Kelly will not take Jackson's spot in the lineup, however. Instead, he will bat eighth Tuesday against the Angels. Andy Dirks will be the team's leadoff hitter for the second straight game. Kelly is hitting .200/.294/.289 in 45 at-bats.
"He’s going to play," Leyland told MLive.com. "I’ll put him in center against a right-hander. I’ll play him in center against left-handers. I don’t know how it’s going to work out. It could be Dirks, it could be Kelly. But I’m not going to move Torii over."
As for the leadoff spot in Jackson's absence, Leyland added Dirks would likely only hit leadoff against right-handed starters.

Kelly is the only other player to start in center field for Detroit this season.
Kelly entered play Monday batting .190 and mired in a 1-for-13 slump in his last seven games.

"I had some other opportunities where they told me that I'd have a good chance to make their ballclub," he said. "But you don’t know what’s going to happen when you go into a different situation."
If Kelly makes the roster, he would be used as a reserve outfielder/infielder. Kelly is batting .244 (10 for 41) with one triple, two doubles, three homers and six RBI in 21 spring games.
