(4/18/2014) Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos will sit Friday against Indians tough sidearming right-hander Justin Masterson. He has been replaced in the lineup by little-used left-handed batter Don Kelly, who has just 12 at-bats this season and will bat sixth against Cleveland.

Castellanos has been in a mini-slump with just one hit in his last 12 at-bats.

Kelly singled and scored in the third and followed with an RBI triple and run scored in the fifth. He added an infield single in the eighth.

(8/10/2013) Tigers outfielder Don Kelly doubled among three hits Saturday during a 9-3 drubbing of the Yankees. Kelly went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs. 

He now has 20 RBI on the season and is batting .247 for the Tigers. The 33-year-old Kelly has two three-hit games in his last five contests with five RBI over that stretch.

(8/6/2013) Tigers outfielder Don Kelly had a big offensive game Tuesday in a win at Cleveland. Kelly provided the biggest spark for the Tigers as he produced a three-run homer off Justin Masterson in the fifth inning.

Kelly finished the game 3 for 4 as he added two singles. He hit his fifth home run of the season and is batting .246 for the Tigers. The 33-year-old Kelly had just three hits in his previous 10 appearances.

Kelly entered in left field for Matt Tuiasosopo, who also homered, is batting .248. He is 5 for 9 in his last four appearances as a reserve.

Kelly hit is third HR of the season with one out in the sixth. He finished 1 for 2 with two walks and is batting .198. 

The 33-year-old has hits in three straight games and four RBI over that span. Still, he's only seen 81 at-bats on the year.

Kelly will not take Jackson's spot in the lineup, however. Instead, he will bat eighth Tuesday against the Angels. Andy Dirks will be the team's leadoff hitter for the second straight game. Kelly is hitting .200/.294/.289 in 45 at-bats.

(5/13/2013) Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Monday that outfielders Don Kelly, Andy Dirks and Avisail Garcia could all see playing time in center field with Austin Jackson on the disabled list. Although, Leyland hinted Garcia could see the majority of starts in center field. 

"He’s going to play," Leyland told MLive.com. "I’ll put him in center against a right-hander. I’ll play him in center against left-handers. I don’t know how it’s going to work out. It could be Dirks, it could be Kelly. But I’m not going to move Torii over."

As for the leadoff spot in Jackson's absence, Leyland added Dirks would likely only hit leadoff against right-handed starters.

(5/13/2013) Tigers outfielder Don Kelly drew the start in center field Monday against the Astros after the team placed starting center fielder Austin Jackson on the disabled list with a pulled hamstring. Kelly is the only other player to start in center field for Detroit this season. 

Kelly entered play Monday batting .190 and mired in a 1-for-13 slump in his last seven games.

(3/25/2013) Tigers outfielder Don Kelly is expected to learn his roster fate this week because of an opt-clause in his contract that forces the Tigers to tell him whether or not he'll be on the 25-man roster, according to MLive.com.

"I had some other opportunities where they told me that I'd have a good chance to make their ballclub," he said. "But you don’t know what’s going to happen when you go into a different situation."

If Kelly makes the roster, he would be used as a reserve outfielder/infielder. Kelly is batting .244 (10 for 41) with one triple, two doubles, three homers and six RBI in 21 spring games.
