Reds sticking with three-man rotation in left field

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/22/2014) Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday he's liked how the rotation of Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker and Chris Heisey has worked in left field that he doesn't envision changing the routine any time soon, per MLB.com.

"I'm just going to let it continue to play out," Price said. "I think the team is playing well now and we're getting the most out of Luddy and Schu. Heisey hasn't been playing as much obviously. He'll run into some really good matchups and get some starts along the way. Right now, seems to be working well with the club. I think there's something good about getting guys in there into the mix. This is one of the ways of doing that."

Though there is not set timeline for his return to competitive action, Schumaker will get as many at-bats as he needs as he continues to recover from a dislocated shoulder in spring training.

"We're going to try and be as accommodating as we can to get him as many at-bats, seeing as many pitches as possible on the front end of this thing," manager Bryan Price told MLB.com. "Once he goes to a full-season league, we can't control the environment."

Skip Schumaker could begin rehab assignment soon

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/21/2014) Reds utility player Skip Schumaker could soon begin a minor-league rehab assignment once he builds more strength, MLB.com reports.

"I think he's over the pain hurdle," manager Bryan Price said Monday. "When you have an injury like that, where it really hurts him is his ability to maintain his strength because he is so limited in what he can do with his shoulder. We're really focusing on increasing his strength and once he gets to that place, we'll get him back out into games. He's chomping at the bit to play. We're going to be a little bit conservative just to make sure we can get Skip back as close to 100 percent as we can get him this year."

Schumaker dislocated his shoulder a month ago and has yet to play in a regular-season game.

"I'm much more relaxed. Just talking to her helped me settle in. You know, you come here and you don't really know anybody, they don't know what you can do, and you try to prove yourself and show you're good enough to be part of a winning team. That's why it's been absolutely gratifying to be able to bounce back from the way I started, and I just want to continue to do that."
