Mike Adams leaves Dodgers' camp to due to undisclosed injury

(4/3/2015) Mike Adams left Dodgers' camp prior to Thursday's exhibition game against the Angels and informed pitching coach Rick Honeycutt he was "shutting it down," according to the Orange County Register. Details of his injury were not made public.

Adams, 36, was expected to start the season at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but turned down the $100,000 retention bonus the Dodgers agreed to pay for him to open the season in the minors. He posted a 9.64 ERA over 4 2/3 innings of work this spring.

(3/31/2015) Dodgers pitcher Mike Adams was informed he will begin the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, according to SB Nation.

Adams, 36, signed a minor-league deal with the club in early March. He posted a 2.89 ERA over 22 games in 2014. He posted a 9.64 ERA over 4 2/3 innings of work this spring.

"It's a little bit disappointing. I thought I was coming in with an opportunity to make the team. They felt that they didn't want to rush me and cram my innings in, which I understand," Adams said. "Hopefully it's something that won't take long."a

Adams has had three knee surgeries, two shoulder surgeries, two hernia surgeries and a rib removed during his career. He made his spring debut on Saturday, allowing one run and one hit in just two-thirds of an inning.

"The big test will be how I bounce back tomorrow," Adams said. "That will be the true test. Honestly, it will be a big day for me."

(9/1/2014) The Phillies announced their September callups on Monday.

Before announcing the moves, Philadelphia transferred pitcher Cliff Lee to the 60-day DL to create room on the 40-man roster. The team recalled infielder Cesar Hernandez, catcher Cameron Rupp and right-handed pitchers Luis Garcia and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Additionally, the team purchased the contracts of infielder Maikel Franco and outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr.. Right-hander Mike Adams was also activated off the disabled list.

Adams, who is rehabbing from inflammation in his right rotator cuff, hopes to be able to head to the team's spring training facility in Florida to continue his rehab there. According to MLB.com, he visited with the team physician this week and said he felt some pain while the doctor moved his shoulder. He has to be pain free before he can begin a throwing program.

Adams last worked Friday, retiring one batter before leaving the game. He had offseason shoulder surgery, so this injury is a bit concerning. At this point, the extent of the issue is not yet known, but the Philadelphia Inquirer reports he will see a specialist Monday.

Adams coughed up a late one-run advantage in the seventh inning, serving up a solo home run to Adrian Gonzalez. The offense backed him up with four runs in the ninth. He was charged with one run and one hit while striking out three over two innings of work in a 7-3 victory. It was his first run allowed over four innings pitched to start the season.
