Chris Denorfia puts end to 5-for-38 slide

(12:11 pm ET) Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia broke out of his hitting slump during Monday's 13-inning game against the Giants. Denorfia, who entered play Monday mired in a 5-for-38 slump, finished 3 for 6 with one double, one RBI, one walk and two runs.

Denorfia bumped his average back up to .282 after it slipped from .308 to .275 thanks to his prolonged slide.

Denorfia entered the game on a 3-for-29 skid in June that included just one hit in his last 16 at-bats. He has hit .282/.342/.391 in 206 at-bats.

(6/1/2013) Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia was 2 for 7 Friday night in a 17-inning win over the Blue Jays.

Denorfia has hits in nine of his last 11 games and is hitting .367 during that stretch. He also stole his seventh base. He has 10 doubles, with two home runs, 16 RBI and 22 runs scored this season.

He hit .310 in May after hitting .305 in April.

(5/21/2013) Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia tied a season-high with three hits Monday against the Cardinals. It was the second time this season he managed three hits.

Denorfia has hit safely in four of his last five games, batting .400 (8 for 20) with three RBI. His batting average has gone from .283 to .301 in that span. Denorfia is batting .294 with one double, one home run, six RBI and eight runs in 15 May games (13 starts).

(5/5/2013) Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia went 2 for 5 with a double and home run during San Diego's 8-1 win over Arizona on Saturday night. Denorfia, who started in center field before shifting to right later in the game, took Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin deep for a solo shot in the seventh inning.

It was the second outing in a row he collected two hits as he added his eighth double in the fifth inning. Denorfia also halted a four-game skid with a strikeout and is now hitting .309 on the season.

(4/16/2013) Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera and outfielder Chris Denorfia have combined to hit .300 (15 for 50) with a .431 on-base percentage in 13 games out of the leadoff spot for San Diego, according to U-T San Diego

Cabrera is batting .325 (13 for 40) with a .413 on-base percentage in 10 games as the leadoff hitter, while Denorfia is batting .200 (2 for 10) with a .333 on-base percentage in the leadoff spot.

Denorfia, who has hit safely in six of seven games, is batting .444 (8 for 18) with three doubles and three RBI in seven games.

Denorfia, who has made just four starts, hit third for the first time this season Wednesday.

(3/16/2013) After competing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic, Padres manager Bud Black gave outfielder Chris Denorfia a few days off earlier in the week. Denorfia, who hit .381 in five WBC games, appears to be itching to get back into action. 

"I'm not quite sure how many more days I need off ... I'd rather just keep going," Denorfia told MLB.com on Saturday. "But I think it was good to step back for a couple of days and relax."

"We like it," Black said the right-field platoon. "We feel good about it in a lot of ways. There's some pop, some average, good defense. We expect production, and they expect production."
