(5/25/2015) The Reds have activated veteran left-hander Manny Parra off the disabled list after a month rehabbing a neck injury, per the Cincinnati Enquirer. He had originally been eligible to return on May 9.

Parra comes back with a 2.70 ERA, but having given up seven hits in 3 1/3 innings in seven appearances.

Parra logged in one inning of work. It remains to be seen how many outings he'll need before he is activated from the disabled list.

(5/19/2015) Reds left-handed pitcher Manny Parra will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday, the team announced. Parra will pitch for Triple-A Louisville.

He has been on the disabled list since the end of April with a strained neck. He suffered a slight setback during his recovery, but he appears on track to return to the team soon, though the Reds did not provide a specific return date for the 32-year-old.

(5/17/2015) Reds reliever Manny Parra has suffered a slight setback in his recovery from a strained neck and now his return date from the disabled list is unknown, reports MLB.com. 

Parra went on the DL April 29 and had been eligible to return May 9. 

"He had a little bit of elbow tenderness that has been completely checked out. I don't want to say it's a non-issue ... but it's been checked out," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "It's part of the aches and pains of throwing the baseball. He's getting very close to being back pitching again." 

In seven appearances this season, Parra is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA.

(4/29/2015) The Reds announced Wednesday they moved starting pitcher Homer Bailey from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville to start against Milwaukee. 

"We'll explore rehab and all options before deciding on potential surgery," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said about Bailey, per MLB Network Radio.

The Reds also announced reliever Manny Parra was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained neck. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in seven appearances (3 1/3 innings).

"It comes and goes. Hopefully with some work and getting on a regimen, I'll be able to prevent it from happening," said Parra, who can be activated May 9, per MLB.com. "I don't expect it to be any longer than it has to. I'm feeling a lot better today, but we have to make sure we have enough arms."


Reds' Manny Parra credited with loss against Cubs

(4/14/2015) Reds reliever Manny Parra was credited with one earned run in the bottom of the 10th inning of Cincinnati's 7-6 loss to the Cubs. As a result, he received a loss Monday night. 

Parra walked Anthony Rizzo and then gave up a single to Jorge Soler, moving Rizzo to third base. Parra then walked Chris Coghlan, which loaded the bases. Burke Badenhop came in, recorded one out but then allowed Chicago's game-winning single to Arismendy Alcantara, which scored Rizzo. 

This was the first earned run Parra has been charged with this season. He now holds an ERA of 9.00. 


Jason Marquis strikes out seven in Reds no decision

(4/10/2015) Jason Marquis started his first MLB game since July 19, 2013 and earned a no decision in the Reds 5-4 win over the Cardinals. 

Marquis struck out seven in six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks. 

Marquis threw 104 pitches, 61 for strikes. He left with the lead, but a blown save by Manny Parra cost him the win. 

Marquis retired 12 straight at one point. Marquis is expected to make his next start on Wednesday, against the Cubs and Travis Wood. 


Reds finalize bullpen for start of season

(4/2/2015) With the surprising demotion of reliever Sam LeCure to the minors Thursday, the Reds' Opening Day bullpen is set.

It will feature closer Aroldis Chapman, Burke Badenhop, Kevin Gregg, Jumbo Diaz, Tony Cingrani, Manny Parra and J.J. Hoover, per MLB.com.

Gregg was the only non-roster invitee among the group.


Reds still sorting out bullpen options

(3/19/2015) While Aroldis Chapman is locked in as the Reds' closer, the eighth-inning job remains up in the air for the club as spring training winds down, according to MLB.com. 

Sean Marshall is still recovering from shoulder surgery in 2014, leaving the set-up man spot as an open competition between a trio of players - Sam LeCure, Manny Parra and J.J. Hoover

"I think right now what we're doing is we're trying to figure out who our best options are," Reds manager Bryan Price said. 

"We're going to have to evolve as a bullpen. I think we know that Chapman's the closer and that we're going to have to evolve into roles to a certain degree," Price added. "Opening Day, I couldn't tell you who would be in the eighth inning. … There's a lot of balls in the air with the bullpen beyond the closer."

A day after J.J. Hoover allowed a walkoff grand slam, the Reds turned to Parra to get the job done. Parra was perfect over his two inning stint, striking out two hitters. He forced three groundball outs as well. It was Parra's first save of the year. It's unclear if Parra will continue to be used in the role moving forward.

(11/16/2013) The Nationals have significant interest in free-agent lefty reliever Oliver Perez, the Washington Post reports. The team has also expressed interest in free-agent left-handers Javier Lopez and Boone Logan, while Manny Parra and J.P. Howell may also be free-agent options.

Perez spent the 2011 season in the Nationals organization, going 3-5 with a 3.09 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 58:27 K:BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings over 16 appearances (15 starts) with Double-A Harrisburg. He pitched for the Mariners strictly as a reliever over the last two seasons, going 4-6 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 98:36 K:BB ratio in 82 2/3 innings.


Four Reds reserves miss out on qualifying offers

(11/4/2013) The Reds did not make qualifying offers to the following players on Monday, according to MLB.com: infielder Cesar Izturis and relievers Manny Parra, Zach Duke and Nick Masset.

Izturis served as a utility infielder this season, while Parra and Duke worked out of the bullpen. Masset did not pitch in 2013 due to shoulder issues and thoracic outlet syndrome.

(7/28/2013) Relievers J.J. Hoover and Manny Parra has been outstanding out of the Reds' bullpen lately. Hoover hasn't allowed a run in his last 17 innings (14 appearances), while Parra has a 14 2/3 scoreless innings streak (18 appearances) through Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Hoover, who has lowered his ERA from 5.40 to 3.30, has struck out 21 batters during his scoreless streak, while allowing seven hits and six walks. He also has two wins and one hold in that span.

Parra has struck out 17 during his scoreless innings streak, while walking three and allowing five hits. He's lowered his ERA from 8.44 to 3.55, while picking up one win and four holds in that span.

(6/20/2013) Reds reliever Manny Parra earned his first win during Wednesday's 13-inning game against the Pirates. Parra has thrown five straight scoreless outings (4 1/3 innings).

Parra has been able to develop a breaking ball with the help of fellow left-handed reliever Sean Marshall.

"He's got the stuff. I've told him that there a lot of left-handers having success that don't have the stuff he has," Reds manager Dusty Baker said to MLB.com. "They don't throw 91-94 [mph]. It's a matter of location and when you throw stuff. There were a couple of games that I had to match him up out of need that he shouldn't have been in there. That happens, too, if your bullpen is overworked."
