Cubs place Neil Ramirez on DL, activate Chris Denorfia

(4/17/2015) Cubs pitcher Neil Ramirez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, according to the Chicago Tribune. Ramirez injured his shoulder Wednesday against the Reds and was sent for an MRI. The team will likely know the results of his exam by Friday. The club activated outfielder Chris Denorfia from the disabled list to take his spot on the active roster.

(4/12/2015) Cubs outfielder Chris Denorfia is traveling Sunday to join high Class A Myrtle Beach for a rehab assignment, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Denorfia is on the disabled list due to a hamstring injury but was able to work out with the major-league club Saturday. He wasn't ruled out for Opening Day until very late in the spring, so it's possible his rehab assignment is a short one.

Denorfia has not played since March 17, due to a hamstring injury, and time is running out. 

"Opening Day is still in jeopardy," manager Joe Maddon said, per MLB.com. "You have to figure that out when you fill out the roster, too."

"We have to get some real clarity by [Wednesday]," Maddon said.

(3/30/2015) Cubs outfielder Chris Denorfia took batting practice Monday, though his status for Opening Day is still in question. 

Denorfia has a sore left hamstring he's recovering from and is expected to participate in a minor-league game mid-week. However, there's still a chance he's not ready to be with the Cubs when the regular season starts. 

"I don’t like to speculate on things like that,” Denorfia said, via MLB.com. “When you’re rehabbing anything can happen. As long as everything progresses the way it should, [I should be ready] sometime around that time. The goal is to be ready by then.”

(3/26/2015) Cubs outfielder Chris Denorfia, who has not appeared in a spring game since March 17 due to a sore left hamstring, might start playing in minor-league games next week, per MLB.com.

Denorfia will most likely not be ready to play in the regular-season opener.

"Opening Day is probably in jeopardy," manager Joe Maddon said Thursday.

Denorfia ran at about 40 percent Thursday and has been making progress.

"There's no sense in rushing anything," Maddon said. "When you're talking about [hamstring injuries], and guys try to push 'hammies' too quickly, then you end up with a longer healing process."

(3/26/2015) Cubs outfieldre Chris Denorfia has not played since March 17 due to a hamstring injury and may not appear in another spring game before the start of the regular season, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Due to Denorfia's injury, the team may wait until the morning of the April 5 opener to finalize the final 25-man roster, as the team may carry another outfielder, such as Ryan Sweeney or Matt Szczur, if Denorfia isn't ready to go.

Denorfia was rumored to be joining the team in December, when teammate John Baker tweeted the news. The team waited until Friday to make the move official. Denorfia signed for one year, but the terms of the deal were not released. He's hit .272/.331/.394 over 1950 career at-bats.
