(1/18/2010) The Boston Red Sox signed the following players to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training: pitchers Jorge Sosa, Fernando Cabrera, Edwin Moreno and Brian Shouse; infielders Angel Sanchez and Gil A. Velazquez; and outfielder Darnell T. McDonald.

L. Rodriguez could be active Friday

(6/12/2009) The Sports Xchange reports that Padres SS Luis Rodriguez likely will be activated from the disabled list before Friday's game with either RP Wade LeBlanc or RP Edwin Moreno being sent back to Triple-A Portland. The pitchers were promoted Monday after the Padres' bullpen was ravaged in an 18-inning loss to Arizona on Sunday. LeBlanc has not appeared in a game since being called up.

Padres make bullpen changes

(6/8/2009) The Padres added some bullpen help on Monday, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune, as they added relievers Edwin Moreno and Wade LeBlanc from Triple-A Portland. In corresponding roster moves, San Diego placed Luis M. Perdomo on the 15-day DL and sent pitcher Joe Thatcher back to Portland.

Moreno optioned down to minors

(5/15/2009) The Padres recalled lefty Joe Thatcher and purchased the contract of right-hander Greg Burke from Triple-A Portland Friday, and optioned righty Edwin Moreno to Portland.

Moreno hung with third loss

(5/5/2009) Edwin Moreno (1-3) allowed a leadoff double Monday to Todd Helton in the Colorado seventh before walking Garrett Atkins. Brad Hawpe flied out but Troy Tulowitzki walked to load the bases. Cla Meredith replaced Moreno and grooved a 2-2 pitch that Chris Iannetta hit for his fifth home run. "I knew I hit it well," Iannetta said. "I knew at the very least it was going to be a sacrifice [fly]."

Moreno blows it in rare save chance

(4/20/2009) Ryan Howard started Philadelphia's winning rally with a leadoff single against Edwin Moreno, and Raul Ibanez followed by hitting a 2-0 pitch into the right-field stands Sunday. "It was a changeup," said Ibanez, who signed a free-agent deal with the Phillies in the offseason. "I thought it was out off the bat but I was worried it wouldn't stay straight and fair. I'm just glad it did." Padres manager Bud Black had to use Moreno (0-1) in the ninth because closer Heath Bell had worked three consecutive days. Moreno had not allowed an earned run in his first six appearances this season. "A couple of late homers in the game hurt us," Black said. Ibanez, who has four career game-ending homers, went 2-for-4. Clay Condrey (2-0) pitched a scoreless inning to earn the win as Philadelphia ended a three-game skid. "I got behind in the count and he got a good pitch to hit," Moreno said. "He's a good hitter and it happens."

Moreno makes Padres' 25-man roster

(4/5/2009) Padres RP Edwin Moreno made the 25-man roster out of spring training, reports MLB.com on Sunday.

(3/24/2009) From the The Sports Xchange: RHPs Heath Bell and Cla Meredith are the only two relievers who have clinched spots in the seven-man bullpen with just over two weeks remaining in spring training.
