Chad Gaudin pinpoints causes of carpal tunnel

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/21/2013) Giants starting pitcher Chad Gaudin has put in extra work on his off days to get an edge on opponents, and that extra work might have proven to be his downfall. Gaudin was placed on the disabled list Tuesday due to carpal tunnel in his right hand, and Gaudin speculates that the notes he takes in between starts might be a contributing factor to his injury.

"He does a lot of writing, I know that," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

Gaudin also thinks his move to the rotation could be a contributing factor, as his arm has been put to use more often as a starter.

"It's not pain, it's not numbness. It's lack of control," said Gaudin, who began noticing something amiss almost a month ago. "It didn't feel right. It wasn't able to calm down."

It is not quite clear when Gaudin is expected to get back on the mound, but Gaudin expects to pitch again this season, according to the report. He has a 3.06 ERA in 30 appearance, including 12 starts.

Gaudin has allowed 16 earned runs combined over his last five starts (26 innings). He is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at home against Boston. He is 1-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 17 appearances (six starts) at AT&T Park.

Chad Gaudin's pitch count prevents win

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/10/2013) Giants starting pitcher Chad Gaudin struggled with his efficiency a bit and could not last long enough to earn the win Saturday against the Orioles.

Gaudin pitched five innings and held the Orioles to just one unearned run, but he racked up a high pitch count. Gaudin threw 93 pitches in his five innings of work, with three walks and six strikeouts to go with two hits allowed, both singles.

The Giants did not score until Gaudin exited the game, so he was actually in line for the loss when he left. He was able to settle for a no-decision in the outing, in a 3-2 win.

Gaudin is 5-2 on the season still, with a 2.42 ERA. He has allowed just two earned runs in his last three starts, and has a 2.48 ERA and 2-1 record in five starts since the All-Star break. is next outing is scheduled for Friday in Miami.

Chad Gaudin quality in no-decision

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(8/6/2013) Giants starter Chad Gaudin was quality on Monday night at home against the Brewers. Unfortunately, so was his opposing starter Tyler Thornburg.

Gaudin settled for a no-decision as each starter left the game with the score tied at one run apiece.

The San Francisco starter gave up just one earned run on four hits and four walks over 6 1/3 innings. His record remains 5-2 on the year with a 2.56 ERA as he struck out eight batters over 95 pitches thrown Monday.

Gaudin has made 10 starts for San Francisco and has been pretty sharp in most of them. He's gone 3-1 over his last five outings and only had one poor outing against the Reds over that span. Gaudin makes his next starting appearance Saturday against Baltimore.

Chad Gaudin gets back on winning side in blowout

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/31/2013) Giants starting pitcher Chad Gaudin bounced back from a poor start Wednesday, as he limited the Phillies to one run in a 9-2 win.

Gaudin allowed one run on four hits in the game, with that lone run coming off a solo home run in the first inning. He tossed six shutout innings to close his outing, finishing with one run in seven innings of work. He walked one batter and struck out five en route to the win, his fifth of the season.

Gaudin is now 5-2 on the season with a 2.64 ERA in 81 2/3 innings of work. He finished the month of July 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA. He will try to keep his winning ways up in his next start, scheduled for Monday against the Brewers.

Bubble will burst for Chad Gaudin

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/24/2013) It's only a matter of time before the bubble bursts for Giants starting pitcher Chad Gaudin. He is 4-0 with a 2.23 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in seven starts this season, which is way better than the .472 winning percentage, 4.50 ERA and 1.49 WHIP Gaudin has posted as a starter in his career.

Gaudin also has a 3.89:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio as a starter, which is a career-best and well above his career average 1.76.

Gaudin is in the midst of a strong run and Fantasy owners should without a doubt capitalize on his performance. But please don't consider Gaudin a long-term fix. He just hasn't proven he can pitch this well over a long period. Let's not forget he could also be a candidate to move back to the bullpen when Ryan Vogelsong is ready to return.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Gaudin surrendered a run-scoring double to Chase Headley in the opening frame for his only blemish of the night. The right-hander permitted a run on three hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings during a 10-1 win.
