Javier Lopez staying with Giants

(11/21/2013) Left-handed reliever Javier Lopez agreed to a three-year, $13 million deal with the Giants Thursday, keeping him with the team where he's spent the last 3 1/2 seasons.

Lopez compiled a 1.83 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 8.5 strikeouts per nine innings in 69 appearances last season. A left-handed specialist, he pitched only 39 1/3 innings.

Lopez turned in the best season of his career in 2013, going 4-2 with a 1.83 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB ratio in 39 1/3 innings with the Giants.

(11/16/2013) The Nationals have significant interest in free-agent lefty reliever Oliver Perez, the Washington Post reports. The team has also expressed interest in free-agent left-handers Javier Lopez and Boone Logan, while Manny Parra and J.P. Howell may also be free-agent options.

Perez spent the 2011 season in the Nationals organization, going 3-5 with a 3.09 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 58:27 K:BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings over 16 appearances (15 starts) with Double-A Harrisburg. He pitched for the Mariners strictly as a reliever over the last two seasons, going 4-6 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 98:36 K:BB ratio in 82 2/3 innings.

(11/7/2013) Free agent relief pitcher Javier Lopez has received interest from a "significant number" of teams, his representative told MLB.com. However, talks with other teams are "very preliminary" and Lopez is still open to returning to the Giants.

Lopez made 236 appearances with the Giants since coming over in a mid-season trade in 2010, going 14-4 with a 2.26 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 121:14 K:BB ratio in 147 1/3 innings.

(8/27/2013) Giants regulars Tim Lincecum, Hunter Pence and Javier Lopez all went on waivers Saturday, and all were claimed by teams, reports CBS Sports Baesball Insider Jon Heyman Monday.

That said, "none of them are going anywhere," according to a person familiar with the situation.

Although San Francisco can still trade any of those players, it appears the claiming teams did so in order to block trades. The Giants don't have any interest in trading any of the players mentioned.

There a decent chance Lopez will be dealt, but Tim Lincecum and Hunter Pence are likely to stay. Lopez has a 1.42 ERA in 25 1/3 innings. He's drawn interest from the Tigers and Indians thus far.

Javier Lopez, who is scheduled to be a free agent after the season, could be a candidate to be traded if the Giants decide to become sellers.

Lopez also struck out two with no walks. "I definitely felt like it was my first time out there in a while, but it's nice to get that one out of the way," Lopez told MLB.com. "It's on to bigger and better things now."

(2/20/2013) San Francisco left-hander Javier Lopez will miss up to a week after a warmup pitch hit him on the top of his left hand during practice Tuesday. Lopez, who was catching for fellow left-hander Madison Bumgarner at the time, showed off the injury Wednesday, two days after the injury. The seams of the baseball were clearly visible on his hand. Giants manager Bruce Bochy was not too concerned about it and did not think it will put Lopez behind schedule.

Lopez had to cut his day short after a baseball hit his left hand and then deflected up into his face. Lopez did have X-rays on his left hand, but they came back negative. He has a bruise and is considered day to day.
