Rich Harden to throw live batting practice

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(7/8/2013) Twins pitcher Rich Harden is scheduled to throw live batting practice this week as he continues to work back to the major leagues, the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports.

The injury-plagued hurler, who hasn't pitched in the majors since Sept. 25, 2011, is looking to make a comeback in the bullpen.

Harden has thrown several pain-free bullpen sessions and will need to continue to prove he can remain healthy before the Twins allow him to go on an injury rehab assignment.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/17/2013) Twins pitcher Rich Harden threw batting practice this week and felt discomfort in his shoulder, assistant general manager Rob Antony told MLB.com Friday.

Harden, who is recovering from right shoulder surgery, was expected to ramp up his activity. Instead, the Twins are expected to take a more cautious approach with the 31-year-old.

(4/28/2013) Twins general manager Terry Ryan said pitcher Rich Harden experienced some soreness in his right shoulder this past week, but he's expected to ramp up his activity this week, according to MLB.com. Harden continues to rehab from offseason shoulder surgery.

Rich Harden to throw batting practice Tuesday

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(4/21/2013) Twins pitcher Rich Harden is slated to throw batting practice at the club's spring training home in Fort Myers, FL on Tuesday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Harden is rehabilitating from a shoulder injury. His contract calls for the Twins to either call him up by July 31 or make him a free agent.

There is still no timetable on the right-hander.

Rich Harden to throw live BP

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/9/2013) Twins pitcher Rich Harden, who is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, is expected to throw a live batting practice Saturday, according to The Star Tribune.

Harden may be called up by the Twins once he completes his rehab. The 31-year-old has not pitched in the majors since 2011. He went 4-4 with a 5.12 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 15 starts for the A's that year.

Keep an eye on Rich Harden

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/29/2013) Rich Harden was reassigned to minor-league camp on Friday, but it had more to do with him not quite being ready than it did with him being unable to perform at a major-league level. With a Twins rotation full of possible implosions, Harden could be in game shape and in the rotation by June 1.

It's easy to forget how good Harden was, with a 3.23 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, over his first six seasons, as he struck out a batter per inning. Injuries that started in 2007 finally caught up to him, and Harden tanked from 2009 to 2011, not even pitching in 2012. But he's still just 31, and even in the dark 2009-2011 span, Harden struck out over a batter per inning.

In this article, Harden explains he pitched through pain the last few years, adjusting mechanics and throwing junk to try and get batters out. With a repaired shoulder, he's worth at least tracking over the next two months. If things look promising as he progresses, Harden could be a sly, high-strikeout Fantasy add just as he's about to be recalled.

Twins reassign Rich Harden to minor-league camp

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(3/29/2013) Twins pitcher Rich Harden has been reassigned to minor-league camp, the club announced Friday.

Harden, 31, is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. If he can get healthy, Harden will be considered for a starting role with Minnesota.

Rich Harden takes encouraging step

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(3/24/2013) Twins pitcher Rich Harden threw a successful bullpen session Sunday -- his first of the spring -- as he continues his extensive rehab from shoulder surgery.

Harden, who had been restricted to long tossing, fired 26 pitches in the bullpen and is scheduled to throw again later this week.

"Much better," pitching coach Rick Anderson told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Really good."

There is no timetable for Harden's return to game action and his role with the team is undefined.

Harden recovery coming slowly

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/3/2013) Minnesota pitchers Rich Harden and Rafael Perez are each coming off surgeries to their respective shoulders, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune Sunday. Harden's was more extensive than Perez's. Both hurlers are working towards getting back on a mound and each threw in the bullpen before it was determined they'd need more time. Now, they are each completing long-toss drills.

Harden feels good after bullpen

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(2/13/2013) Minnesota starting candidate Rich Harden took the mound for his first official bullpen of the spring on Wednesday, reports MLB.com. Harden underwent shoulder surgery at this time last year and missed the entire 2012 season. He's now in camp as a non-roster invitee just looking for a chance. "It felt pretty good," said Harden. "It was fun. It was good to get back out there. I'm hoping it'll feel the same when I start facing hitters. I threw mostly fastballs because I'm trying to get that feel back."

Twins prefer Harden as SP

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(1/9/2013) Right-hander Rich Harden, who will attempt to win a job with the Twins this spring after missing all of 2012 because of surgery to repair a torn shoulder capsule, is more likely to make the team as a reliever, according to 1500 ESPN Twin Cities, but the Twins would prefer to see him as a starter. "He has done both," general manager Terry Ryan said. "And I would tell you starter if the health issue was not a part of this thing, but he's not been healthy. So we have to keep that option open."

Harden lands deal with Twins

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(12/21/2012) Oft-injured pitcher Rich Harden agreed to a minor-league contract with Minnesota on Friday with an invitation to compete for a spot on the staff in spring training. The 31-year-old Harden didn't pitch at all last season as he recovered from January shoulder surgery. In 2011, he registered a 5.12 ERA in 82 2/3 innings for the Athletics. For his career, the right-hander possesses a 3.76 ERA and 949 strikeouts in 928 1/3 innings.
