Robinson Chirinos sent down

(5/21/2013) The Texas Rangers optioned catcher Robinson Chirinos to Triple-A Round Rock Monday. Chirinos is clearing the way for A.J. Pierzynski's return from the DL Tuesday. 

Chirinos had three hits over 12 at-bats as the backup catcher while Pierzynski was on the shelf.

(5/10/2013) As expected, the Rangers recalled catcher Robinson Chirinosfrom Triple-A Round Rock Wednesday. Chirinos hit .295/.404/.487 with two home runs in 94 plate appearances at Triple-A this season.

"He's a good receiver -- catch-and-throw guy," manager Ron Washington told MLB.com. "Good power to the opposite field. He gives you a good at-bat."

(5/8/2013) Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos will be recalled from Triple-A with A.J. Pierzynski headed to the disabled list, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Chirinos has 60 plate appearances worth of experience in the major leagues, all coming with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011. He has hit .295/.404/.487 with two home runs in 94 plate appearances at Triple-A this season.

(4/8/2013) The Rangers acquired catcher Robinson Chirinos from the Rays in exchange for a player to be named later, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. Chirinos, who was designated for assignment Sunday, was assigned to Triple-A Round Rock.

(3/31/2013) The Rays designated catcher Robinson Chirinos for assignment Sunday to make room on the 40-man roster, the Tampa Bay Times reports. 

The 29-year-old Chirinos hit .222 this spring over nine at-bats. He last played in the majors in 2011 with Tampa Bay and hit .218 over 55 at-bats that year.

(3/15/2013) The Tampa Bay Rays made another wave of roster cuts Friday and optioned the following players to Triple-A Durham: infielder Tim Beckham, shortstop Hak-Ju Lee and catcher Robinson Chirinos. Beckham recently returned to action after needing stitches earlier this week to close a cut under his right eye when he was hit by a thrown baseball.

(2/11/2013) The Tampa Bay Times reports Rays catcher Robinson Chirinos is "ready to go" for spring training after missing last season with a concussion. "Everything is fine. I'm back to where I was before," he said. Chirinos isn't expected to be limited this spring. "He's full go," executive vice president Andrew Friedman said. "He got behind the plate a number of times this winter and felt good. We're excited to watch him play in camp and get him back on track to getting up here and helping us win games."
