The solo shot in the ninth inning closed the gap to one run, but the Padres weren't able to find any more scoring in the loss. Denorfia has hit .308/.333/.481 with seven RBI in 52 at-bats.

Denorfia, who was limited in spring training because of a sore shoulder, came up big with a two-run single in the eighth inning off Brian Wilson, breaking a 1-1 tie. He also added a single in the first inning and finished 2 for 4 with two RBI in his first game of the season.

(1/3/2014) At least a half-dozen teams have showed interest in Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia, according to GammonsDaily.com on Tuesday. General manager Josh Byrnes is not expected to deal Denorfia as long as he thinks the Padres can contend for a post-season berth.

Denorfia posted a .279/.337/.395 slash line with 10 homers and 47 RBI over 473 at-bats last season for the Padres.

Over his last nine games, Denorfia is hitting .367 with 11 hits. He is hitting .275/.332/.382 in 455 at-bats on the season.

(7/30/2013) Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia hit a walk-off, two-run homer off Reds closer Aroldis Chapman, sending San Diego to a 2-1 win Monday.

"He's not going out there trying to trick anybody," Denorfia said, per MLB.com. "He throws 100 mph."

Denorfia homered for the second time in three games Monday. He is batting .286 (4 for 14) with four RBI and four runs in his last five games (three starts).


Several Padres drawing interest on trade market

(9:46 am ET) Padres third baseman Chase Headley, outfielder Carlos Quentin and closer Huston Street are all likely to stay put as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline nears, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. However, there is major interest for Padres setup man Luke Gregerson.

The Tigers are known to have interest in Gregerson, while 2-3 more teams are said to be in heavy pursuit of the right-handed reliever. Gregerson isn't a free agent until after the 2015 season.

Gregerson isn't the only Padres' player being discussed in trade talks. Heyman reports starting pitcher Edinson Volquez, reliever Joe Thatcher, outfielders Chris Denorfia, Will Venable and Kyle Blanks, as well as infielder Logan Forsythe are drawing interest.

Denorfia bumped his average back up to .282 after it slipped from .308 to .275 thanks to his prolonged slide.

Denorfia has hit safely in four of his last five games, batting .400 (8 for 20) with three RBI. His batting average has gone from .283 to .301 in that span. Denorfia is batting .294 with one double, one home run, six RBI and eight runs in 15 May games (13 starts).

Denorfia, who started in center field before shifting to right later in the game, took Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin deep for a solo shot in the seventh inning.

It was the second outing in a row he collected two hits as he added his eighth double in the fifth inning. Denorfia also halted a four-game skid with a strikeout and is now hitting .309 on the season.

Cabrera is batting .325 (13 for 40) with a .413 on-base percentage in 10 games as the leadoff hitter, while Denorfia is batting .200 (2 for 10) with a .333 on-base percentage in the leadoff spot.
