Boyer lost his second straight decision and dropped to 2-4 on the year.

(6/18/2015) Twins reliever Blaine Boyer picked up a win after his appearance in the ninth inning of Thursday afternoon's 2-1 victory over the Cardinals. 

Boyer pitched the top half of the ninth inning with the game tied up at 1-1. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter. Boyer got out of the inning without allowing a run. The Twins then got a walk-off homer from Kennys Vargas, which cemented Boyer's win. 

Boyer is now 2-2 this year with a 2.25 ERA.

(6/6/2015) Twins reliever Blaine Boyer gave up a run in 2/3 of an inning to take the loss on Friday, against Milwaukee. 

After retiring the first two batters he faced, striking out one, Boyer gave up a double. He was taken from the game and the bullpen allowed the inherited runner to score, breaking a tie. 

Boyer dropped to 1-2 on the year. 


Twins RP Blaine Boyer notches first save in four years

(5/30/2015) Twins reliever Blaine Boyer picked up his first save of the season, and just the third of his career in Saturday's win over the Blue Jays. Boyer, whose last save came as a member of the Mets in April 2011, pitched a perfect ninth inning to preserve the 3-2 victory on Saturday.

The veteran right-hander has been quite effective out of the Twins bullpen this season, as he currently holds a 2.19 ERA over 24 2/3 innings. 

Regular closer Glen Perkins had worked each of the last three games for the Twins, so manager Paul Molitor likely wanted to give Perkins a day off.


Twins pitcher Blaine Boyer supplants Casey Fien in setup role

(5/27/2015) Twins pitcher Casey Fien won't likely have the same role he had before going on the disabled list, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Reliever Blaine Boyer has supplanted himself in the setup man role, according to manager Paul Molitor.

"I like what Boyer's done," Molitor said. "I think everyone has a lot of confidence when he's in the game late right now. Not to say that can't change.

"I guess if I had to say right now, in the short term, most likely Fien would precede Boyer in a ball game."

Fien is expected to return from the disabled list this week after battling a shoulder injury for the last month. Fien is 1-2 with a 4.35 ERA in 10 1/3 innings of work.


Twins' Molitor has confidence in Blaine Boyer

(5/13/2015) Twins manager Paul Molitor expressed confidence in pitcher Blaine Boyer in late-game situations Wednesday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

"With Casey Fien out, he's the one guy out there I look to late in games from the right-handed side and have a lot of confidence to bring in," Molitor said.

Boyer hasn't allowed a run since April 12 and owns a 2.76 ERA and 7:4 K:BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings.


Twins P Blaine Boyer (15.00 ERA) says he's fixed his problem

(4/17/2015) Twins reliever Blaine Boyer is off to a poor start in 2015 (15.00 ERA in four appearances) but said he's identified the issue and has rectified it, per TwinCities.com.

"It was a timing issue I've been dealing with ever since the season started," Boyer said. "I was taking way too much time to get all my weight to my back leg. Everything was rushing. I had nothing behind the ball."

Boyer hasn't pitched since April 12 when he gave up three runs on four hits to the White Sox without recording an out.

Twins bullpen set after Caleb Thielbar sent down to minors

(4/1/2015) The Twins have optioned left-handed reliever Caleb Thielbar down to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, according to MLB.com.

With Thielbar heading down to the minors to start the season, Minnesota's seven-man bullpen will include Glen Perkins, Casey Fien, Brian Duensing, JR Graham, Blaine Boyer, Mike Pelfrey and Tim Stauffer.


Blaine Boyer informed he made Twins' Opening Day roster

(3/30/2015) The Twins informed pitcher Blaine Boyer that he made the team's Opening Day roster, per MLB.com.

Boyer signed a minor league contract in January that included a non-roster invitation to Twins spring training camp. The team added him to the 40-man roster earlier in the day on Monday. 

"It was a load off my shoulders," Boyer said of making the team. "It was a surreal moment for me. I'm just excited and very thankful to Terry Ryan."

Boyer had a 1.69 ERA in seven games this spring. 


Twins add Blaine Boyer to 40-man roster

(3/30/2015) The Twins added pitcher Blaine Boyer to the 40-man roster Monday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Boyer is set to earn $750,000 after signing a minor-league deal this offseason and can also earn up to $100,000 in bonuses. He has been named as the starting replacement for Kyle Gibson (illness) Monday night against the Red Sox.

General manager Terry Ryan said Monday that Boyer's fastball has sat at 93-to-94 mph this spring, which is up from the 91-to-92 mph the team was expecting.

(3/27/2015) Twins reliever Blaine Boyer, who appears destined for a spot on the Opening Day roster, requested an unscheduled bullpen session on Wednesday to work on his changeup, per the Pioneer Press.

"It went really good," Boyer said.

Boyer, who is in camp on a minor-league deal, has allowed only two runs in 9 2/3 innings of work this spring. He has a March 30 opt-out clause in his contract, and is due to make $750,000 in the majors, with up to an additional $100,000 in performance bonus.


Twins' Blaine Boyer pitches way into contention for spot in bullpen

(3/21/2015) Twins reliever Blaine Boyer, who is in camp on a minor-league deal, has pitched his way into contention for a spot in the team's bullpen, per MLB.com. He has a 2.45 ERA through five relief appearances.

"He's made a nice impression here, there's no denying that," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "He definitely knows how to pitch a little bit. He's had experience. He's focused. He's making a run for it, that's for sure."

One change for Boyer this spring has been the addition of a changeup to his repertoire at the urging of pitching coach Neil Allen. Although, he has yet to use it in a game.

"Neil got me this grip I really like," Boyer said. "I'd love to get a bullpen or two with it. It's a great pitch. It's a really good pitch for me, and so I'm excited to implement that. But it's kind of tough to when you're battling to show what you can do to mess around with a pitch."

Boyer appeared in 32 games last season for the Padres and posted a 3.57 ERA.

(6/15/2014) The Padres placed reliever Nick Vincent on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder fatigue and recalled pitcher Blaine Boyer from Triple-A El Paso. Vincent's move to the DL is retroactive to June 12.

In 27 innings, Vincent is 0-2 with a 5.67 ERA and 32 strikeouts.

Boyer has allowed four runs on six hits over 2 2/3 innings since sustaining the injury. He's posted a 5.91 ERA over 10 2/3 innings this spring.

Boyer sustained the injury when he was hit on the foot by a line drive Sunday. He had tossed seven scoreless innings this spring before giving up three runs in the 10th inning Sunday.

Boyer posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 15 innings with Triple-A Omaha last season.
