Matt Diaz. It was first reported that Diaz was reassigned to minor-league camp.

Yankees send outfielder Matt Diaz to minor-league camp

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/17/2013) The New York Yankees reassigned 35-year-old outfielder Matt Diaz to minor-league camp on Sunday.

This move makes sense after the Yankees added Ben Francisco and Brennan Boesch to the roster.

The veteran Diaz batted just .192 this spring and did not have an extra-base hit. He will likely begin the season in the minors.

Diaz yanked into action

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(2/24/2013) After one plate appearance Sunday that didn't even involve them, Yankees outfielders Matt Diaz and Juan Rivera went from vying for a bench spot to possible opening day starter. Both veterans are expected to earn more playing time this spring after starting left fielder Curtis Granderson suffered a broken right forearm during New York's Grapefruit League game against Toronto and will be sidelined the next 10 weeks. "We'll be forced to take a look at a short-term option," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. "It's very early. We're still evaluating what we actually have in camp. The first month there will be a vacancy that we need to fill. Is that internal, external, I couldn't even tell you."

Diaz gets minors deal from Yanks

(12/26/2012) The New York Daily News reported Wednesday that the Yankees have signed outfielder Matt Diaz to a minor-league contract. The deal also includes an invitation to spring training.
