Karstens takes Scott Proctor's roster spot and Basak's demotion clears the way for Wilson Betemit, who was obtained from the Dodgers in a trade deadline deal.

DeSalvo lasted only 1 1/3 innings, gave up two earned runs, and did not show much aggressiveness against the struggling White Sox.
