Nats farmhand suspended for PEDs


(7/27/2010) Washington Nationals minor-league shortstop Pedro M. Lopez has been suspended after testing positive for Formestane. The suspension of Lopez, who is currently with Triple-A Syracuse of the International League, is effective immediately.

Pirates cut four from camp


(3/9/2009) The Pirates cut four players from their camp on Monday. RP Romulo Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, while RP Daniel Haigwood, SS Pedro M. Lopez and C Miguel Perez were all reassigned to minor league camp.

(1/6/2009) The Pirates signed shortstops Anderson Machado and Pedro M. Lopez to minor league contracts Tuesday with invitations to spring training. The 28-year-old Machado has played 24 games in the majors, but none since 2005. He spent last season in the Mets' system and has a .228 career average in the minor leagues. Lopez played last season for the Blue Jays' Triple-A club, batting .236. The 24-year-old shortstop has played 16 games in the majors. The Pirates have invited 12 non-roster players to spring training.

Lopez pinch-ran Friday in San Francisco in his only appearance since being reinstated from the disabled list on Sept. 9 after being out since July 26 with a broken left cheekbone, the result of being hit by a pitch from Milwaukee RHP Matt Wise.

(9/9/2007) The Reds activated infielder Pedro Lopez from the 15-day disabled list Sunday before their game against the Brewers. The 23-year-old had been on the disabled list since July 26 after his left cheekbone was fractured when he was hit by a pitch from Milwaukee right-hander Matt Wise a day earlier. Lopez hit .184 in 11 games before his injury.

(8/15/2007) There is still no timetable for the return of SS Pedro Lopez from the DL. He suffered a broken cheekbone when he was hit by a pitch from Milwaukee's Matt Wise on July 25. He doesn't need surgery. "He's still got soreness in his face," manager Pete Mackanin said. Lopez is also experiencing some dizziness when he exerts himself.

(7/26/2007) Pedro Lopez broke a cheekbone when he was hit on the left side of the face by a pitch, but the Reds shortstop probably won't need surgery. Lopez was hospitalized overnight for tests after he was hit by Matt Wise's pitch in the eighth inning of a 7-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night. He was expected to be released from a hospital Thursday. Cincinnati put Lopez on the 15-day DL.
