(3/17/2009) The St. Louis Cardinals optioned OF Brian Barton, RHPs Mitchell Boggs, Matthew Scherer and LHP Charlie Manning to Triple-A Memphis.

(10/16/2008) The Cardinals claimed left-handed reliever Charlie Manning off waivers from Washington on Wednesday. The 29-year-old Manning was added to the Cardinals' 40-man major league roster. To make room, the team designated first baseman Josh Phelps for assignment.

Manning hammered, takes loss Tuesday


(9/10/2008) The back-to-back homers Tuesday, the sixth time for the Mets this season, came off Charlie Manning (1-3). "Two really bad pitches there. A fastball to (Carlos) Beltran up. Then a slider to (Carlos) Delgado I kind of hung, and right now he's locked in," Manning said. "I went out there to try to be aggressive, but I let my team down."

Manning gets back on track


(7/8/2008) According to The Sports Xchange notes: LHP Charlie Manning bounced back after a rough stretch to record some key outs over the weekend. Manning, a 28-year-old rookie reliever, was roughed up in consecutive appearances Tuesday and Wednesday in Florida, but he rebounded in Cincinnati to retire OF Ken Griffey Jr. three consecutive times and OF Adam Dunn once.

(5/23/2008) The Washington Nationals optioned left-hander Matt Chico and reliever Chris Schroder to Triple-A Columbus on Friday and selected the contracts of outfielder Ryan Langerhans, right-hander Brian Sanches and left-hander Charlie Manning.

Detwiler among Nats cuts Wednesday


(3/5/2008) First-round draft pick Ross Detwiler and Mike Bacsik, who gave up Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th homer, were among 16 players the Nationals reassigned to minor league camp at spring training Wednesday. Left-handers Detwiler, the No. 6 overall pick in June's amateur draft, Bacsik, Josh Smoker, Mike Hinckley and Charlie Manning, and right-handers Tristan Crawford, Ismael Ramirez and Jim Ed Warden were the pitchers sent to minor league camp. Also reassigned: catcher Devin Ivany; infielders William Bergolla, Yurendell De Caster and Antonio Perez; and outfielders Roger Bernadina, Frank Diaz, Tommy Murphy and Jorge Padilla. The Nationals also assigned two players to big league camp: right-hander Adam Carr and shortstop Ian Desmond. The moves trim Washington's spring roster from 76 to 62 players.

Nationals hand out spring invites


(2/7/2008) The Nationals signed RHP Rob Bell, RHP Charlie Manning, RHP Ismael Ramirez, C Wil Nieves, C Javi Herrera and LHP Katsuhiko Maekawa to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training. Also, they invited farm hands RHP Collin Balester, OF Frank Diaz and LHP Josh Smoker to spring training.
