(9/18/2007) Orioles SP Jon Leicester matched Yankees SP Mike Mussina, who pitched seven scoreless, through the first three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth. New York batted around and scored six times. Leicester left after the inning, having given up six hits and a walk. He struck out two in taking his second loss of the season.

Leicester stymies Angels Thursday


(9/13/2007) Jon Leicester and three relievers combined on a five-hitter to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-0 victory against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night. Leicester (2-1) became Baltimore's first starter to not give up a run since Erik Bedard held the New York Yankees scoreless on Aug. 15, a span of 25 games. Leicester was the last Baltimore starter to earn a victory, beating Boston in his last outing on Sept. 8.

Leicester earns another start


(9/10/2007) Orioles manager Dave Trembley announced his starting rotation for a three-game series with Los Angeles starting Tuesday: Victor Santos, Daniel Cabrera and Jon Leicester. Santos will be making his Orioles debut and Leicester will be making his third major league start. The two starters for the O's might be Radhames Liz and recently acquired Victor Zambrano, who the O's had intended to use in relief first, but might be needed to start over the weekend because Jeremy Guthrie (oblique) could be shut down for the season.

(9/8/2007) Orioles SP Jon Leicester allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings Saturday against the Red Sox to earn his first big league win since Sept. 19, 2004 with the Cubs. It was his second career start; the last one came in 2005. He walked one and struck out two Saturday.

(5/7/2007) Jon Leicester became the latest addition to the ever-changing pitching staff of the Baltimore Orioles, joining the bullpen Monday as a long man in place of Kurt Birkins. Birkins pitched three innings Sunday, and he was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Leicester's contract was purchased from Triple-A Norfolk, and the Orioles transferred left-hander Adam Loewen from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.

O's hand out slew of minor deals


(1/6/2007) Baltimore announced minor league contracts Friday with right-hander Jose Acevedo, who went 18-25 with a 5.74 ERA in five seasons with Cincinnati and Colorado; right-hander Rob Bell, 30-34 with a 5.69 ERA in six seasons with Cincinnati, Texas and Tampa Bay; and right-hander Francis Beltran, 2-2 with a 5.87 ERA in two seasons with the Cubs and Montreal. Also agreeing to minor league contracts were right-handers Freddy Deza, Michael Doyne, Steve Green, Jon Leicester, Victor Moreno, and left-hander Chris Waters. In addition, the Orioles gave minor league deals to catcher J.R. House, infielders Mike Cervanek, Jason Dubois, Jon Knott, Brandon Sing and Terry Tiffee; and outfielders Luis Montanez and Ruddy Yan.
