Hairston close to decision

by Al Melchior | Data Analyst
(1/8/2013) ESPN.com reports that free agent outfielder Scott Hairston is down to two suitors -- the Mets and the Yankees -- and that he will decide where he will play in 2013 over the next few days. Should Hairston return to the Mets, for whom he has played the previous two seasons, he will likely fall into a starting role, whereas the Yankees are more interested in using Hairston as a backup. Hairston's preference for a multi-year deal may also work in the Mets' favor, as the Yankees have been reluctant to offer more than a one-year deal to free agents this offseason.
