(11/15/2006) The Mets acquired outfielder Ben Johnson and right-handed relief pitcher Jon Adkins from the Padres in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Heath Bell and left-handed relief pitcher Royce Ring. Adkins, 29, went 2-1 with a 3.98 ERA in 55 games for the Padres last season. In 54 1/3 innings, he allowed 55 hits, 26 runs, 24 earned, with 20 walks and 30 strikeouts. "Jon Adkins has had success on the major-league level and can pitch multiple innings," GM Omar Minaya said. "He's another quality arm to add to our bullpen."

(5/12/2006) The Padres placed catcher Rob Bowen on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left thumb and recalled outfielder-first baseman Paul McAnulty from Triple-A Portland on Friday. The club also recalled right-handed pitcher Jon Adkins from Portland and outrighted pitcher Dewon Brazelton to Triple-A. Bowen was hit by Prince Fielder's foul tip with two outs in the fourth inning of Friday's game against Milwaukee. He caught the last two pitches of the inning, then left the game.

Adkins, a 28-year-old right-hander, spent most of 2005 at Triple-A Charlotte, going 4-9 with a 5.37 ERA in 23 games (21 starts). He was 2-4 with a 5.08 ERA in 59 relief outings with the Sox from 2003-05.
