For the season, Schumaker is hitting .254 in 51 at-bats.

Reds' Hamilton, Byrd, Mesoraco out of lineup Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Both Hamilton and Byrd are available if needed Sunday. With the pair out, Skip Schumaker will lead off and play left field, while Brennan Boesch will bat seventh and play center field.

Mesoraco hasn't appeared in the starting lineup since the first week of the season, as he's continued to rehab from a left hip impingement while remaining on the active roster.

The Reds are road favorites (-142) in Atlanta with Johnny Cueto on the mound.

Mesoraco hasn't played since last Sunday due to a hip injury, though he was expected to be available at some point this weekend. Tucker Barnhart will draw the start at catcher Sunday.

The Reds are heavy underdogs (+165) against the Cardinals in St. Louis Sunday.

Reds OF Skip Schumaker not concerned with lack of playing time

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/14/2015) Reds outfielder Skip Schumaker knows at his age it's tough to expect a lot of innings. He's willing to concede innings in pursuit of another championship, reports MLB.com.

"My goal at this stage of my career is to win another ring," Schumaker said. "People say that but some people just want big numbers. Of course, I want to have success but there is nothing better than being the last man standing on the field -- nothing better in the world. I just hope that guys here experience that. … Once you taste that, you want it back. That's what I want. Helping guys get there is a good thing."

Schumaker hit .235 with two homeruns and 22 RBI in 83 games in 2014. He is not planning on having to start a lot of games this year.

"I expect that to happen. That means we are doing really good. That's what I'm hoping for," Schumaker said. "You don't want your bench guys starting 50-80 games. That means we've got problems, and injury problems."

"We think (Skip) Schumaker's going to be healthy and help us," Jocketty said. "We'll give him an opportunity. We may push some of our younger guys. But we'd still think we're going to add someone."

Reds sticking with three-man rotation in left field

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/22/2014) Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday he's liked how the rotation of Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker and Chris Heisey has worked in left field that he doesn't envision changing the routine any time soon, per MLB.com.

"I'm just going to let it continue to play out," Price said. "I think the team is playing well now and we're getting the most out of Luddy and Schu. Heisey hasn't been playing as much obviously. He'll run into some really good matchups and get some starts along the way. Right now, seems to be working well with the club. I think there's something good about getting guys in there into the mix. This is one of the ways of doing that."
