Manny Parra dealing with back injury

(7/29/2014) Reds reliever Manny Parra is dealing with a back injury and might not be available to pitch Tuesday vs. Arizona, manager Bryan Price told reporters. Parra hasn't allowed a run in his last 18 appearances (8 2/3 innings) and has eight holds in that span.

(7/8/2014) Reds reliever Manny Parra pitched for the first time in a week Tuesday against the Cubs, after taking some time off with a shoulder injury.

Parra pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking out one batter and walking one on 13 pitches in the 4-2 win. He has a 4.24 ERA in 23 1/3 innings on the season.

(4/6/2014) Reds reliever Manny Parra picked up a two inning save against the Mets Sunday. 

A day after J.J. Hoover allowed a walkoff grand slam, the Reds turned to Parra to get the job done. Parra was perfect over his two inning stint, striking out two hitters. He forced three groundball outs as well. It was Parra's first save of the year. It's unclear if Parra will continue to be used in the role moving forward.

(11/27/2013) CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports that the Reds have agreed on a new deal with reliever Manny Parra. The lefty's deal will pay him $5.5 million over two years.

Parra spent 2013 with the Reds, pitching in 57 games and posting a 3.33 ERA while notching 56 strikeouts in 46 innings.


Nationals interested in Oliver Perez, other left-handed relievers

(11/16/2013) The Nationals have significant interest in free-agent lefty reliever Oliver Perez, the Washington Post reports. The team has also expressed interest in free-agent left-handers Javier Lopez and Boone Logan, while Manny Parra and J.P. Howell may also be free-agent options.

Perez spent the 2011 season in the Nationals organization, going 3-5 with a 3.09 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 58:27 K:BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings over 16 appearances (15 starts) with Double-A Harrisburg. He pitched for the Mariners strictly as a reliever over the last two seasons, going 4-6 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 98:36 K:BB ratio in 82 2/3 innings.


Four Reds reserves miss out on qualifying offers

(11/4/2013) The Reds did not make qualifying offers to the following players on Monday, according to MLB.com: infielder Cesar Izturis and relievers Manny Parra, Zach Duke and Nick Masset.

Izturis served as a utility infielder this season, while Parra and Duke worked out of the bullpen. Masset did not pitch in 2013 due to shoulder issues and thoracic outlet syndrome.

(7/28/2013) Relievers J.J. Hoover and Manny Parra has been outstanding out of the Reds' bullpen lately. Hoover hasn't allowed a run in his last 17 innings (14 appearances), while Parra has a 14 2/3 scoreless innings streak (18 appearances) through Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Hoover, who has lowered his ERA from 5.40 to 3.30, has struck out 21 batters during his scoreless streak, while allowing seven hits and six walks. He also has two wins and one hold in that span.

Parra has struck out 17 during his scoreless innings streak, while walking three and allowing five hits. He's lowered his ERA from 8.44 to 3.55, while picking up one win and four holds in that span.

(6/20/2013) Reds reliever Manny Parra earned his first win during Wednesday's 13-inning game against the Pirates. Parra has thrown five straight scoreless outings (4 1/3 innings).

Parra has been able to develop a breaking ball with the help of fellow left-handed reliever Sean Marshall.

"He's got the stuff. I've told him that there a lot of left-handers having success that don't have the stuff he has," Reds manager Dusty Baker said to MLB.com. "They don't throw 91-94 [mph]. It's a matter of location and when you throw stuff. There were a couple of games that I had to match him up out of need that he shouldn't have been in there. That happens, too, if your bullpen is overworked."

(5/24/2013) After appearing in three games for Double-A Pensacola, the Reds activated reliever Manny Parra from the disabled list Friday. Parra has been out since April 23 due to a pectoral injury.

The Reds placed Sean Marshall on the 15-day disabled list to make room for Parra on the active roster.

(5/22/2013) Reds reliever Manny Parra is set to continue his minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville Thursday, as he continues to recover from a strained left pectoral muscle.

Parra has made three starts at Double-A Pensacola, pitching five combined scoreless innings. Parra has been out since the end of April.

(4/26/2013) The Reds placed reliever Manny Parra on the 15-day disabled list with a strained pectoral muscle, the team announced Friday. The move was made retro active to April 24.

Cincinnati activated reliever Sean Marshall off the 15-day DL to take Parra's spot on the 25-man roster.

Parra is 0-1 with a 8.10 ERA and has seven strikeouts and three walks over his six appearances.
