Bennett last pitched in the majors in 2008, when he went 3-7 with a 3.70 ERA with the Braves.

Bennett struggles in return

(9/28/2009) From The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Jeff Bennett's first appearance since Sept. 7 didn't go well Saturday, as he faced seven hitters, allowing five hits and two walks in the middle of the Rangers' two-out 11-run rally. "Oh yeah, you sat for 19 days and don't see a hitter, it's tough," Bennett said. "That's no excuse. The pitches that were hit were in good spots. (The Rangers) were just hot tonight."

Rays' Bennett to be called up

(8/31/2009) Rays manager Joe Maddon said Monday that catcher Shawn Riggans, outfielder Fernando Perez and pitcher Jeff Bennett will join the club before it begins the three-game series against the Red Sox.

Bennett released by the Braves

(7/30/2009) The Braves have released right-hander Jeff Bennett. A team spokesman said Bennett asked for and was granted his released from the team Thursday, making him a free agent. Bennett broke a bone in his left hand in June when he angrily punched a door in frustration during a loss against the Yankees. He was completing a rehab assignment in the minors, while the team was playing against the Marlins in Miami.

Bennett begins rehab assignment

(7/27/2009) From The Sports Xchange: RHP Jeff Bennett (broken left hand), who went on the 15-day DL on June 25, began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Bennett on DL with broken hand

(6/25/2009) Braves right-hander Jeff Bennett has been placed on the 15-day disabled list a day after breaking his left hand when he punched a door in frustration. Bennett on Thursday said he was angry after allowing inherited runners to score on Alex Rodriguez's two-run single in Atlanta's 8-4 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday night. After the injury, Bennett said he popped a bone into place in his left hand, allowing him to pitch the seventh, but Nick Swisher led off the inning with a homer to give New York a 4-1 lead. The Braves called up Boone Logan from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Bennett's place on the roster.

Bennett making some adjustments

(6/3/2009) From The Sports Xchange: RHP Jeff Bennett is throwing his two-seamer only after intensive work with pitching coach Roger McDowell. That pitch sinks, unlike the four-seamer he has tended to fall back on when he's in a jam. The four-seamer gets wild, and manager Bobby Cox let Bennett know that if he wants to stay at this level, he has to drop the four-seamer.

Reyes is Braves' No. 5 SP of choice

(8/18/2008) The Braves apparently will recalled pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes for their vacant rotation spot Tuesday. Chuck James and relievers Jeff Bennett and Buddy Carlyle have been passed up for the spot.

Bennett part of closer committee

(6/15/2008) Rafael Soriano was placed back on the 15-day DL on Saturday, retroactive to June 6. Soriano, who signed a two-year, $9 million contract in January, came off the DL on May 28 and made only five appearances after being sidelined for six weeks because of a sore right elbow. With Soriano officially out of the mix again, manager Bobby Cox says he will continue to use a closer-by-committee approach that allowed Jeff Bennett to notch his first career save on Friday night.

Bennett records second save

(6/14/2008) Braves RP Jeff Bennett pitched a scoreless ninth inning during Friday's 5-2 win against the Angels for his second save. Bennett allowed two singles, but worked out of trouble and even got a strikeout. His first save was May 6 against the Padres.

Bennett blasted in spot start

(6/11/2008) Atlanta SP Jeff Bennett made an emergency start Wednesday after Jair Jurrjens twisted his ankle on the steps leading from the Braves clubhouse after Tuesday night's loss. Normally a reliever, it was Bennett's fourth start of the season and first in seven weeks. It didn't go well against the Cubs. He gave up seven hits and seven earned runs in two-plus innings, leaving to boos when he was driven out in the third, mainly because he'd hit Alfonso Soriano.

Bennett to take Jurrjens' start Wednesday

(6/11/2008) Braves RP/SP Jeff Bennett will start in place of Jair Jurrjens against the Cubs on Wednesday after Jurrjens was scratched with a sprained ankle he sustained on the duguout steps Tuesday.

(5/26/2008) The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Braves manager Bobby Cox said it's too early to know if Jorge Campillo's finger blisters will keep him from his next scheduled start Thursday at Milwaukee. If Campillo isn't ready, Cox said Triple-A Richmond prospect Charlie Morton and RP Jeff Bennett are options.
