Marlins make some minor cuts


(3/18/2007) The Marlins reassigned LHP Chris George, RHP Eddie Rodriguez, 3B Scott Seabol to minor-league camp; Also, they optioned RHP Jesus Delgado, RHP Harvey Garcia, RHP Scott Tyler to Double-A Carolina and outrighted 1B Jason Stokes to Triple-A Albuquerque.

(1/4/2007) The Marlins agreed to terms and offered spring training invitations to 3B Joe Dillon, 1B/OF John Gall, SS Zach Sorensen, 3B Jason Wood, 3B/1B Scott Seabol, OF Alex Sanchez, C Chris Ashby, C Paul Hoover, OF Nick Trzesniak, RHP Roy Corcoran, RHP Nate Field, RHP Lee Gardner, RHP Mike Koplove, RHP Wes Obermueller, RHP Eddy Rodriguez, RHP Jimmy Serrano and LHP Chris George. (8/2/2006) The Orioles again opened the revolving door to their bullpen, calling up longtime minor leaguer Winston Abreu from Triple-A Ottawa and sending right-hander Eddy Rodriguez to the same club. Abreu becomes the 17th player to join the Baltimore bullpen this season.

(7/31/2006) The Baltimore Orioles shuffled their bullpen staff Sunday, activating left-hander Tim Byrdak from the 60-day disabled list and recalling Eddy Rodriguez from Triple-A Ottawa after placing LaTroy Hawkins on the bereavement list. Byrdak has been on the disabled list since April 19. The left-hander underwent surgery on April 21 to remove bone chips from his left elbow. He appeared in five games on a minor league rehab assignment, going 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA since July 17 with Class-A Aberdeen, Class-A Frederick and Double-A Bowie. "I still have a little bit of inflammation in there," Byrdak said. "The last two times I went out, that's when I got over the hump, so to speak, and had no problems whatsoever."

Orioles recall Rodriguez


(7/30/2006) The Baltimore Orioles shuffled their bullpen staff Sunday, activating left-hander Tim Byrdak from the 60-day disabled list and recalling Eddy Rodriguez from Triple-A Ottawa after placing LaTroy Hawkins on the bereavement list. Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Ottawa after Friday's game to make room for Johnson on the 25-man roster. By rule, he had to stay in the minors for 10 days - except if needed to replace an injured player or one on bereavement leave. Rodriguez was with Ottawa in Scranton, Pa., when he got the news Saturday night that he'd be coming back. The right-hander drove to Baltimore after the game and arrived around 3 a.m. Sunday. "I'm ready," he said before Sunday's game. "I'm not tired. I'll tough it out."

(4/20/2006) MLB.com reports Eddy Rodriguez will be utilized in middle relief and mopup duty for the Baltimore Orioles. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since the 2004 season. "In 2004, I didn't throw the change a lot. Now, instead of throwing two pitches, I'm throwing three," he said. "Fastball, slider, changeup. If they saw me in 2004, they don't know I have [the change]. It's better for me."
