(3/19/2007) The Nationals released five non-roster invitees on Monday. Pitchers Colby Lewis and Luis Martinez, INF Jose Macias, INF Jorge Toca and OF Wayne Lydon all were let go.
Womack among Nats' slew of cuts
(3/8/2007) The Nationals gave infielder Tony Womack his unconditional release and reassigned infielders Tony Blanco, Melvin Dorta and Jorge Toca, outfielders Wayne Lydon and George Lombard, and pitchers Felix Diaz, Anastacio Martinez, Eduardo Valdez, Luis Martinez and Bill White to minor league camp. Also, they optioned outfielder Frank Diaz to Triple-A Columbus and left-hander Mike Hinckley to Double-A Harrisburg.
Nats sign 17 to minor deals
(11/7/2006) In addition to four major-league contracts, the Nationals agreed to 17 minor-league deals Monday: Right-handers Jermaine Van Buren, T.J. Nall, Colby Lewis, Felix Diaz, Eduardo Valdez, Josh Hall, Winston Abreu and Jim Magrane; left-handers Mike Bacsik, Billy White and Chris Michalak; catchers Juan Brito and Danny Ardoin; infielders Joe Thurston and Alejandro Machado; and outfielders Darnell McDonald and Wayne Lydon. Thirteen of the 21 free agents are pitchers. "We head the list of teams that need pitching," team president Stan Kasten said last week. Bacsik was 11-0 with a 2.79 ERA in 28 games at Triple-A Tucson. He was with the Nationals at spring training in 2005.
